As a roofer in younger days, working on that roof is going to be a challenge. Recommend scaffolding & safety harnesses! no matter who does it. Love the platters.

Absolutely love the decorative platters, and you placed them in the most perfect spot. My heart was in my throat the whole time you were up on that extremely tall ladder and hearing the music. Lord have mercy. So brave. Your videos have been great all winter, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of the warm weather outside projects to include what I'm sure is a beautiful birdbath.

It is heartbreaking to see all those walls you worked on so carefully so horribly damaged. I hope you get it all sealed up tight.

Did you check the upper roof slope for signs of loose shingles? Sometimes the leak is further away than you might think, and the water follows a joist to a point some distance away before actually coming through the plaster. I had a persistent leak that travelled more than 20 feet before it dripped into my hallway. In your case, you have that break in the roof plane right where the plaster is getting wet. That change in angle could redirecting water off your beam and into the house. The actual leak could be anywhere up to the ridge of the roof.

It's a good idea. Thanks! Unfortunately we can't reach any higher on the roof to inspect it all. We would need to rent equipment like an aerial work platform/bucket truck to get up that high.

So true. Water leaks are awful because it travels. But as far as we could see, the missing zink is the only way the water could come in. Fingers crossed 😊😊😊

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. leaks are the worst, especially when you can't locate the source. I hunted for mine for over 18 months, and felt like I was going crazy. Pro- tip, put a towel in the bottom of your bucket so the dripping noise doesn't keep you awake at night. @@patrickjourneytothechateau9452

On the silver lining side, at least you now know where the leaks and potential leaks are coming from, so they can be fixed properly and last another few hundred years. I remember how utterly shocked and frightened I was when I was meditating in the music room of my home and felt drops of water on me and then saw the leak😱💦!!!. What a relief when I finally was able to have it fixed. The platters are gorgeous and look beautiful where they are placed. My motto,” When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.” Winter always turns to Spring. Think of all the mountains you both have moved and all the fantastic things that are going right in your magnificent home. Can’t wait to see the bird bath🕊🏰.

Those embossed platters look like they were absolutely made for that chimney frontispiece! I've never seen them look so right before. I remember my mom having one (a reproduction) in the 60s when I was a kid, during that period when French things were so popular in the US. Hope you can get that leak sorted soon!

Hi sweeties. I had a great time, first 3 hours Salsa and then 2 hours Disco. Water leakage is the last thing you want. I hope you can solve it yourself. Most important is that the weather gets warmer, dry and more stable. We also have had our share of heavy rain and storm the last few weeks. The copper plates look great on the chimney mantle. I am very glad you were safe on that ladder whilst checking the roof for the leak, oh my goodness!! Glad you found something nice to fill the wall, it looks very good. Tie a tarp over the roof ridge and drape the tarp down over the dormer, tie it well, and wait till the weather clear and it dries out. Then fix.

I'm so sorry about the leaky roof. Chateau life! I love those platters above the stove. They look perfect for there. Hopefully, the rain will let up. It has been very wet and cold here also. You can get some plywood and cut it to size for the side of that dormer window...you'll want plywood, "plaquée contre marine", and rig up some sort of flushing, even if only in plastic, like a plastic bache with a couple of layers that is fixed behind the plywood and rests on the roof, or create a flush system with plastic bottles and silicone, then nail it up to the side of the dorer before you get extensive damage behind the plaster and lathes inside.....

Oh no so sorry to hear the damage the rain has done to your roof. I hope you have nice sunny days soon so you can look at the cause. Love the Brocanting and the lovely French music. The platters you hung in the kitchen are gorgeous they really suit. Another wonderful video thank you ❤

The brass platters look like they were made for your fireplace in the kitchen. They look great. When there’s driving wind and rain the water seeps in where it seldom does. Hope you can find a roofer without having to wait too long. It seems like you had good fortune finding the matching brass plates and the bed frame at the brocante, but the nerve of Martin refusing to carry the bed frame home on his back!!!🤣 He seems like a very nice man and glad you had a nice visit. The serving platters are lovely. Really finish that rang hood off. I really don’t know know what’s going on with the weather this winter. Here in Wales we seem to have had rain nearly every day since Christmas! Then come the 1st March, first day of spring and Saint David’s Day, we get snow!What is going on? 🤷‍♀️I hope the wind blows in a different direction until you can get your roof sorted and not too much damage happens to that wall. Hi Patrick and Stuart please be careful when you are going up ladders in England right now so much rain and our fields are looking like lakes as well don’t know what’s up with the weather right now it is constantly raining definitely get a roofer in to get that looked at the joys of owning a chateau never ending problems that need to be solved but on the plus side you are getting a lot done in the meantime what a find with the platters they look great really sets it of nicely just what it needed see you on the next one

It takes my breath away Patrick when u go on the roof. 😮 omg. So great Stuart is there securing ladder. FYI please have ur CEL phone in pocket Stuart in an emergency. I know Patrick and U R SO CAREFUL but never can be too careful. Maybe renting a Cherry Picker if u do roof maintenance would be a super idea 👍 I really LOVE ❤ur old brass plates u have found for the old fireplace. WOW..stunning. very lovely!! U will get many compliments on that decor 🎉😍 I must say. I NEVER SEE U BOYS UPSET OR FLUSTERED ABOUT REPAIRS. re Patrick and the plaster in the leaky room. He managed the disaster with laughter, incredible😃😂

Patrick, Stewart I might be the Flashing or the Outer edges all Around the dormers. Check Them all around A roofer is am Afraid is needed😊

Roof issues, I suppose, come with the territory, but 🤞that you find a fix for the leak until you find a roofer and that the weather improves in the meantime. Seems Martin brought you luck 🍀at the brocante - you may have to bring him along everytime you go😂

Leaking roofs are no fun! It took us 9 months to get a contractor out to repair inside damages.

I love the platters on the hood in the kitchen. My mother had one of those in our home for years. It was smaller and not as impressive as the 3 you purchased. ❤

You may want to check the other windows. Remember that people will steal lead flashing and the like. Its expensive and happens a lot in England.

So sorry about the leaks. Dormer windows are the pits. We have an ongoing war with ours as well. Hope the weather improves and you can get it sorted before too much damage is done. 🥲

What a great job you did placing and putting up the brass platters Stuart. You made precision measuring look like a piece of cake! Patrick I love how you always find some humour amongst the hardships of owning a Chateau and make us smile with you. I too cannot imagine why Martin wouldn’t volunteer to carry the bedhead home??🤣😂🥰

So my neighbour took one of those platters.. cut open copper pipe length wise and wrapped it around then made a arched walkway in the garden and made a door out of copper tubing as well and mounted the brass plate on the door. hard to explain.. will have to try to get a picture

I have just had a very large. Tree come down it also took the whole of my very large garden wall down I am insured but I must find four estimates well the prices they are asking is just hilarious they must all think I am rich. It is just Robbery
