Good review, thanks! Subscribed. I'm getting a similar model, the R1855DB, because those are the ones available in black in my country. I already have the R2000DB for my TV and I couldn't be happier. Also had the R1000TCN for about 15 years, then I loaned them to my mother and now I can't get them back, lol.

I had to break these in to open up the high mids up a little, and after a few weeks things rounded out. These speakers are super flat down to about 120-150. They are pretty directional as well. I added a 12 and I was able to get a great, and full sound. They dont feel that pushed and I think the wood makes the response nice and tight. I think they are flat and not tuned for loudness, so that might throw some people off, but you probably wont forget your old altecs, however, these are VERY satisfying.

Hi Morgan. Typically the Dac in a phone or PC is not very good at all for audio quality so I would say yes, it would suffer. To improve the sound quality, I would connect the PC or phone to an external DAC then out to the speakers via RCA. You can find cheap dacs on Amazon for $50 to $100.

That’s a question of how much bass you like and what speakers you paid with the iota SA3. The Iota is a fairly neutral amp so if you pair it with bass heavy speakers, you will have enough bass where a sub may not be needed. You can always add a sub at a later time if needed.

I just bought these for the tv. I think they are very forward in the vocal which is great for dialogue but less ideal imho for music and yes, I agree the treble is EXTREMELY prominent and sharp. Listening to a rock track, it sounded like the Hi-hat was place front and center of the stage. I eq'ed the hell out of it just to try to tame the high end but to very modest effect. Overall, to be honest I am kind of disappointed in the sound signature of these speakers. That said, I bought them primarily for my HTPC and for movies so far they're great. I plan on adding a sub soon. I just wish they were more capable for music too.

Hi Mark. They won’t distort that’s not my concern. And they will play loud enough too. My concern is when played at loud volume, 80db and up, the top treble may seem sharp or a little bright to you. Adding a sub does help tame this however. If you don’t mind a little sharp top end, these may be ideal for you. Hope this helps.

@@sidsreviews1110 will turning down the treble knob help when you crank it up tame that wild treble? I will be pairing this with a Elac 1010 sub.

I would say that works ok if you dial back the treble a bit. I think if you pair it with the Elac sub you should be happy with that combo.

@@-MarkWinston- With such dimensions, another better sounding, more discrete and powerful option in my view, is a pair of Taga Harmony TAV-606S V.3 or 806S, Magnat Monitor Supreme 202 or Dynavox RLS-40. Add a bluetooth FX Audio DTA2.1BT2 or an SMSL SA300 integrated amp. Throw another 20-30 for cables, from more than decent and reasonably priced brands, like Oelhbach, Dali, Supra, Norstone, QED, Clicktronic etc and you'll be much better off for an extra 40-50 euros more. However, same as with the Edifiers, you'll need two stands.

Seems that power output is your main concern. And using Bluetooth as principal input for you. I wouldn't trust a lot your review.

@@sidsreviews1110 'not a review of the sound' what a dopey comment. You can't truly review the actual 'sound' you can *only* really review via a commentary, and yours was excellent. 💯%
