Thanks for a great video. I had one from June 1972 until sometime in 1979 or 1980 when it was stolen from under a seat in a locked car when the stereo system was stolen. Due to financial considerations, I went with various models of Pentax, which I had for several year until I bought my first digital camera. I always missed the Nikkormat: yesterday I found one on Ebay in very good condition that has been professionally refurbished and has a warranty. I can hardly wait until it arrives later this week and I can put your video to good use.

@@jamesmorrell2901 Thank you. About 20 years ago I had some equipment stolen out of the trunk of my car. It was an awful feeling when I opened the trunk to find the equipment gone.
thank you i had one as a kid in high school and just starting to us it again

I first got an FTN in 1972. Does your meter still work? Thanks for watching.
thanks Jules for the wonderful walk down memory lane! I purchased a new FTN in the mid 70's while in high school and taking a photography class. I wanted an F body at the time but couldn't afford it with the proceeds from lawn mowing and dish washing :) It was a good for a first camera and I still have the same model, along with other classic Nikons. I'm enjoying all your videos!!
Helpful video! I just snagged this camera at a thrift shop with the 50mm F1.4 for $60. Seems clean and lovingly maintained over the years. Nice build quality and feel.
Super helpful! I've been shooting my grandmother's old FTN for about a year and didn't know about some of the accessories mentioned. Very informative. Thank you!
Thank you for the video. The Nikkormat FTN is my go to camera. It's just a well made camera. I know the camera is heavy, but if you want to start to shoot film and to learn how photography works, this is the camera you need. Ok, I have now put the price up.
Another one of Nikon's 'old school' mechanical 35mm film SLR's: wonderfully built solid 'tank' cameras. I picked up a Nikkormat FT2 not too long ago for the princely sum of $40.00 then I got a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/2 lens for it makes for a real nice mechanical manual camera. Nothing fancy just a good solid picture taker. I like that the depth of field preview button is located conveniently on top next to the prism housing, as well as shutter speed is controlled by the ring around the body lens mount as opposed to the usual location on top of the camera body.
Thankd Jules. Love your videos. Just bought one based on your description. Looking forward to using mine soon
Very helpful video Jules!
Thanks. I just picked up a Nikkormat EL and this is helpful. I have loads of ai and ais lenses, plus the odd non ai lens. Excited to shoot with my “new to me” old camera.

The EL is a great camera. Nikon first electronic SLR. I have a Nikon EL. Basically the same as the Nikkormat.
I think the FT2 also proposed a more reliable iso setting.
Thanks
Just bought one of these today at an antique game and toy store for $6. Seems to work

@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I was surprised. Owner of the store said it was part of a box of stuff he picked up real cheap somewhere. For 6 bucks...couldn't pass that up
I prefer the Nikkormat Ft2
What battery do I need for FT? Can’t find information on it.
I own a Nikomat FT. Can I use that model on full manual, no battery. As to not really on a light meter but instead follow sunny 16 rule.

Yes. It’s a fully mechanical camera. The battery is only needed for the meter. You can download a free cell phone meter if you have a smart phone. I think it’s called myLightMeter.
