We are hydraulic manufacturer from China, brand name 'HANJIU'. Hydraulic orbit motors & hydraulic steering unit are our core products. At present, most popular Brands in Hydraulics are Danfoss, Char Lynn, M+S, HANJIU, each with its own merits, however the reason why more and more clients choose HANJIU is because it has obvious advantages over other brands in terms of delivery, service, quality and profit rate.

The gerotor at the back measures the volume of fluid pumped to provide proportioning. Automobile power steering systems still use mechanical feedback. You see there are there are 4 tabs linking the inner and outer sleeve that provide the spring action. The user turns the inner sleeve porting fluid to the steering ram, the fluid then pumps though the gyrator pump returning the outer sleeve to the neutral position once the user stops turning the wheel. It should also work with no fluid pressure.

Nice. It's always fascinating to look inside things to see how they work. Especialy when it's some technology you never come in contact with under normal conditions. As an electronics man, I know for sure I will not get in contact with hydraulics, but still interesting!

Those things are honed, jig-ground and centerless ground to tolerances measured within a fraction of a micron.

those 2 gears is called metering pump to control steering speed . this little valve you called grub screw for anti cavitation - diverting oil from return to supply in case high demand of oil . alignment is important by drawing single line on the whole valve. I stripped one before without alignment ,after assembly I try turning right , the whole wheel turn forcibly to the left. finally the whole thing is called orbit roll valve

If I turn left and try to steer right the wheels will keep going left but the steering wheel won't, I have to turn left to and then right to get it to catch again. Is this little box my problem???

I believe they made these for a while at a factory in Hutchinson, KS which is about thirty minutes from where I live. Right now they make mainly hydraulic motors and pumps- they make them of all sizes.

Yeah, they have 2-1/2 ton trucks where I live which have buffered diesel-electric drive. They have a 100% electric all-wheel drivetrain. A battery pack stores some electricity to help with acceleration, and the engine does the rest. It does help quite a bit for trucks which work all day in city traffic, otherwise it's not really worth it.

i have repaired many of these valves, if there not timed correctly and ur only a tooth out u can effectivly turn them in to a motor is pressure is applied to the correct port

they do make hydraulic motors with 4 ports on them! A port B port Swash plate control port (controls displacement of the motor) case drain port hell the dan foss lc/kc series have a 5th port for the brake control of the planetary hub it's bolted too

forklift steering valve. ive seen many of them from 2t -6t forklifts - works without pressure under emergency from memory

hmm looks like as the wheel is turned, it pumps the fluid, and the valve opens to let it to the steering cylinders, then when you stop turning, maybe that valve closes to prevent backflow. Interesting that human power seems to pump the fluid around. I don't think it's proportional, and relies on your cranking it to build pressure to move the steering. The valve just ports fluid depending on the direction you turn it.

Interesting piece, always wondered what was in those, Thanks Aussie. Look up Selsyn Control they use two motors connected together with wires and if you rotate one the other will follow. I have heard this system was used on submarine steering. ;)

Guessing the gerotor pump in the assembly is so you can have steering if the main hydraulic pump fails.

the electric systems are a waste of resources, but the Eaton hydraulic hybrid system looks good, it uses a pump/motor to recover energy under deceleration, and use it under acceleration.

Hey Ed, I remember seeing a video of yours quite a while back showing your air compressor setup. It would be interesting to see an updated vid of this. I have a couple small portable compressors that I've retrofitted with hermetic compressors from dehumidifiers after the cheap oilless compressors have failed.

Really clever design, so i suppose any movement of the wheel causes fluid to move from the rear pump and the rotation of the outer tube closes the ports off so it moves no more. Ish, sort of, guessing without mecanical qualifications :-) how ever it works its a great design, no wonder its expensive. Smashing dissasembly :-)

Oh, new computers and batteries every 5 years, you better not let my 2004 Toyota Prius hear, because that hasn't done any of those things. Also you should check your facts, because Toyota Australia offers a 8 year warranty on the battery. And those crappy computers manage the NiMh battery so well, it won't let it discharge below 40% SOC and won't let it charge over 80% SOC so it is one happy battery for quite a long time. The only thing giving me trouble on that car is the petrol engine.

  • @joeyf504327

hmmm. that actually sounds like a decent idea. but yeah hybrid cars are a waste of time and money as the computers go almost every 5 years, the batteries go shortly after plus to the average hybrid it weighs ATLEAST a 1,000 US lbs more than the none hybrid version!! how is that good for gas mileage!??!?! plus most of the hybrids cars are scrapped because no one wants to pay for a new computer and batteries they would just rather a new car. ugh ethanol and hybrids really piss me off
