I'm just glad to see that you have the ability to request hardware and that vendors know they're in the best of hands! This is my next PSU that I never knew existed....
@ManomiiFox
Жыл бұрын
its 760$ CAD, about 570 USD...
One of those went through my hands recently at work, unfortunately I don't get to obsess over and play with all the cool hardware I work with on a daily basis.
i bought a threadripper 1950X for 250$, fsp (used) (500W) for 275$, a mobo for 350$, and 128GB of ram 750$ a year and a half ago and im happy with the server it made, i put it in a chenbro 42300
This makes me salivate... I've wanted a redundant ATX-compatible PSU for probably a decade now, but they have never been within my price range for the wattage I need.
Unfortunately the proprietary software that you need to monitor the PSU status (i.e. if a PSU dies) only runs on Windows. I couldn’t find any mention online if anyone found a way to make this work in Linux (i.e. a community-supported driver / package) but the FSP website definitely mentions it requires Windows to use. This would be a great product, and a product I would buy yesterday if they provided SMBUS/PMBUS monitoring or at least some sort of way to make the USB monitoring work in Linux. As it stands, GKH won’t be able to tell if a PSU dies unless he’s physically there and can see the fault LED.
@2:07 So that's what these are! I got some of these as part of a set of cable management ties but I had no idea what they were called or how to use them.
I think you mean to say it's 170mm long (maybe?) and not "700mm long"... 700mm is more than 27.5 inches.
It would be awesome if this was fully modular as well.

Literally ordered one of these Monday
Thanks for covering this Wendell, I had been wanting to grab one of these for my server rig but with the cost so high, I have been on the fence about this PSU.

$679? Ouch! (It'd be nice for anything running as a server, of course, ....as long as someone else is paying for it....!)
I was interested in the previous iteration until I found that it was low wattage & not modular cables. I found my Next PSU, Thank you for this Review!
I'm surprised that normal power cables don't come with those sorts of power supply connectors...my standing desk setup could really use a similar solution. _engagement_
I was kind of hoping you'd do a section on how loud it was
BUUUT how loud is it? I dont remember you talking about that. I was thinking of getting one but because it might be too loud l didnt bother looking into it too much.
i've been looking at these, wish they made a 1200 watt version
Yes please.
These Twins psu's are insanely cool
Good stuff.
But the real question: Does this FSP software work on Linux?
wow, this is perfect for rtx 4090 ti /s Awesome video!
I wonder if these power supplies are loud? Also, important topic to discuss is power supply efficiency. Especially with rising energy prices and climate change.
@Level1Techs
2 жыл бұрын
Not super loud. Efficiency is complex as 240v is often more efficient. The gkh vid has some sample audio
Do the swappable power supplies use a standardized form factor? Do other manufacturers make them?
Those 2 giant Artic coolers looks good but, one sends the heat to the other...
FSP/Fortron is one of the OG and best PSU manufacturers. I'm surprised how many people don't know them - they are well known in Europe.

You don't see FSP on the shelves as a brand you can just buy at your local store or onlien retailer, its like Clevo for laptops. They exist, but they aren't visible.

@@MrMatapatapa FSP mostly designs/builds power supplies on behalf of other companies like Gigabyte, Cooler Master, Corsair, etc. They don't output quite as much with their own label.
Why is kernel compilation your stress/burn-in operation of choice?
Just started playing with the 700 W version of the FSP Twins Pro and Jesus Christ, the noise is unpleasant - its two small fans sound like a few enterprise 7,200 RPM HDDs. Yes, no comparison to “regular” loud-AF server PSUs but nothing you’d want near to where you’re personally sitting. Good thing: The outer PSU shell has a pretty open mesh on the inside, so maybe you can force air from an external larger fan through it with a modded fan duct so you can remove the two loud 40 mm fans. With the monitoring software and built-in Over-Temperature Protection this mod should be relatively safe.
I want one. I don't have any use for one as of yet, but I want one
Could FSP make a version of this with power supply on one side and backup battery in the other? Then I wouldn't need a bulky ups!
Although rock solid stable for over 18 months, I observe VERY unbalanced load distribution when using both power supplies together
"... computer janitor with the best of them..." But YOU are the best. PARADOX ENGAGE!
Does the Guardian software function on Linux?
Standard 700mm length? I’m assuming what was meant to be said was 170mm length? 🤔
i have to say its super annoying that this is the video about the power supply but i have to go to the other video to find out how noisy it is
Interasting times :)
At risk of asking "dumb" questions: Wat limits the cpu connectors to 400watt.. is it the connector or the cables?

An EPS connector has 4x 12V wires, according to some spec sheets, they can do usually 384W per connector or 96W or 8A at 12V per wire pair (12V + ground). Now, some PSU with thicker wiring and motherboards with solid pin connectors say they will do 10-12A per pair, or well, 480W-576W per 8 pin EPS connector. Me being the noob l am, l dont trust it. Stuff degrades over time and l would rather have 2x connectors than 1x thats running near its limit

Ordered the Twins Pro 700 W variant for a SilverStone Grandia GD07 case, looking forward to that increased peace of mind due to redundancy :)
FSP why no 5pin PMBus connection to the motherboard?! No PSU information to IMPI or the hypervisor on a server board. Even the industrial non painted version of this PSU has a USB only interface for management. I ordered one regardless I'm also surprised it's not at least Platinum rated just hope it's quiet and powers my Gigabyte MZ72-HB0 v4 motherboard without issue.
Oddly, FSP does not even have this on their website....at least, not that I can find....
