Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol - Audio Drama

A Christmas Carol, is a novella by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall in 1843 and illustrated by John Leech.
A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
This production of 'A Christmas Carol' is bought to you by Studio Severn and all the artists involved are unpaid and the production gains no money whatsoever. This has all been made in the true spirit of Christmas.
It is an adaptation of the 1939, radio play starring Lionel Barrymore, whom some say is the best and only Ebeneezer Scrooge.

I don't often listen to audiobooks, but I have found that full or partial cast reads are always much better than solo narration in my opinion. I listened to this as I worked on some Christmas Carol themed artwork I've started this week.

There is a difference to this though in that it isn't an audio book. This is a full cast audio drama. There is a huge difference between the two mediums. An audio book is normally a straight narration with someone reading the actual book. These may sometimes have the narrator plus one or two more people doing the voices. A full cast audio drama such as this is a radio play like you would see at a theater. It involves many actors, sound effects etc to bring a story alive. Either way I'm so glad you listened and hope you enjoyed it. Next year we have a new Christmas production that will be huge also

37:05 Fezziwig in the book says, "Chirrup, Ebenezer!" This does not mean "cheer up," it's an onomatopoeic word based on the chirruping of a bird. It's just Fezziwig being ebullient. Besides, with Fezziwig about, nobody needs cheering up! 🙂

Which is what it tells you It's an adaptation of that 1939 script. There are a few slight changes and a couple of added bits that we felt needed to be added that weren't in that script. One of the best condensed versions of A Christmas Carol there is. Thanks for listening :)

The 12/24/39 'A Christmas Carol' has always been my favorite audio version and Lionel Barrymore has always been 'Scrooge'. It will be nice to listen to it with an actual Brit cast. I'm about ten minutes into the show now. Your 'Scrooge' is convincing, but so far I still prefer Barrymore.
