Red Bull : Gives you [flexible] wings

As usual, what's the big controversy? First of all, do all these flexing wings meet the test criteria specified by the FIA? If so, they are legal. If they cannot pass the test they are immediately illegal. Can the FIA see evidence that the wings are flexing too much under race conditions at speed? If so, then the FIA needs to come up with a better test for compliance. If the cars can't pass the new compliance criteria they will then be illegal even if they passed the old compliance criteria. What's they key here? The FIA is once again dithering and wasting time rather than getting right on this and doing their job properly like professionals. As fans, we shouldn't have to speculate from our armchairs whether or not teams are cheating. That the responsibility of the FIA. They're just not very good at it.

Truth is more than a few if not all of them have a vested financial interest and are therefore in the pocket.

Cheat until you get caught - but meanwhile accuse others of cheating. Red Bull's wings arent the only deflection here

Whatever dude.... Red Bull is way more open about their car than Mercedez and they have the right to point out cheating behavior if they see it... And yes they have not been penalized yet for any thing on their cars that do not adhere to the rules.... Mercedez and Ferarri, well now, I can write a book about them cheating.

@@psyborg01 Agree - A few seasons ago Max walked past Lewis's car, ran his finger on a surface. All hell broke loose. "cheat" "spying" etc etc. Lewis was whining, 'he touched my car!' Toto was demanding action taken on Max. They ALL walk past each others cars. They are all the SPYING. Toto gets stuck in ... Two faced is too kind. After seasons of trashing Max, Toto now sings his praises and is actively courting him. F1 is getting to be a circus, racing becoming a side show.

Fair is fair. If they’re using it to their advantage than yes, either stop it or RB should do the same.

F1 has always been this way. Was it back in the 70s when Ferrari spotted a suspect feature on a McLaren but stayed silent until the other team won - then appealed so that their rival was disqualified...

Under Braun, with Schumacher driving, they were doing it all the time. They got a McLaren booted for having one out of three paper seals missing from an electronics box. Never mind that there was no way the box could have been opened with the other two seals in place. Rules! But in the same season Ferrari had totally illegal, "experimental" barge boards. According to Braun the boards had been attached for testing and they'd forgotten to replace them with legal ones. So sorry. Stewards "apology accepted. Just don't do it again please". Times and grid position remained unchanged.

No penalties for him, they closed the eyes of mercedess breaking every single rule. Ferrari would have multiple titles with kimi and vettel there leading, but fia had to give undeserved championships to their PRmonkey pamperham, instead of vettel and kimi.

If they think it would make them faster and get away with it then why dont they just do it?

Like a bunch of kids,you are doing this I’m telling,oh yeah you’re doing something to,it’s getting ridiculous.

So let me just try to understand this. The top teams are starting to catch up with red bullies, so they HAVE to be cheating? So a few years back, when rbr actually DID design their rear wing to flex outside of the regs but undetectable with the detection rigs used at the time. In fact, the FIA had to design new rigs because of what Red Bull did. Worse still was that they not only cheat, were caught doing so but weren't punished whatsoever, and then given time to change the rear wing in incremental stages. And of course, because it's Red Bull, they accused Mercedes of having a rear wing flex issue of their own, but rather than let Mercedes fix the broken part, something that rbr had been allowed previously......... So yeah, rbr up to their old tricks again. No way can any other team be as good as us, so we're going to accuse them of cheating! If only the FIA would actually do something for Red Bull, maybe.......!!

They say all this crazy stuff forgetting that most f1 fans have a pretty good memory regarding just how much red bull have cheated over the years, and it's mostly been flexing wings. I guess that really does make them the experts on how best to cheat the system and get away with it.

@SuperKosi and that wouldn't be a problem if it's true. But here's the reason for my post, and it's quite simple to understand. Red Bull can't seem to understand why they aren't the quickest at every race any longer. So, instead of looking internally, they just straight out point the finger and accuse the other teams of cheating! I have been saying this since around this time last year, but there is only so much you can gain from downforce and ground force. There has to be, unless any team has found a way to change the rules of physics. So let's just say for a moment that red bull have reached that limit and that the other teams are just now finding that sweet spot that gave Red Bull their edge for 2 years. Are you suggesting that Red Bull might actually have something or just pointing out that every team has the right to point fingers? Is it possible that horner et al. are trying to get prying eyes off of them because maybe they have something to hide that can get them back on top again, only using something that might not be legal?

From image's I've seen the flex looks the same amount for RB and others, the only difference I see is RB has a higher starting point.

tbh, i can understand where Redbull is coming from. The other teams have accused them for having flexi-wings, which lead to investigations, so why isn´t Redbull allowed to do so as well? Of course it´s a bit ironic to accuse others of doing the same illegal things they did. But if others report them to the FIA, they have all the right to report them as well.

Red Bull did the same to Vettel all along 2014 and then to Ricciardo in 2018. Ferrari did it to Vettel once again in 2019 and 2020.

Why not just allow it? If you got the better engineers who create better auto adaptable front wings, its no different than having better engineers creating a better power unit

Twas ever Thus'.. Colin Chapman would have revelled in this.. The designers of these cars are at the very pinnacle of their art.. The FiA is always one step behind playing catchup. New tests have to be implemented, and new rules contrived in order to account for the talent and improvisations of the F1 design engineers.. Progress is never the consequence of rule makers.. only of innovators. Let the F1 teams have that printed and placed on the wall.

How can Red Bull slow down their rivals, when everything is within the rules? If it isn't then they have all rights to complain...

this rule feels dumb. Like as long as the part isn't too weak and shattering and spraying material all over the track let them design in flex. If you want to stop them from flexing toom uch say that the flex deflection can't exceed x,mm so you don't get a full on open flap like the drs, but who cares. Let the designers design.

As the other teams close the gap to Red Bull and Red Bull seems to have "lost" a little bit of the racing edge, they of course you are going to jump up and down and try and get an advantage over your rivials. It.s just they way of the world of sport, especailly when it is F1. 10ths of seconds meand the differance between P1 and 10th place. Just look at qualifing.

Nobody was raising hell about bending wings when Merc was winning race after race.

Karen Horner whining because they’re not so dominant anymore (though I suspect they’ll still have the edge this weekend). Maybe, rather than his continual crying, he looks inwards and ensured he has a pair of drivers who were competitive, despite largely having the pick of available options and his management team not court controversy weekly. Another week another query to the FIA. If you're not doing it then it's about you. Still in curious of how strong a post Newey Red Bull will be.

So yet again - hammer Red Bull. As said most teams try it. Front wings - the others get away with things, or are quietly dealt with. Except Mercedes. they seem to get away with just about anything. Replacing elements of a car get penalties - for others. Spain - Merc replaced a floor. A key aerodynamic feature. FIA - no penalty/sanction because Merc say it is identical to the replaced one - then why replace it! However it appears the new one is lighter than the old one. FIA aren't bothered about the parts weight. So no need for action. Then why all the fuss over weight beginning and end of races?? As the commentator said a lighter car - fractionally - can gain significant speed. A major issue, when times are measured to thousandths of a second. FIA says weight isn't in the rules for declaring changes. Again - then why all the checks on weight - even to drivers having to hold their gloves when doing the post race weigh-in. Toto says 'boo!' FIA jump into action. $$$'s talking.

I´ve read so many comments on Redbulls behavior being a joke, after they have been using the same "idea", they now report others are using. But guys: wtf? Of course it´s pure irony of RB accusing others of the same illegal "technology", they have been using. But they have all the right to do so. You cannot be serious, if you defend ALL other teams having the right to report in their eyes illegal stuff, but then hate on RB for doing the same.

I don’t really see the problem with using a flexing wing. The vertical end plates are constantly getting broken off when two cars collide and no one’s been hurt from it so far. Another way F1 (Excuse me Liberty Media) is ruining the sport. It’s too fast or the cars should be equal 🤦‍♂️ Gimme a break! If I want equal then I’ll watch Indy or NASCAR.
