Charming Cottage Garden Arch Trellis Build

Ойын-сауық

Can I transform my chaotic front yard into a dream cottage garden? This week I'm creating a gorgeous arch trellis with native vine in my cottage garden.
Here is the exact one I got: amzn.to/48QVnPc
This is the one I would've gotten if the sidewalks weren't so wide: amzn.to/4a3iDuk
Big price difference having unusually wide walkways.

Awesome job 🩷 May want to consider spraying flex seal on the other trellis’s wooden posts to prolong their lifespan in the ground (at least the part you plan to bury)… I’ve always made fun of flex seal commercials, but that stuff works 😆

I love watching you two working together doing projects, and look at you use those power tools. I remember the video of when you first got them (best video ever, lol). Love the outcome, it looks great. I bought those morning glories, they're doing great in my garden. I'm going to be putting a trellis in my front garden & I'm thinking of mixing the honeysuckle with them in the front. Like you, I think they'll be a great combination. Good job, can't wait to see the next one.

Just a thought: check your post hole digger. A lot of them will have depth measures marked out on one of the handles. And don't fret too much about level during the initial phase. Get the holes roughly the right depth, finish assembling the trellis then work on getting your posts plumb and level, using the highest one as the static post. It's easier to lift a low post slightly and pour some sand in the sides until it is level and then work your way around.

Looks good! Please continue to update as the vines are trained to the trellis. I need step by step, visual instructions, of training progress please. Mine tend to get away from me then end up looking crazy. Then I resort to cutting the vines waaaay back and essentially starting all over again.

Just starting to watch, but an idea, last year we put a trellis over our sweet potatoes. It worked great and was so lush, and also shaded the main plant (even tho they like sun, um Florida!) and the blooms looked really pretty up higher like that. Ha, we actually had the main plant in the ground, surrounded by the rim of a kiddie pool we half-buried, that we cut the bottom out of. It helped keep the runners under control too. That trellis was FULL. Had to train them up with tomato clips at first but then I just could keep weaving them in as they grew. :)

You guys are great. It looks fantastic. Just a little fyi for future projects. Go to the local hardware store and get the pvc fittings to connect your garden hose to a 3/4 inch length of pvc. Start your holes with the post hole digger place your your posts in then "jet" the pvc pipe along side the pole. It will displace the sand under the hole and sink that thing lickety split. Be aware it happens fast and in your application, you will have to move between posts and check level as you go. It is also a great technique when you need to run irrigation or electric from one side of a walkway to the other. Also, your big box store has 4 x 4 sleaves. They are a plastic type of material that you put on your post so that it covers the post in the first six inches of soil/wood contact where decay termites etc rot your posts.
