Chasing Waves - landscape photography on location #9
Ойын-сауық
Huge waves make for great photos. I went to the Washington and Oregon Coasts trying to capture a few images, and got lucky enough to catch great light as well!

OMG! 12:43min. ... the birds, the light, the reflections.... haven't been so amazed with a photo for a long time! Excellent work Nick!
After watching hundred of hours of KZread video, this is the first time I have felt compelled to write a comment. I can't stress enough what a dangerous environment you were in at the last location of your video. This last Saturday I was shooting sunset pics at exactly the same type of location in my hometown of San Diego, at a area called Sunset Cliffs. There was a group of people near the water's edge, on the other side of a channel from me. They were enjoying the sunset and watching the enormous waves, like many do this time of the year when the surf gets big. I was packing up my gear when I heard screaming. I looked over and saw a rogue wave slam into the rock face and flow over the top. The people who where standing there were now trying desperately to out run the rushing water. Two young women were upended and swept into the channel, the water carrying them into the crashing waves. By the grace of God, a large wave brought one of the woman back to shore where she was close enough for a man to pull her to safety. Unfortunately, the other woman not as lucky. We watched helplessly as she struggled to stay afloat. She cried for help just before a large wave took her under. When she resurfaced she was floating face down motionless. We tried in vain to reach her but there just no way to get to her without putting our own lives in jeopardy. After another wave took her under, we didn't see her again. About forty-five minutes later the sea brought her back to shore. Lifeguards jumped in and pulled her body out of the water. If your're not familiar with the ocean, stay far back. Even if you are familiar with the ocean, stay back. If your are standing in an area where the ground is wet...you're way to close. If the there are warning signs... OBEY THEM!!! Those signs where put up because people lost their lives. If you fall into the ocean during heavy seas, there is little to no chance you'll survive. The West Coastline is a wonderful and beautiful place but it also can be very dangerous place.

+Phil Ruiz I completely agree and totally understand where you're coming from what a terrible thing to witness. Quite a few people have died where I was shooting. But it always happens on the opposite side from where I was shooting on the slick rock surface where the waves roll over. It happens too overconfident young people that are naive about the potential for disaster there. Luckily I'm very very cautious and always error on the side of safety rather than bravery

Yeah when I saw you shooting at that last spot I was thinking to myself if you were aware that there have been quite a few deaths at that very spot you were shooting at! But yeah last week I wouldn't doubt there were quite a few deaths along the pacific coast like Phil mentioned happened in San Diego due to the extra large surf last week. Even where I live in Monterey Bay we had the biggest waves ever recorded over 30 ft and that's out in the bay before they even hit shore! Needless to say at least 2 people also lost there lives here when they got swept out by waves here! www.montereyherald.com/general-news/20170125/weekend-victim-body-pulled-from-pebble-beach-surf?source=most_viewed

The difference between myself going down there, and many many of the other people that do go down there routinely, is that I am going in fully aware of what the sea is capable of doing there, and I am watching out for it non stop. I am about 1 of 50 people that visit that same spot every day, and I am most likely one of the most cautious ones. That place until about 2 years ago was public access. The site didn't change, the liability of letting people go down there did. I am not sure if your trying to look out for me, or just lecture me, would like to think the former, but I assure you I dont have a death wish.

Nick,Ilive on the Forth estuary North sea Scotland and we have some amazing winter-spring tides and i totally agree with you, understanding the tides, the waves, the weather is an integral part of keeping yourself safe in these sometimes demanding situations which make it all the more fun, great vid, great shots, all the best.
Outrageous waves with the birds shots!
That huge wave crash with the birds is my favorite, almost sculptural and the one where the waves come down in what looks like a shell shape, amazing
Some incredible shots in there. Wow!
Beautiful! This is exactly the art that sends chills down my back. I have already watched this a few times. The huge waves surges in contrast to the birds is surreal. Thank you for the tips... very much appreciated as a newer ocean and nature photographer.
Very Cool video!!! I am an aspiring ocean, wave photographer even though I live in Texas and just purchased my first mirrorless camera at the youthful age of 62. Keep up the good work!
What a breath of fresh air this video is! I'm so bored with endless long exposures and smooth water shots, this is what the sea is all about. Fantastic shots that express the power and beauty of the water. Love it!!
Still some of the most incredible images I've ever seen and I come back to it every so often; this video deserves more likes!
These are inspiring - make we want to do my next vlog on waves!
Great picture of the lighthouse and weave , thanks for sharing 🙏👍❤️😊🎥
I am 3 hours from the ocean and 4 hours from the mountains. Thunderstorms and Nor'easters are my passion. Love your video's !!!
Amazing photos!...the waves and seabirds, just incredible!...🌈🇬🇧😎
Those two pictures with the seagulls are just amazing.
Whilst relatively new to the you tube work of photography in terms of 6-12 months, I’ve seen many epic shots of all sorts of composures. This is one of THE MOST epic and dramatic, emotive shots. I’ve ever seen. Can’t stop looking at it. Beyond stunning and motivates me to become better everyone I go out. Thanks Nick.
Oh. My. Gosh!! Gorgeous, gorgeous, powerful photographs!

Wow, these shots are amazing. Looks like a fun adventure!
Another great video Nick. I've been a frequent visitor to exposed rocky shores for more than 50 years and you've nailed it with advice about waves. People get caught (or worse) when they don't understand the natural cycles of waves and tides. I love the backlit shots with the birds!
Some awesome shots right there nick,,, lovely to see you talking your son with you too, keep up the good work my friend, Thanks, Bob 😎

The River hand held images were fantastic ! Thanks ;)
8:56 WOW! Just WOW!
Great video. Am I the only person who sees the diving footage from outside the car and just imagines them parking, placing the camera, turning around, driving by, turning around, picking up the camera, turning around, and finally continuing on? haha
