the LG G4 smartphone i used at the time had an awful mic, so i wouldn't judge any artist based on a video from it. he sounded great live

Hmm maybe the rest of the show sounded great, but this song did not. An "awful mic" doesn't cause you to butcher, waiver & cut notes short because you can't carry the tune live. Period. Believe me, I can tell that the mic you are using isn't great but the way he "cheats" through this song (perhaps to save his voice or perhaps because he cannot hit the notes consecutively live without studio edits) has nothing to do with the caliber of equipment used.

it's the smartphone it was recorded on. it was an LG G4, which i personally found to have awful audio recording at live events. he sounded great in person
