    That saber looks a lot like a early proto-sabers found in the steppes from the Wikipedia drawing. I think the Mongols used something close to the Dao in the second part of the video, there is even some Yuan era Mongol sabers found resembling it in the Genghis Khan museum.

    Excellent video! I got the Doc Fai Wong book on Choy Lee Fut. I've probably read every "Inside Kung Fu" article on Doc Fai Wong. If I knew there was an article on him, I'd get it. To Me, Choy Lee Fut has always meant Grand Master Doc Fai Wong, by default. MUCH RESPECT!!!

    @@nishucreatins3035 Good eye! I demonstrate with a real wooden board for the first shot, and then afterward, when I am explaining the break technique I use a rebreakable board. In the long form videos I break it several times during the explanation so it’s easier for me to put it back together and break again instead of dealing with many separate boards.

    One thing needs to be clear, Mongolian = Chinese, Han = Chinese, Mongolian ≠ Han, Yuan dynasty = 13 - 14th China, the first time full Han region has been ruled by minority. Kublai named Yuan and means that he recognized himself a Chinese, "the son of heaven" aka the true emperor of China! ( the country Outer Mongolia was part of China but got independence by Rusian’s help)

  • @GreaterAfghanistanMovement
    @GreaterAfghanistanMovement4 күн бұрын

    Kublai never saw himself as Chinese but a Mongol. The Mongols were often prideful and tribal people who looked down on the local Han population and even prevented mixing with them.

    A bit late with the comment here, but that truly is a gentleman's sword for its period. Interestingly enough, the Scarlet Sunrise (and the historical example LK Chen used) is very similar to a Chinese jian found in the grave of a Roman Cataphract/Bucellarius officer's grave in Bulgaria; if I recall correctly, the biggest difference was the liang/shuliang was jade rather than brass. Apparently, they were prized world-wide!

    Beautifully elegant, delighted to hear and encouraged to add to this as all martial arts have to evolve and change to suit, a but like life really as nothing stays the same we adapt to the environment and life styles but of course keeps the traditional as the base. As always we turn to the foundations and roots to build on. A wonderful piece of teaching Namaste ☯️☮

    How would you actually land this strike on a real target? i.e hand/finger positions etc. E.g. could you do a short video on actually landing it on a heavy bag or one of those posts behind you? Not neceassry 100% force, just a reasonable real world object with resistance

    as a mongolian lemme give you some info about mongolian saber, mongolian saber was perfect for warriors when the blade was the same length of its owners hand and thickness of the most wide area of its warriors 3 finger wide, the bottom part or the pommel had the symbol of the clan or the shape of the clans animal head, the hand guard had continuous reverse swastika’s engraved, the wood for the handle was made from a very hard wooden bush from todays bulgan province

    Whoa flashback 1983, 14 yrs old, 1 yr into Kung Fu Wushu Snake, Fresno California, we had a visitor, Ernie Reyes Sr. he was a friend of our school and came to watch us, i think he was doing something tournament wise, long time ago. I remember the wiggly fingers and i overheard a voice say we have tape for those lizard feet. Now 55 no more wiggly fingers, also been years since i practiced, nice ptsd present from the 23yrs in the Coast Guard, but my doctors says i need to breathe and focus and that reminded me when i learned to breathe and focus and i found you. So i'm slowly reliving those moves one step at a time, i always felt Snake was much more fluid than some other styles i learned, plus the couple fight I've been in over 50 yrs ended quickly with the snake, decades ago. I've taught all my girls the 3 contacts that weight has no bearing on.

    It exist in Han dynasty era, but it special made by blacksmith, not standart weapon. Green dragon crescent blade and snake spear are real in Han era, not myth.

  • @SifuKuttel
    @SifuKuttelАй бұрын

    Unfortunately, since neither original of the Green Dragon Crescent Blade nor the Snake Spear survived to this day, there were no sculptures, or artwork, and nothing similar was made until hundreds of years later, it is very doubtful.

  • @User-kjxklyntrw
    @User-kjxklyntrwАй бұрын

    @@SifuKuttel nope, Chinese very good at recording historical record and folk story from ancient time and already had advance metallurgy from thousands of years ago. If it said crescent blade and snake spear, it was exactly like that. The reason why it special weapon, it beacause it thickness and weight more than standart weapon, so it can have that special shape.

  • @SifuKuttel
    @SifuKuttelАй бұрын

    @@User-kjxklyntrw I’m still waiting for something even close to either weapon to be unearthed to be convinced otherwise. I think it would be awesome if they did exist and were wielded by the real Yunchang and Yide, but it is very difficult when myths are woven into cultural history. Either way, it wasn’t the weapon that made either man legendary generals and warriors, they didn’t need a custom blacksmith for that 💪💪💪

    This is such a badaaass looking sword! Something with the simplicity and balance gives it such elegance resembling a piece of art rather than a tool for violence.
