That may be my favorite intro of all time LOL. Picked one of these up too. Super cool piece of history, and great camera!

Thanks for your videos and website Richard, you are great! The "N" designates the camera as having a center-weighted metering system. The Nikkormat FT (and Nikon, Photomic T) use averaging metering.

Nice collection Richard, I guess you will do some service on those old cameras, it's great fun to do. And of course use a lot's of lighter fluid and thin sewing machine oil, and then those old camera's are back to life again :-). Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you and your family. Best regard from Kenneth

Nikkormats from 'back in the day' largely lived in the shadow of the high end Nikon cameras (F, F2) but they are solid competent basic photo takers and were built to last.

My FtN and FT2 just stop working off late. Shutters aren't cocked correctly so they sometimes refuse to fire. The FtN was in repair for it, but that didn't help.

I just got a FT and a 50mm lens last night and I love it. It’s a bit quirky because it’s different, but I think it’s a great camera.

Thanks for the video! Is that really fungus inside the camera back, or just residue from decomposed light seals?

Thanks for the video! My FT2 is having issues with focusing. The camera looks like it's in focus but when I get the film back the pictures are way off. The only pictures that are in focus are the ones that are stopped all the way down. The other ones are in focus but on the wrong part of the subject. Do you think that is the fault of the lens (Nikkor 50mm F2) or the focusing screen?

I have an issue with my Nikkormat FT2: the meter coupling mechanism sometimes 'locks up' such that I can't rotate the aperture ring on the lens. First time it happened I had to remove the front cover on the prism housing and manually 'unlock' the coupling mechanism so I could even remove the lens from the camera. Happened again yesterday..and I use only Nikon pre-AI lenses on my Nikkormat FT2. Ever run into that and any insights on this issue?

Just picked up an FTN - the light meter gives faulty readings. Everything is correctly exposed in the meter when I use fast shutter speeds in low light, it is as if the meter is operating backwards. Any idea on how to repair this? Thank you,

Hi Richard. First thx a lot for your site. All this work on nikkor lenses is incredibly valuable and all Nikon passionates as I am are thanking you for this. I got a question on Nikkormats compatibility : I got a FTn perfectly functional and an FT2 with a non working meter. Is it possible to exchange the meter from the FTn to the FT2 or is it a too risky operation or it simply won t work ? I understand for instance that voltage are not the same... I am quite skilled with my hand ( I did a lot of modelism) and regularly works on my lenses ( cleaning them and greasing the hélicoïd if needed on eBay old lenses) but I prefer to ask to you first. Thx for your answer

I have both an FT-N and FT-2. The FT-N requires the mercury battery where the FT-2 does not, however that small voltage difference does not seem to make a whole lot of difference in the metering between the two cameras (unless the previous owner had the FT-N altered at some point). I am amazed at how little these go for nowadays when Pentax K1000 and Canon AE-1 cameras continue to climb in price. The K1000 is a fantastic camera, but I consider the Nikkormat a much better camera and definitely better than the AE-1. That said Nikon FM and FE models are not selling for much either. Maybe Nikon made them too well and supply over demand.

I have an all black Nikkormat ft2 with an early Nikkor s-c f1.4 lens and a 105mm f2.5 ai lens. Best camera ever. You turn the battery cover a half turn to the right with a coin just for your information. I use LR44 batteries. You need some sleep my friend.
