Charles Dickens: The Man That Asked for More [Full Movie]

Фильм және анимация

Charles Dickens: The Man That Asked for More is a biographical documentary about the great English novelist, Charles Dickens, the author responsible for creating classic stories like “Oliver Twist”, “Nicholas Nickleby”, “Great Expectations” and the holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol”.
Well into the 21st Century, his novels are still read widely and remain inspirational. When it comes to costume drama, with a touch of glamor, gritty realism and social conscience, Dickens has a message as resonant today.
Follow in the footsteps of Dickens, back to an age of romance, sentimentality and Victorian sensibility.
From humble beginnings in his birthplace in Portsmouth, to the luxurious elegance of Gad's Hill Place in Kent, experience a tour of the landscapes that truly inspired the great author. Colored with larger-than-life characters that teach us to laugh, cry and appreciate, whatever hand fate might deal.
At journey's end, finding the man behind the myths, the enjoyment of the great works of Charles Dickens will be enhanced.

For me David Copperfield is his best story following him through the troubled childhood to a young adult, the personal growth along the way, the way childhood characters return later as adults and the happy ending with Agnes are so satisfying. The Pickpapers, The Old Curosity Shop and Nicholas Nickleby have some of his funniest livelist and most imaginative characters and plots. Hard Times, Dombey and Son, Great Expectations and Our Mutual Friend have a bleaker tone and more ambiguous characters but also some bitting satire and more troubled love stories. A Christmas Carol is for me the most enjoyable read, short and punchy, it really drives its message home.

*"The Man Who Invented Christmas"* got me interested in reading, watching or listening to Dickens' stories. Learning that his life 'issues' (especially with his parents) influenced his writing of A Christmas Carol, and to some degree, Oliver Twist, has me curious about other stories and characters. Thanks for sharing the mini-documentary of a writer for those who love telling true to life stories.

I agree with G.B.S. that it is hard to distinguish which of Dickens' works is his greatest- because the are all great. But, my personal favorite will always be the Pickwick Papers.

I just watched a Walk documentary on BBC and it was based on him and his life. With an interest in writing myself and Having won The Literature price near my final year in secondary school based on some of his works, I was interested in any movie about him. Read quite a bit on Wikipedia about him, his loves, and his 10 children. (4/6/2023.) .

Staple, pronounced that way and not "Stapple", is situated on one of the straightest stretches of track in the UK; the picture rather misleading. A tragedy where a work team had actually removed a length of rail. I agree about the music being mostly inappropriate but otherwise thanks, most enjoyable.

A terrible pedestrian commentary..he simply avoids any intelligent analysis of Bleak House which is Dickens most complex and profound novel..it's all gungho! for Great Expectations as is rightly expected but his comments are really rather glib.
