    Wow. This is such an informative video. When Charlie plays the P3 he sounds a lot like Wynton. Love Charlie's playing on all the horns!!!

    Charlie Porter has been my favorite trumpeter since I found him. When he plays his Monette he sounds like liquid gold poured down from heaven. What an incomparable master.

    Dave Monette walked into the shop where I worked as an instrument repairman in the early 1980's in Chicago. I helped him bore out a mouthpiece receiver for a prototype he was working on at the time. I had no idea who he was or who he would become. I still have an extra receiver he left behind as proof.

    Dave is a GREAT friend and I am so proud of what he has done. I was involved with training him many years ago and I knew he was special back then. He always wanted to know if he did a certain repair to the horn what would it do to the sound. He is and always will be a "special" person to me!

    Being a trumpet player myself and after meeting Wynton Marsalis in person and hearing him play on one of these is absolutely breath-taking. Luv the Raja P2, looking forward to buying one some day! My hats off to Monette, all I can say is WOW, genius level creations, keep up the great work!

    The P2 sounded like a Sax at the end. Means the player and the horn are pretty epic. I’ve wanted a Raja since 1990 something. Great job to both the maker and the player.

    I’m not a trumpet player and I never even heard of a Monette until tonight, when I saw Wynton on PBS NewsHour playing bits of and talking about The Democracy! Suite, his latest work. I’m listening, listening, listening, and the cameras are showing various shots, and then all of a sudden I’m looking at the horn and said - out loud - what the hell is that?! This unpolished horn that looks like it’s all one piece from mouthpiece to bell, just sounded so flawless. I had to look it up. I’m just blown away by these horns. Whether or not they even play, the design is just stunning. But, man! Do they play!

    We are currently working on updating our website, and the MB-111 will be added to our new horn catalog. The MB-111 is indeed based on a model from the 1980s. You can read our initial announcement about it here: facebook.com/monettetrumpets/posts/10154940425481260

    How would you describe the difference between an MB-111 and an old MC-61 (besides the obvious difference in key)?

  • @MonetteCorporation

    @MonetteCorporation

    3 жыл бұрын

    The MB-111 is a bit lighter than the old MC-61, which is on the heavier side, but it is similar in its basic layout and bell size. The way we make the MB-111 today is much different than the way the horns were made back in the 1980s, so the modern MB-111 benefits from 30+ years of improvements in just about every aspect of its construction. Thanks for your question!

    Very Informative , Interesting that Charlie and many others always use Bach as a reference when comparing other trumpets .

  • @illitrait

    @illitrait

    3 жыл бұрын

    ...that's probably because "Charlie and many others" were brought up to see Bach as a reference, inefficiencies and/or reality notwithstanding - and so the myths endure, aided by comparatively huge marketing budgets. The story usually differs with top-end brass designers and manufacturers who apply science to the art, though.

    @@illitraitthe Bach sound isn’t a myth, or is it? Too many great musicians use Bach, that’s Herb Albert and Chet Baker included. Just saying!

    My thought was a hattip to the Holton MF Firebirds that were built for Maynard Ferguson, particularly with regards to the slotting and range. Oh and also my inner 13-yr old thought MF stood for something entirely different!! 😆😁🤣😂😄😅

    The MF trumpets are so named because the original version was designed for and used by Maynard Ferguson. The MF is the lightest-weight Bb trumpet that we make.
