Ive been using the Edifier R1280DB speakers for about a year and a half, and they’re pretty amazing. I use them for my TV, streaming music and podcasts, and to listen to albums with my U-Turn Orbit Custom. My wife and I live in a small apartment, and we’ve had a few complaints from the neighbors that our music is too loud. These tiny things can put out some sound!!

I’ve had a set of those for a couple of years now and really like them. I have since put my Bluetooth turntable away and bought a pair of non powered Klipsch speakers but I still have the Edifiers in the room to stream music from my phone.

Frank, after watching this episode, I went to Amazon and ordered the R1700BTs set. These speakers are awesome. I've never heard of them until now. They were the same price as what you got so I upgraded because of the reviews between the two. Thank you for talking about them. Damon from Louisiana

Hi from the UK. I have a pair of Edifier speakers in my mancave/office connected to a Technics linear tracking turntable (via a basic phono preamp) and a Sony cd player. They produce excellent quality sound for the money, perfect for when I’m pounding away on my elliptical trainer ! You are right about the remote though, mine just stopped working after about 6 months but as I rarely used it anyway it’s not big problem for me. Love the videos, hope you have a good selection of Thin Lizzy albums in your collection 😉

I just got these for my daughter, she's getting an Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB for her 16th birthday since she just got bit by the vinyl bug. Her room is about 10x10 and these sound great, I bought the newer version with blutooth 5 and a sub out. I ordered the sub to arrive on Sat, see if it adds something for music (she's not a gamer and this won't be hooked up to a computer). I ordered the R1280DBs first but after testing them for two days I wasn't happy enough, there was just "something" missing. Compared them side by side today with the 1700 and like those a lot more, clearer, much nicer sound stage, at least in her room. I did add some silicone feet to isolate them better, they'll be on the same shelf as the record player, only way to set it up in her room. The speakers sound great with the turn table and with blutooth, I played a whole bunch of records and streamed all kinds of things from metal to jazz and latin guitar. Happy with the sound, she can upgrade down the road, this is already a pricy b'day present, but I'm sure she'll be happy with them for a long time, perfect for a dorm too. Been watching your channel for a while but missed this review, glad you like them too. I find it hard to compare speakers, but here I set them both up, used two phones to stream the same song from spotify and used the remote. Set one speaker to mute, the other to play, the remote works for both, so every time I hit mute it muted one and the other played, much easier side by side than changing the wires in the rear back and forth. I just like the 1700 better, a more open sound field. I'm by no means an expert, my main system is a surround system I bought over a decade ago with Axiom speakers (from Canada I believe). Works for me. I had my vinyl in the garage for over 20 years but she made me dig it out and set up our old player. I won't buy any vinyl for myself, switched to CD and there are some 4k of those around the house, more than enough, but she's already spending her money on new records and I'm enjoying playing my old history again. All in great condition, bought in Germany as a teen. Fun stuff :-)

Ill be honest i heard the R1280DB here in the Philippines, i have a hifi set up with tube pre amp, i have s0eakers that are thousanda of dollars. The 100 dollar speaker of edifier blew me away, not that its amazing, but because at its price, it went beyond. I ended up buying it, to listen, so everytime i go back to my main system, i can appreciate it again. Its a detox, and to prevent me from upgrading. But in its own right, i cant complain. Sometimes we like to hear something different.

    10 ай бұрын

it seems that these go a little louder then the R1280's. also the finish on the 1280 is mostly plastic (like the knobs on the side). The 1700 are a little bit better cuality with the metal finish instead. And if you would go for the R1280's i sugest you go for the 1380T instead. It is the newer version from 2021 instead of the R1280 that are from 2015. Anyway buy what you wan't and Have Fun with them !

@@TimKearn Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but: how do I connect these speakers to the amplifier? My set up is a Technics turntable connected to the phono stage in the amplifier. The amplifier has 4 slots to speaker cables. But, as far as I know, these speakers don't have traditional speaker cables.

@@RodrigoAlves-bc8qq Not at all! From what you described, I believe it should be the usual red & black in/out cables. One from the amplifier & the other to the speakers.

@@RodrigoAlves-bc8qq the speakers have amplification built in. You connect right to them with your turntable, cd player, computer, etc. I suppose you could connect a ‘line out’ signal from your amplifier to these if you wanted to add more speakers to your system. But don’t use the speaker outs. You’ll damage the speakers.

Frank, I understand your opinion on the remote control (I agree) but as I am seeing / finding out - it looks like that is the wave of the future many of my recent electronic purchases all have the same similar size remote... 😐

What's this about B T They look pretty neat. That's kinda crazy about the cord for it. Hopefully it dont crap out because of it being a priority type cord. And yeah. Sketchy remote. Hope you can do all the remote stuff on the speakers. Especially switching to the line in.

These are great, and go as low as $100 USD (got mine for 120) but even at 200 CAD (150USD) it's a really great deal. Edit: Full agreement on the remote btw. Though I use it in the same manner (video editing/audio mixing) so it's easy to just leave the remote in my desk drawer. Edit 2: also had em hooked up to my Technics SL-D2 with my Fosi Audio Box X2 and, again, it sounded great!

The bass kind of sounds wooly on these compared to something like Presonus. Other than that, really nice speakers for the money. Considering they are nearly the price of a pair of Presonus E5's, I can't really recommend them.
