Character Class at The Bolshoi Ballet Academy | The Importance of Character | VeganOnPointe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I created this video to express the importance of character dance in one's classical training. This is a form of dance that has been lost and been rid of in North America over the years. It is very rare that you find character as part of one's classical training nowadays. The only true form of character training that I have received is at The Bolshoi Ballet Academy. In Russia character is still important and vital to dancer's training and performance.
I hope this video will inspire and bring more awareness about character dance and how integral it is to for ballet dancers!

From this I have recieved many inquiries about the academy, living in Russia, tips for improving ballet technique, Russian food and more!
I have created this youtube channel to answer all of your questions and share my experience at the academy with you.
I hope you all enjoy the vlogs as much as i absolutely enjoy being at the academy❤

I wish there are more character classes here online and it's frustrating to me . I personally love character and this definitely needs to be addressed

Its not often taught now 😮 our studio has a ballroom dance class that somewhat fills the gap left by this class, maybe try that out to help you too 👌☝️. They'll teach mazurka, polka, tango, etc. If you ask them to 😊 Most of the kids in our prepro division at the studio have to focus much more on modern and contemporary to be successful out there and we can't get to this stuff until they're much older and already a whole dancer ☝️👀. I took character when I was just starting at 15, but it stopped being a part of my classes and schools shortly after that in 2015 ish

This is a great video. It brings back memories of my Character Class back in the 1970's at American Ballet Theatre.

This is my first time to see a Vaganova student that isn't with the usual "thin" figure. Surprised and delighted. is this an exception or things are changing?

The interesting thing is that character dance is still widely taught (as a part of dance curriculum or on its own) in many dance schools/studios in Russia. If anyone has watched lezginka videos from weddings, e.g., you won't miss the signs of it. Btw, I was one of the kids who danced solo in character tarantella good thirty years ago on stages of my industrial Post-Soviet middle-of-nowhere😅

hi! first, I love this video! and then i wanted to ask if you might tell us a bit more precise what style/oirigine the exercises have? like tarantella, hungarian dance, oriental agagio, etc. would that be possible?

Hi guys I currently teach ballet 😊 id say of you cant fund character dance, a comprehensive ballroom dance education would be equally helpful 👀☝️👌 I took character and spanish dance as a teenager and I've never known smaller schools to still teach it in America. Its growing more and more obscure even though its 🔥🔥🔥

If you ever find Russian(or rather Post-Soviet) dance teachers - it's ninety percent guaranteed that they had character dance training as a part of comprehensive curriculum. We have a few studios in NL that teach character dance, but they are only known to local postsoviet crowd.

Images were not clear at all ! Did it convert from old VHS tape recording ? So, it must be very old recording in the 90. I feel the student's dancing uniform was trouble ugly as compare to Vaganova student's dresses.

What is wrong with Asian background students? There is plenty of character classes with Russians online. The point of this video is to share character classes barre , center and exam at Bolshoi by Russian teachers. If my experience is not delighting you, I am sorry! Find a Russian at Bolshoi who took the time to put their experience footage together and share it with the public.
