    Thanks for the excellent video on the Drone Beacon module. Received my module and reconfigured it per your video. The reconfig went just as described and the location is not visible using the OpenDroneID app. I'll feel a lot safer knowing my location isn't visible while complying with RID.

Your RemoteID module, and the configuration settings gives me all the confidence I need to move forward. Will be ordering the RID unit after I click comment. Thanks,

    @@thegunsngloryshow Understandable, and if that information were available to law enforcement or FAA to confirm what/who is doing what would be fine. As a side note, rest assured, the wide angle lenses can not see much detail at all at any height, much, MUCH less than people think. That being said, allowing the general public to find the real time location of the the pilot, and enabling a confrontation, many times heated, and sometimes even with weapons, is unacceptable. This is a recipe for disaster, and someone will get hurt or killed for doing something innocent and legal.

  • @AlienDrones

    @AlienDrones

    10 ай бұрын

    @@thegunsngloryshow Indeed, remote ID as it is now is problematic honestly unsafe, hence my attempt to level the field, at least a little, by working with Bluemark. To your question, "... I own 38 acres...", the answer is that the _property_ ownership is irrelevant to the FAA, as FAA has jurisdiction of ALL _airspace_ both controlled and uncontrolled. So if it's in the airspace it's controlled by the FAA, and if it is in FAA jurisdiction all the rules apply for operating in that airspace. This is what allows any airplane, helicopter and hot air balloon to operate over your property with impunity. If your flight is indoors, then the FAA has no say. I know some will say "how will the FAA know" if I'm over my own property, and this is a fair point, but if a medical helicopter has to divert or if the drone flies away into the path of an airplane for instance, that's when any violations will all pile on, IMHO.

    This is great news! Something I'll definitely look into after seeing how this plays out with people getting accosted for Karens calling drones in as "not complying" because they can't see the drone on the app and LEOs then accosting a pilot if thsy don't believe they are complying. I've had similar experiences in the automotive field skirting laws, completely on the legal side, but having overzealous police automatically assume and ticket me as if I were in the wrong. My issue with this module, way too expensive. On the plus side, I can easily transfer it between my builds. Yes, I build my fpv quads. And I beat the snot out of them. Is that thing durable? And it's too big for my 3.5" builds. Thank you for sharing, hopefully as we get closer to September we'll have more options. Happy flying everyone. 🤓

    As far as modules, I think this is good that at least one is looking to address one of the biggest problems with Remote ID. Cost is still a bit much, but for a hobbyist, buying only one that could be moved helps. It does look a bit big though, and durability is definitely going to be a problem with these things. For those wanting to comply, this looks to be a better option than the others I have seen thus far. Maybe the FAA should give vouchers for the cost difference from what they promised to what we actually have? LOL yeah, that'll never happen

    This video is epic for me. I have an older EXO Cinemaster 2 that works great and I just couldn't justify some of the Remote ID module prices to continue using it for anything beyond recreational use. Now that there is an option to remain compliant, but thwart the casual snooper, this option is amazing. This should be a feature of any remote ID module. With time running out, I think this is the way I will go. In the future, my drone upgrades will have it on-board, but I'm in that awkward transitional phase with an older drone that I want to keep flying Part 107.

    Hey great video very informative. But I have a question about connecting to the internet for the remote ID To be able to broadcast. I have an area that is located in West Virginia and it’s between mountains many mountains to be exact. And this area doesn’t have cellular service or wifi. When I fly into the area I have to wait until I get back into city limits before getting any signal to my phone. So I don’t see how remote ID can possibly work in locations such as this? I am however able to connect to GPS satellites with my DJI drones. And they still work in this area I just don’t have any internet connection.

    Hello and thanks for the question! This is a common misconception as there is no cell service, WiFi or Internet required for Remote ID. This was proposed early on and was eliminated by the FAA before the rule was finalized. Someday they might revisit this, but for now no networking is needed. 🤙

    Hi, Thanks for your contribution to the firmware enhancements. If I deactivate the "Reply to active WLAN scanning" function, will that prevent me locating my unit with my own phone when I land off-site? If so, could the firmware be modified to allow a specific mobile phone access to the signal. That would allow the pilot access whilst excluding the "Karens".

It might fit on top in front of the battery, but that puts it very far forward. Center it front to back and Velcro it to the battery? Thoughts? Excellent video. I have a DB-120 on order. I assume what you select WLAN BEACON under the RADIO tab, you're turning off is the data transmission that a standard cell phone App can copy and display. You mention Law Enforcement and the FAA have different detection equipment that can still monitor this RF ID Device with the parameters you mentioned being turned off. Just curious, when selecting WLAN BEACON mode, what RF ID signals can the authorities still monitor on the DB-120? In other words, how did you determine that by selecting WLAN BEACON, the DB-120 remains legal to use in the US?

  • @AlienDrones

    Thanks! The WiFi is not turned off, just the way it responds to requests. Professional scanners have more robust signal scanning and don't need the specific signals that are needed by consumer cell phones. According to the manufacturer of the device, if configured as noted it is a compliant broadcast according to the rule as it still meets the approved FAA DOC as submitted.

I have been watching You Tube info. about these rules, license & certificate I was made to get the Trust by the son. Glad it is helpful, and thanks for taking the time to comment! If you are flying only for fun, the Mini2 SE is below the weight limit which requires registration so you don't need to add any modules, and it is not transmitting on it's own, so you're good! Correct, this is for RC planes also, but only those that are above 249g OR flown for commercial (part 107) purposes... 👍

    Is it correct to assume that after we get and reconfigure our new Db120 module that we also need to go back to the FAA site and update our Registration information if we have previously registered as recreational flyer? Also as we are registered can we fly the sub 250gr drone with the extra module weight? thanks for the help. glen

  • @AlienDrones

    @AlienDrones

    11 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the good question! First, if you are registered already, regardless of the weight of the drone, adding the weight of a module will make no difference to you as far as registration, since you already did it. The difference would be if you are flying only recreationally, your drone is 250g and you are REQUIRED to register. If you are adding the module after you are already registered, you may be able to simply add the remote ID serial number to the existing registration, but the ability to update this becomes locked after some period of time (FAA website thing), then you're only choice is to cancel the registration you have and start a new one and add the RID SN to it right away. Will cost you $5 but that is the only way... This all assumes you are talking recreational flier, not Part 107. If 107 let me know, it's a little different. Hope this helps!

(that's catchy) I do wonder though, why not make a phone app that puts out the signal and save the weight on the quad. Nobody is going to know the signal comes from the quad and not your phone anyway. It can just randomize the GPS and altitude data, so long as you're fling nearby what's the harm?

    I only have the details for this one, and we added options to make it react this way. If others have similar firmware and options like this that can be adjusted, and accessed by the end user then in theory it should work on more devices. IMO if manufacturers do this, even on built in modules, they'll sell more drones than those who don't...

    One way to try and narrow it down is to check the frequency of the WiFi for the drone and the module. If they both are the same (say 2.4 GHZ) then it's possible there could be interference. I haven't seen anything obvious yet, but it is always possible if there are competing signals.
