I hope one day Albertas life can be turned into a mini series from her letters. Growing up in Chicago this would be exciting to watch each week on PBS. ❤️

They do look so tired, but what wonderful projects they have for such a wonderfully historic home.
What I think is amazing is even though you are clearly tired, there is so much light and energy in your eyes.
Yay!!!! You got Malcom’s help! Hallelujah!
Hoping this year will be better for Mapperton with a larger number of visitors. You have both worked so hard, Mapperton hasn't looked this good for over100 years. You can be proud to show it off! People really do need to come and see it.
You both look so tired. I'm an American but I really appreciate all your efforts to keep Maperton looking so elegant. I love history and your preservation of the Montague heritage is truly inspirational.
The energy level in that house is amazing! Two Energizer Bunnies! LOL! A perfect match!
I’m glad Malcom is coming to help with the library, I thought July’s scheme color wasn’t right, but didn’t want to write about it, as I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.

I loved this episode. I loved the programs for the year. I’m 77 in Farmville, Virginia USA, or I’d get on a plane to visit you. Watching your videos make me smile!! Congrats on the hard work to share with all!!!
Cant wait to come to the UK and visit Mapperton! 🎉 In 8th grade(many years ago) my history teacher was so so excited, bc she got to meet your inlaws and ur mother and father in law took a picture with her, during our summer break.. and when the school year started in September when I entered 8th grade a major part of the curriculum was about Great Britain. Our teacher did a whole slide show on her vacation that summer and our extra credit report had to be on the Earl(s) of Sandwich. So when you both br I ng out your family heirlooms and documents its very exciting.
I love Julie's energy and can-do approach to everything!! and Luke's gentle sweet, low-key demeanor about all catastrophies.

I’m exhausted just listening to your agenda!😩 I don’t know how you manage to keep all the balls in the air! Lots of exciting things coming up and I’m so excited to see it all!👏👍🏼🥰 Blessings🙏
You are amazing in creating so many different ways for us to enjoy your lovely home. It must be hugely expensive to maintain a large house and grounds. Thank you so much for all your efforts, and thank you for providing a virtual tour for those of us who will never be able to travel to see Mapperton in person. I have a great interest in the history of the house and the people who lived there. It is so beautiful. I am especially fascinated by the 18th-century court dress. All that embroidery is gorgeous.
This exhibition is going to be absolutely amazing! Can't wait!
I didn't realise the virtual tour was still available - it needs mentioning FAR more often, as well as the cost (ie less than a crappy cinema movie), how long the link lasts, how the money transfer works for those of us outside the Uk, what you get to see on tour, how it works ....etc etc etc. More *MARKETING* is needed as it's an easy way to get support from those of us who will not be able to get to Mapperton in person. I planned to do it last year, got busy and thought I'd missed the boat! Cheers from Oz!!
Can i just say (and please i mean no disrespect if anything comes off as rude) its so refreshing to have found people who are happy to open up their lives as you have to show the rest of the world how difficult it can be to keep houses such as yours. The time, dedication, perseverance, love, sweat and tears you pour into your home is humbling. It can be difficult at times coming from a different social standing to believe there could be so much work to be done by those who own and inherit these houses, especially when the image that we get (especially for those of us who are over seas) is that everything is done for you. Thank you for humbling me and for allowing me to shift my views, thoughts and understanding of how these homes are kept and to learn about their wonderful history. It has also allowed me to appreciate more what i have myself knowing that i will never have to face the decisions and restrictions that you must deal with every day knowing there is only so much you can change about the house that is your home. thank you so very much xx
Wow guys! You're so busy but you need to take a breath for yourselves. You work so hard to keep my beloved English Heritage going. I've learned so much more history since I subscribed. As a seamstress I'm looking forward to seeing those dresses. And I'm ashamed I've never visited Mapperton especially as my Gran was a Dorset girl. Putting that right later this year. Thank You for all your work.
Julie and Luke look absolutely exhausted. We all know that their work NEVER ENDS.

I am all about preserving the history and architecture however I couldn't care less about the spoiled lives of the aristocrats, I think it quiet boring, I would be much more interested in the lives of the everyday folks of the estate but If others are interested and it saves the history, then let's have a peek at the old Biddys dresses and letters to see who she was rubbing elbows with, whatever pays the bills.@@jtsjtsm7920

I agree. They do work very hard to stretch every dollar to keep the manor going. Hopefully this year will see a lot of visitors and few maintenance tasks needing to be done.
I am new on here. Have watched you go to really wonderful castles. Your castle is so beautiful and full of history. You both are not afraid of getting in there and restoring every part either your bare hands and wonderful hearts.❤ I live in the USA and am fascinated with every part of this long journey. My health is not good right now. If I had a Tardis,I would be there in a heartbeat . Wish you well in the upcoming events. Will keep watching your progress. It fascinates me so very much to watch your castle come to life. Thank you for taking me with you.❤
I wonder if the local residents have a better appreciation for the expenses necessary to upkeep this and any manor. I imagine some people have wondered through the past century why the manor owners don't just keep the craftsmen and specialists on payroll. I think this channel would shed a light on why they may not have hired more people throughout the 20th and 21st (so far) centuries.

@@mariajara8165 Most of us can empathize with poor people. In fact, 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (Forbes mag.).So, we are just one paycheck from being unhoused. My point was that we can't relate to the struggles of the aristocrats and it is challenging to be sympathetic. But, you see from the videos, if English history is to be preserved, it is placed on the shoulders of the manor owners (imo rightly so). But, financial resources are limited, therefore they cannot afford to hire the necessary staff, ergo unemployment, which was my original point.
Thank goodness Malcolm is gonna help. Hope he chooses colors we all approve! 🤭☺️❤️
Sometimes it’s so difficult to create when you are pressed for time and resources. I applaud Julie for letting in outside help(not easy) when it is really needed. I understand, as a woman who loves to be the one man band. But it takes a real woman to allow critique and then to change course. Well done.
So glad to hear you abandoned those paint colors and were able to bring Malcom back!
I would love to be there and see the needlepoint workshop. My grandmother taught me needlepoint when I was a child. I can't wait to see the video. Julie everything you have worked on and designed is amazing. Please keep going. I love your videos. If I could come and visit I would, unfortunately it is not in my budget.
Oh my! I finally ordered my passport. I would LOVE to come to Mapperton. I’ve been a fan for a long time, since the protein balls at least, 😉. Now, I will really have no excuse, lol. 🎉🎉🎉

speak so very loudly interrupting him, dominating his remarks, or wave her hands in his face....it bothers me too. But she is so loveable, all is forgiven.
So pleased to hear about the eagles .
I've been watching on and off for a year and am so thrilled to "see" that Julie is still full of American energy! Your "can do" spirit is contagious and I hope you guys get 25,000 visitors! Break some records!!
You do such amazing work, I don't know how you have time to turn around. How exciting to have discovered the dresses and letters.
I am sorry to say that I agree with bringing Malcom back. I thought the colors he chose for the archive room were... intense. but they work. unfortunately all the pink that Julie wanted did not go with colors in the stone work and I believe would have made the room look washed out or out of place. I give Julie an A for effort and enthusiasm. but I am so glad the pinks are gone. ❤😂
@noreengardner1075
Ай бұрын
Yes, the stone would clash with that pink/blush combo.
Julie sometimes I am almost breathless just listening to your activities and schedules. ❤
The amount of money needed for maintenance and upkeep must be insane. No wonder you have opened things up to the public. Best of luck in all your adventures.
I love the eagles! I am so glad you restored them.
Preserving Mapperton's history and the estate itself is a daunting task. I hope you both take time out for self care and relaxation as over extending yourselves is not healthy or prudent. Perhaps a group of volunteers, university students, or retired professionals from appropriate study/proffesional areas relating to history, etc could participate in the hands on running of Mapperton or some of the projects. I think perhaps Nestor could make a good volunteer coordinator being the one who will be the next in line to manage Mapperton. Just my thoughts. I'm very excited for all that is being accomplished.

I would love to volunteer one day. We are retiring from our farm business and I would appreciate the chance to work in a historic estate again (worked in a farm museum as a teenager, and still have a big interest in history/conservation/land management etc). Just need somewhere to park our motorhome!
Great show and all great up-dates! You mentioned the embroidery and a course being offered. If you are providing a work kit for the course, please, consider providing the kit to viewers so we could learn and work along with you. And, we could just pause or rewind when needed. I am an idea girl and I like this one. Also, please, send me some of your energy!!

They both look exhausted especially Luke. I hope they are fine.
The Library in my opinion should be painted in a light peach color because it’s a warm color it’s looks good with all the wood too. Blue is a hard color it’s a cool color and if there isn’t a lot of sunlight it will make the room look cold .
Don’t worry YOU BOTH LOOK MARVELOUS ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
was so excited to see on the topic bar the Eagles, can't wait to see them restored and Back where they belong. Glad to hear Malcolm is coming to really get a good paint color decision for the library, glad you changed your mind. Looking forward to next video about his visit.
That room still open is wonderful. I just got the hunger for a good'ol meat pie with a thick crust. YUM. The room you are in looks like you have worked on it and it does look very nice. Oh, Julie. You have taste. We all do. That doesn't mean it all has to be the same taste. And I don't like doing what is "in" as it is usually a trend and changes on me. So, I look for classic type looks that work no matter what. I think I told you that in a different comment once. I restore old dolls. It is my inside hobby. I love the problem-solving process and the finished product. I love the hand sewing. I went to college for 2 majors and one dealt with many art classes so matching that with my interest in whatever I do is fun. Gardening. Sewing. Painting. Pen and Ink. Crayon. Oil Pastels. Chalk. Charcoal. Pencil. Color Pencil. Markers. (I love working with the water-type markers until I get it almost to the point of finishing and then use the more permanent markers to finish it off.) Clothing. Perfume. Make-up not so much. Jewels, yes! OMG, I love having fun with finding jewels that look terrific and I can afford them. If I were rich I don't know if it would be as much fun because then you see it and you buy it and that is that. Having a budget makes it more of a challenge and solving process and I love it. Cooking. Constructing with and mending with all kinds of different materials or mediums. I would do more pottery, but I do not have a kiln and I need to learn more about the slip to decorate with. Hand-built plain and rustic potter, yes. I can do it and I like it. It is not as fine. I guess it is more statuesque because the walls of the pieces are thick and hand-built with different textures. Watercolor. Crafts of all kinds. Weaving. Presently, I am restoring my grandmother's painting she did a very long time ago and I have watched several programs on how it is done. One rather fills in missing paint that has come off with very small patches of paint. I don't want to say dots, but it is kind of like that. Then when stepping back you see it almost as if it was in its good state before aging. Luckily the cleaning of the painting was very easy and it is on a panel board not canvas stretched so that makes it easier as well. Some fading is present so I will use my memory and carefully restore it back to the color it was before fading. That will be done with almost like washes to build up the color slowly and know just when to stop. Re-touching paintings are done in many stages because you need to be fresh whenever you work on it. Short bursts of work are the way to go. Not laboring over it for hours. Then one tends to "not see" anymore and damage can be done. I learned that from one of the experts. Sometime I will find him and offer it to you to watch if you are interested. Well, I just did it. This is the guy I like to watch. Although I cannot do everything the way he does, I try very hard to stay with his techniques. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGGkmsGIYaTSmM4.html Good video.
This is so much fun. Thank you.
Wow, you guys have your hands full. But so wonderful. Hope you find the turtle.

So, so excited about the dresses! Absolutely love all the upcoming exhibitions 🤗 Julie and Luke so proud of all the work you both have embraced for the history of Mapperton. Best Wishes!
You might consider a digital tour booklet to avoid people littering or accidentally dropping them throughout the property
This is all so brave of you to open up your life and home to the world. Lol I can just hear the wagging of tongues among the snobs class of concern 😅. At any rate we all just do stuff and then we die. It’s lovely to escape my problems into your own. I will not be giving cash, too broke so only my kids get it. Strictly here as a voyeur. Love it. And oh your courage with the pool. Yeeha! And I’m not even Albertan it just seems that kind of gung-ho ranch style goings on. I love old pools, hidden pools, natural hidden pools. This really hits my heart.
I’m watching from Tasmania (originally from Canada) but I’ll have to be satisfied with the virtual tour! I would so love to see the exhibition; I think I’m almost as excited about it as you are. Watched the dresses episode this morning - wow!
Wow...such a stunning place and great events coming up 🎁🖼👑
I adore Julie and Luke. But you guys have to remember to take care of yourself as well. I respect all of your hard works. And I have to say with the utmost love in my heart Julie your eyebrows scared the Daylights out of me today, you're so beautiful but something happened with your eyebrow pencil today❤ Hugs & blessings from Ohio
I saw nothing wrong with the colours Julie picked. They would have brightened and freshened up the library really well. I liked them.
As a gal who has lived and worked in some of the most historically industrialised areas of the Uk, Birmingham, Bradford, Leeds, Hull, and who went on to study Art History and Textile Design, I absolutely love and find fascinating the deep respect you have for preserving every part of the history of Mapperton and it's incredible and beautiful landscape. I'd never even heard of it until the beautiful dress episode popped up in my newsfeed! Now I'm hooked! I live just down the road now from the historical Jackfield and Coalport in Telford & Wrekin, both places with enormous history, in the past dark fiery furnaces of places with amazingly beautiful products being produced ( Jackfield Tiles and Coalport China, transported all over the world...) I definitely want to visit!!! ❤

To Julie and Luke...but, mostly to you Julie, you know how much you are valued in the sceme of Mapperton. You have set an ambitious agenda for yourselves. The Alberta exhibition will be fabulous, library remodel as well. You can only do so much. 😊 Be kind to yourselves. Perhaps, save some of the 'fun' (and I mean that) restoring for later enrichment!! Selling a curated embroidery design or kit is something I would definitely be interested in purchasing 💙 As someone who was also raised in the Chicago area, I love the idea of an across the pond "Taste of...." event 😉
What an amazing manor! I’m American but I feel my heart belongs in England. How lovely for you, Julie, that you live there. I’m a huge fan of William Morris and wonder if you have any of his fabrics or decor in your manor? I love his work and can visualize it in your magnificent home. My dream and wish is that when my husband recovers from his illness that we can visit one day. I would love to see the estate in the run up to the holidays and visit the Christmas fair. It is my dream to see England during the holidays. Thank you for sharing your lovely home and all the great work you are doing on it.

Hello Luke and Julie🎉❤!
I am a new viewer and think your ideas and projects are so innovative and interesting You are both doing such a good job! Thrilled to watch I turned the bell on Don’t want to miss anything! Best Kerry
Any project they undertake is a financial burden and finding the right craftsmen to do the proper work. Nothing absolutely nothing they take for renovations are costing them just a few pennies, it is costly from day one until done and after also making sure it stay in good shape for years to come. I love this couple, they are working so hard to restore this beautiful Manor yet face many problems along the way. Julie is not from a wealthy family, I mean from one of those former extremely rich families that used to seel their daughters, "sorry I meant married their daughters to titles former UK resplendent nobilities." Julie is a down to Earth kindof women with an amazing force to deal with. No wonder Luke felt in love with this formidable women.
I was there 1978 before we moved to Australia. We spent the summer visiting all sorts of places. We were filling our memories of the old manors and gardens and so much more because Australia has so little history compared to the UK. I miss making the tours of the old manors we did that every summer we would pick sites within 4 hours drive there and back for day trips and 6 hours for over night stays. Number one rule, there had to be camping grounds close by. All of the map reading were done by either myself or my brother with a full guided tour on the way to the main attraction, we could not use the same rout when returning home, it too had to have its own tour as well. It was my parents way of teaching us how to read and use a map. It also stopped the “Are We There Yet” question 😹😹😹
Binge watching these videos today! I adore this channel. Love from Atl, GA USA
