A multi tool was my most used piece of equipment on remodelling or install jobs. It works great for making notches in studs where you can't drill a hole thru to run cable. I also used it for cutting out drywall. I prefer it to a rotozip. I was using the $10 harbor freight unit because I didn't see the value of the tool initially, but then it became apparent it was an invaluable tool. The notches that held the OIS blades on the harbor freight unit wore down, so I replaced it with a Bosch corded model that uses Starlock. I do have the base model M18 unit, but I don't have many Milwaukee tools and find it to have intense vibration... I would prefer to get the DTM52 / XMT04 or the Bosch GOP18v-28n in future. The Bosch is made in Hungary, the Makita unfortunately is made in the PRC. I wish it was made in Europe, USA or Japan like many of their premium tools.

I try very hard NOT to buy cordless tools when I don't have to. So you buy a cordless saw and use it once or twice a year. At that rate the battery will go bad and the tool will be useless at some point if you can no longer buy a replacement battery. So my advice is to buy corded tools when you don't use them that often or it's not needed. Don't get me wrong, some cordless tools are a god send but some are not really necessary. I have a DeWalt 18V cordless drill that I love and have had for about 16 years. Unfortunately I now only have 1 decent battery for it. When that dies I'll have to try and find an alternate source or be soldering individual batteries together to MAKE a replacement. Why do this or have to do this with all your hand tools ? Choose corded over cordless when cordless is not necessary.

Well, I need my power-tools to last longer than 2 or 3 years with a normal amount of use. Don't want a cheap one with ridiculously cheap parts in it that will fail in a couple of years. So, I need a quality tool. Those just cost more. But they last.

Ryobi stuff is not bad at all. All my tools are Ryobi and things have worked out so well for me.

I’m guessing you were using it one handed because your clamps were slipping, but I’m sure your times would have been faster for both with two hands.

Feel like it was user error on the 2x4. Cut pattern was very different with Makita v Ryobi.

Just got the Ryobi Multitool kit.... Cheap cheap cheap. Odd house jobs, mainly to remove lots of tile grout & also skirting boards for inbuilt ply furniture - so far so good ! Honestly shocked at the value and to good job that they do (just get other branded atachments). Also picked up the new 3 kit (drill, grinder, recip w/ 4AH & 2AH battery and charger. for 249$ AUS. The 4AH and charger alone is 149$ AUD....) Still have Makita biggerr tools like Track saw / drills / router etc..)

You should try the new Makita LXT oscillating multitool the DTM52.

It's a cool tool, just not a tool I would ever use often. I would like to review it though.

If you doing light work not often then Ryobi will be okay. If you using the multi tool alot the makita makes sense. It's one of the smoothest tools that won't beat you up bad. Milwaukee beats Makita in some tools but they sacrafice vibration for for power.

Pretty good review. I have had a Fein Multi Master corded version for the last 20 odd years. I use it regularly and work it hard. Never a problem. The switch is just now acting up on me. I just ordered that Makita you were showing, mainly because i am currently running mostly Makita cordless. Having used many brands I will agree some of the less expensi e brands are a great choice. I have a Ryobi corded grinder that is fantastic. Thanks for the time you put in reviewing.

I've been working for past 3yrs with a crew that uses Makita, Bosch and Ryobi. Multitool: Honestly, (and this makes me throw up a little bit) the Ryobi multitool is far superior to both Bosch and Makita, only drawback is the tool change. Really dislike the Bosch, takes about NAILERS: Ryobi is way better than Makita and costs about 1/3 the price. cordless nailers are NOT Makitas strong suit. -unfortunately Bosch doesn't make cordless nailers. DRILL/DRIVER & IMPACT: They all perform about the same, Ryobi lacks power and speed though. The Bosch Impact seems to have a better hammer function that seems to seat the bit better in the screw/bolt, but After about 2yrs two guys had to replace their Bosch Impacts because they burnt up. The Makita seems to be the winner, all the Impacts and Drills are still going strong and the impact is much faster and produces more torque than the others. SAWS: Makita is best here as well, much smoother operation, and more power than both Bosch and Ryobi. Not sure what Bosch Strong suite is, They are a premium priced brand, yet they struggle to outperform a much cheaper brand like Ryobi across all tool platforms, I've heard they are good with dust collection, but that isn't really applicable to what we do, we move around to multiple jobsites and don't do much in a shop...

Ryobi isn't "cheap", but it's not Makita either.

I got away with a $15 corded Chicago Electric last year for 7-months. It’s corded and has gotten several projects done. Just bought the Ryobi, so it should be quite a bit better than what currently have. Thanks for the video. Seems like both the Makita and Ryobi can both get the job done.

Fein multimaster is still the goat. Bloody expensive, but worthwhile.
