    I could hear the amps of your power supply draining away at the end of the winch, causing it to struggle. As others have suggested, you need a roller of some sort on the front of the trailer. The nylon rope you're using is great if you're out the bush, winch on the front of the vehicle and using it to drag yourself forwards, but they are terrible when they are dragged across things, so either mount the winch higher up or put a roller fairlead in there (that aluminium thing on the front you didn't know about, that's a called a fairlead). Also, if you hook an Anderson plug up to the X5, just make sure it's running while you are winching, even if there's another battery on the trailer, The amount of amps a winch requires can kill batteries very quickly if not set up right.

    Andrew put a battery on the front of the trailer it doesn't have to be a big one then run an anderson plug from trailer battery to the car battery this will give you 2 bonuses you can put a car on the trailer without using the car power and if the car gets low on power or goes flat you have a power supply on the trailer to start the car win win in my books this is how we have our workshop trailer set up cheers glenn

    I bought an extra connector for trailers and hooked mine up to the running tow vehicle, no need for battery. And the winch sags less with alternator backup. Probably not ok, but i winch my boat once a year...

    For the trailer to look good must get it panted every 6 months to a year and keep it indoor or at minimum under a car port type pull through

  • @nathanjames6951
    @nathanjames69512 жыл бұрын

    Get a snatch block. It will double your pulling force when needed. A battery on the trailer is worth it, but get an isolator so you can use a smaller wire and not have to run mains cable to the rear of the tow vehicle to charge the battery. I wouldn't worry about it rubbing on the rail, but you need to use that chafing guard. That's what the black sleeve on the rope is for.

    I just ordered a 4700 pound winch for my boat. The only thing i am concerned is how well the winch holds the weight? Meaning when i drive uphill. I am always using a safety chain on the boat(about 1100 kg),but that is a safety practice. With the manual winch,i knew that it would be almost impossible for the boat to slid off of the trailer. This is the only thing concerns me. I would bring a wire back from the cars battery, give it like 3 meters extra,and done. So far it looks promising.

    I had the same winch, the first one started binding up like the brake was on all the time. The second one replaced under warranty worked fine till me mad mate borrowed the trailer and proceeded to tow a 3.5T 4wd up the trailer even though the winch was labelled 4500lbs.... I never had any problem with them towing up normal sedans and anything heavier I used a snatch block. I now have a King's 12,000lb winch, much quicker just a hassle with keeping another battery charged. The 4500lb winch was easier on batteries.

    Yeah to be honest, this whinch has just about died, hurt it pulling a car on to the trailer with no wheels. It was pretty good until then. You have to tap it now to get it turning. For the money it was great. But would likely buy a bigger one next time. maybeeeeee. it still works for the moment. haha

    I wasn’t going to……. I have had the 1m throttle mapping through jsr for about a year so didn’t think too much of it with the update. The big bonus with the update imo is the ability to properly support high boost auto and Dct cars now. That is a decent breakthrough.

    Maybe a removable poly block cap over the steel, pull it out when the trailer tilts back level. Or mount a guide roller back a bit, probably more ideal rather than having friction on the rope.

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    Its a bit of a concern, mind you i was never too fussed when using the manual winch. The trailer definity needs some love to get a hold of the rust coming through. Annoyingly its like it must have had surface rust on it, when it was painted. So the paint is just falling off. We are hoping to get it sorted and coated in something decent. But while that is happening might try and modify that front bar, so it has a clear path for the winch rope.
