Check out the Rear Suspension on my DIY Supercar: Prototype Ep4

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Episode 4 of Project Supercar, which is my home made, DIY Supercar I built in my shed, covers the rear suspension and set up of the chassis, without a welding table, for the construction of the prototype chassis.
Although I have an interest in kit cars, including Lamborghini replicas, Ferrari replicas, McLaren P1 Replicas and other self-made kit car of other marques, like Porsche, ford GT40 and the AC Cobra, I have always wanted to build my own unique brand, which I call the Cerberus VMR6.
Please subscribe and follow me along and see if I can ever complete my dream.

For setting up chassis on an uneven floor I’ve used clear silicon hose in each corner and joined by a cross in the centre. Use coloured water ( we used coffee and called it a coffeeometer) to help see the levels on the tube. This will give you a 100% level datum.

I had this wild idea that building my own super car is the only way I will ever satisfy my passion. I just happened upon your videos and my sir, u think just like I do and I have thoroughly enjoyed the videos I’ve watched. Keep going, your a good inspiration for me to continue my current project!

Many thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. One of the reason I'm doing these videos is to connect with people who think like me, and also share the same dream to build our own Supercar. Glad you're on board and I'm an inspiration for you to build your project. :)

A floor ride height is a bit low. The Department of Transport has sent a letter to all councils saying that speed humps must not be more than 100mm high so I would go with that for clearance on a road car. Having said that I set my ride height on my GTM at 120mm and got stuck and had to be lifted off a speed hump in Walsall.

Yeah, I know I’ve pushed the standard ride height a little low. Although when I did the math it came in at 105 mm, it does also depend on the tire side wall and wheel size, so I tend to say 90-100. That said you can easily raise it up a further 20 mm, without too much suspension geometry change. If you really need it higher, say 160 mm, then bolt the suspension arms in the lower bolt holes in the chassis. I think a standard Audi R8 runs a 120 mm ground clearance, with a Porsche Cayman at 110 mm and Ferrari 458 115 mm. Oh, Koenigsegg runs 100 mm, but does have front lift. Yeah, I can relate to your GTM getting stuck on a speed hump; I once own a 300zx TT with a 60 mm ground clearance. I could only take some speed bumps at angles, one wheel at a time lol. I like the idea of your coffeeometer; don’t suppose you have any video or pictures? I could use it in the next episode as a tech tip?

No pictures of thecoffeeometer. That was before the days of KZread, but feel free to use it in a vid. Cheep and always works (unless the coffee freezes. Oh yeh, don’t use milk and sugar. :-)

Hi mate, Subbed, from the homebuild facebook group. This is great. Very very similar to what I want to do. 2.7t + E46 front subframe. At least thats the plan so far in my head. I'm still a few years from even starting. Keep making the videos I'm super interested. do you have any videos about the frame build?

Hi Ratgreen, I’m sorry for the late reply but KZread didn’t notify me of your comment, so I’ve just seen it now. Anyway, I’m glad you’re enjoying the series. Yes, I’ll be going into more detail regarding the chassis in future episodes, stay tuned. ;)
