@@yibbo0 when I said the government I didn’t mean it was directly the government. By the government I meant that the council have to obey by the government that’s over agriculture like the department of agriculture. Sure the council is below the government that’s for sure but they have to obey by whatever rules the government have set in place and make sure that people comply with them. Some rules are important but some rules from the government/council are stupid. It’s just annoying because a lot of rules are not clear to a lot of farmers and farmers only know about them when the council/department of agriculture send out letters informing people that they have breached rules/regulations.

Farming is crazy. Jeremy was used to "I'm going to drive this car from point X to Y", the only thing he had to basically care about was if he had the correct driving licence, visa and passport. The laws and regulations he had to pay attention to could be placed on a small pamphlet with pictures. The laws around farming and foodstuffs is a bible by comparison.

That part almost made me cry. A whole field just "dead"... Imagine if you spend all that time with preparing the field, plowing, planting, the money to buy seed and fertilizer, everything just to hear "Sorry, the field is dead..." All of that time and money WASTED, down the drain. You would have actually, literally and unironically been better off economically if you had spent all that time just sitting on your ass and drinking beer.

It’s a shame they never go into *why* the rules exist. In this case it’s because the pesticide they talked about was found to also kill off the bee population. Without bees, whole swaths of agriculture become unviable. The rule may have been punishing to Clarkson in this case, but it’s there to protect all farms and farmers from a much biggest cost than a single failed field.

It takes at least half a stick of dynamite minimum to get it to go but preferably 2 sticks I think. My uncle was in mining in another state then got an explosives license later. The thing is, hay CAN EASILY spontaneous combust particularly if it hasn't completely dried yet. And you wouldn't want to be burning chemical fertiliser. Probably a bit toxic.

I've worked out why farmers are being given such a hard time by governments, their officials and local councils world wide. They've been lobbied by some very rich, influential people who have decided that if they can stop farming, buy up the land & build on it they'll make tons of money and become even richer. Governments go along with them because politicians are mainly rich people anyway and can't stand ordinary people anyway. The short sightedness of this is astounding. We need to support our farmers across the world. If they go so will we. Governments already have the opinion we're only good for making things that make their lives comfortable. They'll think up an excuse for war to cull numbers so a few million people dying from starvation won't bother them. We need to fight back and support our farmers. Go Jeremy

Most agricultural fertilizer contains high amounts of ammonium nitrate - AKA the stuff that caused the 2020 Beirut port explosion. So the EU are strict as fuck when it comes to storing it. If stored near hay, which releases gas as it decomposes, it can literally spontaneously combust if that gas mixes with it.

I suspect it's the other way around. Don't store it near combusrable materials since fertilizer fires are extremely dangerous. Couple years back you had the Beirut harbor explosion as an example of it.

It's the other way around, hay can catch fire SUPER easily, and fertilisers are basically explosives if you light them on fire.

It’s a good rule, stops farmers sterilising the countryside. Intensive farming is incredibly destructive to wildlife. It’s been unchecked for so long, big efforts are now being made to not kill all the wildlife. It’s not a hard concept to grasp🙄

Yer the dumb one for failing to see why it's bad spraying the soil and plants with hazardous chemicals. There are ways to combat flea beetles without endangering nature and humanity, some farmers are just too greedy, lazy or dumb to implement those.
