“Not enough companies are taking risks” That hit such a spot for me. I’m indifferent about MGK. I’m neither here nor there. I could care less about his reason for why he wanted it to be a razor blade. I’m indifferent towards his signature. But the only thing that’s impressive is like you said. This gives me nostalgia to Guitar Hero and grinding away for hours to unlock the next guitar. And that makes me so happy that a company was willing to go out of their way. And I’m sure their people who made these guitars appreciated doing something way out of left field.

@@Liminal.Headspacefalse. Most of the hate is by the shape of the guitar. MGK name on it just amplifies the hate. If it were to be promoted under dimebags name, it would have gotten even more hate because 1. He never played nor would he ever want to own something like this. 2. It would be a cash grab especially since it would be after his death 3. The price and specs wouldn't be what Dimebag would have oreferred Fans would enrage over this. Look at what happened to Doyle and Kerry King when they released their newest signature guitars. They received so much hate to the point where it became laughable. @@Liminal.Headspace Have you played one? I am curious because I haven't had an opportunity to. Generally Schecter (now and for the past 15 years or so) makes high quality mass manufactured instruments. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a well constructed guitar with decent hardware.
The worst sub-sect of guitar bros are the ones saying that this guitar somehow encourages “self harm”.

Because in sad boi music culture, which is what MGK milks, the straight razor represents exactly that. Hopefully you don’t ever have some in your life who used do things like cut themselves with these or burn themselves with cigarettes as a cry for help that no one paid attention to before they deleted themselves. The only issue I have with this guitar is that they missed a serious opportunity. Why is the razor blade guitar so THICK? Keep the silhouette, but it should've had the profile of an Ibanez S series. Instead, it's shaped like Mjolnir.

Exactly, if Schecter had released this with a Judas Priest British Steel graphic on it, and dual humbuckers, it'd have been an instant hit. The way the guitar bros are reacting to this guitar, you'd think that Schecter and MGK are Breaking The Law.

Good on you fluff for making this video and speaking your mind.
Kudos for you having the balls to actually try one before having an opinion on it and calling out the guitar bro's for being what they are. \m/
Glad to hear that it is pretty comfortable to play! I wasn't sure due to the boxy shape. Either way I've always loved my Schecter Guitars that I've played. Good for them on a successful collaboration!
If the black parts were hollowed out or cut all the way through so it looked more realistic, I think I would like it.

Thank you for highlighting so many different styles of gear. Appreciate ya fluff!
Appreciate you, thanks for speaking on “guitar bro’s.” As I hate the guitar aesthetically, but like you said: I’m glad a company is taking risks, there would be little fuss is Dime/Priest did something like this, and MGK did put out a killer pop/punk album (as much as I personally dislike it). Just baffles me how one can’t just let others like something even if they don’t.

I half agree with you. The guitar bros do hate it because of its association. The kicker is whoever was the marketing manager at Schecter should either be fired or demoted for this. MGK shouldn’t have a second signature guitar despite how much anyone likes or dislikes him. The first ones are on clearance all over guitar shops. This isn’t selling fast either. They should have found a different way to market these like you said. Guitar bros would have had this on a 12 month backlog if it was associated with anyone else.

It's for pop punk to be fair. They don't do a lot of shredding. Not that they need to though. Lots of amazing songs have no solo, but I'm just saying it's not really what this guitar is for. Just like I wouldn't criticize classical guitarists for not shredding the high frets and using guitars that join at the 12th fret with no cutaway. Even if they do have a cutaway, most classical guitars only have like 18 frets anyway lol.

Excellent video! People get a bit carried away sometimes, moving from legitimate factual (or understandable, opinion-based) criticism to an indictment of other peoples' opinions and personal worth. In terms of what causes this, obviously maturity level plays a large part. So, it's understandable that some folks haven't grown to the point that their perspective shifts to account for the possibility that other people have legitimate thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately, a big part the problem at all ages starts when people get too deep into fandom or liking something. It starts to become part of their identity. Then, anything that threatens that identity, in reality or just in their heads, is actually threatening to them, potentially invalidating them as a person. Fight or flight response is engaged instead of the part of your brain needed for critical-thinking, and a good, respectful conversation.
I havent actually seen anyone bothered by the guitar. I have only seen people saying other people are bothered by it
Somebody telling Fluff to unalive himself had my jaw dropped
You nailed it start to finish.
Never mind that, what was that amp?
This guitar screams Affliction shirts, Diesel pants and hats. Woot woot
Finally, someone who thinks it's a cool looking fun guitar. I like it. I don't care for the artist, but my feelings don't get all butt hurt very easily over who it's from or because it's not a boring traditional shape guitar like so many self-righteous guitar players complain about. Right On Fluff.
Even though I am not a MGK fan or really into his signature stuff, you made a cool point about the idea if this was a DimeBag Darrel Guitar, so many people would be all about it, and I could see it having a Seymour Duncan DBD set in it with a Floyd Rose system, it would be a cool tribute guitar in all actuality, it's not my thing, but I really like that you honestly do the review and don't just hate on it right off the bat, like some people have been.
I love schecter. I own a C1 Plus FR in VIntage Sunburst that I bought new in October of 2002, which is apparently rare, and still looks brand new and has never given me one single issue. I think this guitar is fun and unique. And it did sound good so I see no problem with it.

Personally not a fan, but each to their own. Regarding the "guitar bros" yeah, you nailed it. Thanks Fluff!
Coming soon: Rusty, dull "Relic'd" version, only $1,999.00
Thank you! My bassist and I have been butting heads over this thing. Neither of us like MGK at all, but I'm a believer that guitars should be purely a personal style matter. He's a firm traditionalist who is even off put by a flying V
Great review fluff, well said.
This gives me the same vibes as seeing a Majesty, like “yeah that’s what I’d play if I was that guy in that band”. Props to Schecter for making the specs look nice, and at least making it functional, even if it’s not what I’d play.
I bet this would be the first option to any one in a future Guitar Hero game! Simply perfect!
What does the pickup selector do? There's only one pickup.
Personal opinion, as an European viewer: I agree with you that its shape being liked to a metal artist or band wouldn't raise half the fuzz (or rather none) in the metal community. I know nothing about MGK and I don't care who gets a signature or not tbh. In the end companies need to make money and if Schecter thinks they sell more of these than say if they picked one of an artist you think is most criminally underrated, it is their decision to make not your or mine. So its being a MGK sign is neither a pro (collectors incentive), nor a con (OMG, why MGK again) to me. I wouldn't buy it personally, but that's simply because at that price point I want more than a single company-brand pick-up. Esp. not one where the access to the lower 5 frets looks awkward thanks to the shaping of the body-neck joint. For the same price at Schecter I could get something with like Fishman or EMG pickups or a combination of Fishman+Sustaniac and stainless frets, not mentioning better accessibility. Now if I where in some kind Judas Priest tribute band only playing the rhythm parts and had the money to spare, I maybe would buy it for the giggles.
i love this guitar so much! its a crazy idea and im here for it!
Thank you for this
Love you for keeping it real fluff. Humble the guitar bros 💕
Thank you for the honest review and doing our man Kells a solid; speaking on the toxic guitar bros.
Is it really worth the $1500 they're selling it for though? I just think you'll get better bang for your buck with a Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid in the UV paint job... and have an extra couple hundred bucks in your back pocket to boot.
It seems such a cool guitar! Great review
Love your take, Fluff. Couldn't agree more.
Everyone of these on reverb right now can be on Ridiculous Reverb Listings
Fluff I love that shirt! Where did you get it?
Let it be fun. Let people have fun. A lot of people take things far to seriously. It's goofy, and it's something different. Not my thing, but I can appreciate what it's going for. If it sounds good, and plays well, then it is a good guitar. It's really that simple. There's a reason 80's metal hit a chord with the mainstream so hard and for so long. It was FUN, it was GOOFY, it was ENTERTAINING, it was DIFFERENT. This guitar is not meant to be taken seriously, so don't.

I was surprised you played in sitting down, i figured the shape would be kind of exclusively a standing guitar
Idk why everyone is freaking out. When i first saw it i was like "ew thats ugly" then moved on with my life
How much you gonna sell it for?
Personally, even if it was associated with Dime, my feelings would be the same. This thing looks more like a novelty piece than a comfortably playable guitar. The price point that it’s at is absurd as well. Based upon the specs, it’s about the same as a single humbucker C6… which is literally a 5th of the price.
I’m glad you brought up the Bo guitar!
I just see it and think "British steel" Judas priest album cover wall display....but not way in hell I'd play it 🤣

Sounds fine to me - Not sure about access to the frets above 18 though. I can live with the looks - going to have to see what MGK has actually put out now
i like them. i think of them as bad ass bo diddley looking.
100% agreed with the British Steel comments. Not even a fraction of the same number of people would be complaining if this was a Glenn Tipton sitnature or something.
Dude you described this guitar exactly what i was thinking when first seeing it i immediately didn't even associate with mgk i honestly thought it was a refrence to British Steel By Judas Priest. Subbed
i personally really dont like this for myself or as a production model, but tbf i think its a great signature guitar, itll never be confused with anyone elses
I haven't watched this video yet - just wanted to say that I hope your medical procedure you briefly mentioned a bit ago is going well and you are recovering well. I have no idea on any of the details but just wanted you to know some of your viewers were concerned and thinking of you!
I'm not a fan of mgk at all, and I think the guitar is really ugly, but you're 10,000% correct. I brought up Dimebag when the controversy started as well. They even had his razorblade necklace on some of his guitars iirc. I don't see any reason whatsoever for this to be controversial, even if I personally don't like it. The fact that people are in an uproar over the least important thing ever (the shape of a guitar) is absurd to me. You're also totally right that I could ABSOLUTELY see someone in like Judas Priest playing this. If someone like that were playing it, the guitar bros would be praising it immediately.
Fluff, you hit the nail on the head here, we are guitarist always want to be on the cutting edge of new music, playing with 1950's equipment.(Because it's better man.........all the sales guy say so) I remember working at G&L in the 1980 when Leo, talking to all the "Hair Metal player" on the early 80's and crafting what he thought would be the perfect Guitar The G&L Interceptor. It was a real hot rod of the guitar, it played fast a smooth and was very comfortable......and we could not give them away. Simply put, it look weird and it wasn't a Telly, a Strat or a Les Paul, so it had to be bad. Leo took a ton of criticism....all from players for which the guitar was not intended for, sad.
I don't like MGK too, but I can't argue that this is a cool guitar and fresh idea, having in mind we are seeing mostly superstrat copies from most companies today... and considering, this is Schecter, I have no doubts it's great quality! I totally agree with Fluff! 🍻
thats my issue with it its dimes emblem its on the 12th fret of all his guitars its also emblem for Dime Guitarz
Thank You for the Gene Simmons Axe bass reference! That’s what I thought of when I first saw the MGK Razor Blade.
It's silly and if it was priced around $600 I would pick it up just for fun. At $1,500 I'm not sure who it's aimed at. I don't see many kids saving up for this, but I might be wrong. Maybe it'll be pretty reasonable on the used market in the next few years.

So, being another guitar/music centric rando, first impression of the guitar (haven't seen it or even heard of it until this video): Overall opinion will weigh out depending on how much this thing is, but, of course it's a razor blade. How Edgy. Seems to be on the smaller side, only 22 frets. Nice for beginners or minimalist playing, ease of access, all that jazz. Always loved that. Actually kind of looks like the designer(s) took inspiration from Gretch's Billy Bo, or just a cigar box guitar, which is interesting. One humbucker, one knob, makes life easy, even can have more fun... why is there a pick up selector though? (starts watching video) I was a slight model off, but I see you also thought of the same guitar! How cool. Totally forgot about the Gene Simmons axe though, which in marketing sensibilities, this razor guitar is totally going for that, which is cool. It definitely sounds and looks fun to play. Totally fits the pop punk vibe, and aesthetic is important in that world to a great extent, which to your observation, can anger some guitar bros for sure. Only when it doesn't fit their aesthetic, I guess. I'm not a fan of MGK, but I'm not about to get in the way of a dude simply expressing his own thoughts and creation with a reputable guitar company to, as you said, just make something fun. The hypothetical Dimebag comparison is a great retort for the naysayers. End of the day though, I have a tele style 2 humbucker from Schecter Research that cost about $500 less, that is killer. So, pretty pricy in mind for all that it is. But I wouldn't look down on anyone bringing this out to a gig. ... Not gonna lie, looks more and more slick the more and more I look at it. Telecasters be damned.
Sort of reminds me of something the misfits would have used, especially when the mix started up sounding vaguely of last caress pop punked up
Schecter and MGK just pulled a ChibsonUSA on us. They definitely achieved to get a shit ton of attention their names and brand, one massive marketing gimmick.
Not a fan but not a hater of MGK. For all the haters everytime you talk trash about him just remember this; He's worth around 25 million dollars.
Good points with the Dimebag/ British Steel comparison.
3:57 that so true
No different than the Gene Simmons axe bass. And yes you are correct. If it were a Dime Razor dudes would be selling on reverb immediately saying “one of a kind” or “it’s dimes legacy” 😂😂😂😂 you do you Fluff. You out here taking the hits for all of us, you the real MVP.
You actually made my brain do that thinking stuff when you mentioned Dime and Judas Priest , and if it was one of their guitars. Damn it. I still don't like the guitars looks, but you made a great point and it made me think. I do realize I judged the guitar by the artist. Yes, I think it's ugly as sin, but Im judging it now by my taste. I pretty much like superstrats and jazz master shapes. I don't go for much more.

Fair play Fluff. I have always respected you for your honest opinion, even if it goes against the mainstream. Dimebag is one of my favourite guitarists and Priest are one of my favourite bands and I still would go nowhere near this guitar. As box guitar shapes never appealed to me in general. Also MGK is a trash person from all accounts so I don't know if this sort of behaviour should be rewarded. That and he was dumb enough to try to step to Eminem, who then did what Eminem does best. EDIT: Also, I think Schecter either way have done some good by doing this. It's got the most people talking about this guitar that I have heard about in years...although I wish it were over the John Browne signature! No hatred or disrespect for you Fluff at all. Just don't think this will swing many people towards it.
will you be reviewing the Justin Beck guitar and bass too?
My immediate thought upon seeing the thumbnail was: "This is just an "edgy", (pun intended?), version of Bo Diddley's guitar." I'm glad you mentioned Bo Diddley at the start, original box guitar. This razor guitar sounds good, but idk if i'd be spending close to 1700-1800 (Being in Canada), for one. But heck, more power to the company doing something bold.
