Check Out This Nagamaki from True Katana!!!

In this video we look at what makes a Katana a Nagamaki, and this beautiful Katana from TrueKatana.com ‪@TrueKatana‬
www.truekatana.com/products/2...
The Nagamaki is a long-handled katana, which does not have a standard proportion which means you will find long handles with regular katana blades, long handles with long katana blades like an odachi. We will look at a breif history, close up inspection of the sword from True Katana, and I'll put it to the test with waterbottle cutting, and technique training. I am very pleased with this katana, and the price, making it a very budget friendly, and practical sword.

Great job my friend, when you said its missing the Koiguchi, what do you mean? did you mean its missing bull horn over the Koiguchi opening?...brother your very modest, your handling of any weapon is awe inspiring and so elegantly done...great cuts...I am happy to see this priced as it is, the ones i reviewed were WAY over priced for a very bad product, this seems just right...well done.

😅 Yes, I meant bull horn over the Koiguchi. I guess it would be pretty tough to sheathe the sword without any koiguchi 😆

This is a curious one as nagamaki tend to have proportionally larger handles, very similar to the LK Chen Chang Dao in scale with a much shorter blade. When the blade length is fairly petite (as many production katana lengths seem to be standardized for ease of the draw/manufacture), this would also make something like Bugei's swords 'nagamaki' with the metric of tsuka being 1/2 of blade length when the tuska is appx. 14" and the blade is 29/30". I haven't dabbled in nagamaki myself, although the (now extinct) models from Dynasty Forge had more...'quirky' if not unique dimensions compared to this example (the handle was over 20 inches in length if I remember right while the blade was roughly 30). The proportions were similar to the Cold Steel "nodachi" that's still available. There's also this example Skallagrim reviewed, which has an absolutely baffling handle size (it seems awfully confused as to whether or not it wants to grow up to be a naginata): kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoKburmepMm_gZM.html That was fantastic flow with the Twin Peaks! It really is impressive just how quickly that sword can move with correct application. I hope you have fun further comparing and contrasting these different swords as you examine the commonalities and differences. Cheers!

That's the one thing I was leery about when calling this one a nagamaki, as even on TrueKatana's site it's listed as just a katana. Pretty much everything I found about nagamaki said that there are no standard measurements for anything other than a longer than normal handle so I dug in 😅 I did see Skallagrim's video, and I like the way you put it "it seems awfully confused as to whether or not it wants to grow up to be a naginata"🤣

For a long time I have been considering buying a similar Nagamaki and carrying it with a Wakizashi instead of the standard Katana. I really liked the longer handle due to the greater leverage and greater (for me) feel of the sword, i always find myself better with weapons that have longer grips, but I am afraid that when worn on the belt it may be bothersome due to its length.🤔

Sir i got a question do tiger kungfu have stealth technequies?

  • @SifuKuttel

The quick answer is no. Stealth techniques would be something taught as supplementary to the hand to hand techniques of any style, which could be any style and not specifically tiger style.
