yeah I thought exactly the same... But I'm surprised about what you said at the end.. It's great!
Mr Chang, you honor us with your amazing and thoughtful research. I can finally voice my opinion knowing what I'm talking about cause I am from Argentina, and all I can say is thank you. I feel like you really dug deep, and you got it, you got what we're about. And congrats to the team, you did incredible work. Love you guys!

I'm from the UK and I am doing a project on the history of the Argentine economy - the dramatic, tumultuous history of this country is so incredibly interesting. In 1914 its grain exports were second only to the USA and its economy far outranked that of France and Germany - yet by 2000, after 6 military coups and years of corruption and political-economic mismanagement it was on its knees. Yet Argentina's culture and landscape is so incredibly beautiful - I hope to visit it one day.

That's the reason millions Europeans emigrated there, it was a rich country, bad politics ruined it

Well, we will happy to receive your visit here. Unfortunately 6 military coups from 1930 to 1976 have consequences beyond the economy. They made the population to hug militarism and nationalism. Most people in society turned authoritarian and - the worst of all - xenophobic. The highlight of these irrational ideas was when an alcoholic dictator decided to create a senseless war in 1982 to save the reputation of the army. The people in Argentina ignore completely that Great Britain tried several times to make an arrangement for Malvinas (Falklands) between 1966 and 1974. The cost of ignorance lead 90% of population to agree with that stupid war. The dictatorship sent young and rookie soldiers to die of hunger and cold; the result was obvious. Since then exist a strong sense of disdain for the british people. I borned in Buenos Aires and I always lived in Argentina, but I often receive insults from my own compatriots... just because I don't agree with the war. I hope one day we all take a deep look into our past to understand what kind of ideas the dictatorship and corrupt presidents taught to citizens.

Pichi W The Falklands/Malvinas War was, as you say, senseless. The corruption of the Argentinian government is something that seems to come in cycles - those who come to 'save' the country from a dictatorship often become the dictators themselves. I do think education is the key - to really question, rationally, the ideas instilled by a populist or military government.

Katyuska Princich you are totally right. Its true that even when the acts in school happen(25 De mayo, 9 de Julio, la semana De la tradicion, etc) there was always this speech that had to say 'We have to get back our land, take it from those one who stole what belonged to us. The British and the Americans are the enemy' Now that I'm older, I realize how this... patriotism(if we can call it that way) is so contaminated. I'm glad I finished high school bcoz I was sick of listening 'oh, but you shouldnt learn english or want travel to England/USA, the language/country of the capitalism and oppress.' Like wtf? We should be more worry about how we 'fall' into public education (how our dear and lovely President said) than throwing shade.
I really wanna say thank you for been so respectful and understanding about our tumultuous history. Awesome KZread channel.

How are you respectful over a history?? 😂😂😂 Man history is history
As an Argentinian I´m so happy and thankful for this video, I´m really impress on how much research took place. An excellent work
I know I'm commenting late, but I thought this was an amazing description of Argentina and it's history. I've lived here for 5 years while studying economics (because of its economic turmoil, this place is a GREAT place to watch economics in action). However, the only thing I wanted to add in is that the Falklands War was brought on by the government because, at the time, it was losing the support of the people and it wanted to spur on nationalistic fervor to help garner support. The islands are also extremely important geopolitically because of their location near Antartica and their proximity to Argentina. Additionally, they are a rich source of fishing grounds and oil/gas.

Myar692 what you are saying about the military dictatorship on falkland's war is correct but let me tell you that Margaret Thatcher did the same thing. She was going through a critical time . And she used the war to gain support of the people. The difference is that she won. Thanks to that fact, the military board lost their power and finally the dictatorship finished.
Creo que lloré un poquito... I think I cried a little bit...
Damn Chan, back at it again with the quality content and information!
A tear fell when abuelas de plaza de Mayo showed up
The Falkland islands have great geopolitical importance for being a gateway to Antarctica (even though both countries signed the Antartic Treaty) as well as natural resources (mainly oil en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkland_Oil_and_Gas?wprov=sfla1 )
DO ARGENTINIAN MEN PLEASE!
The ability to research, process, and transform into visuals is admirable! I want to hear more from Chan!
You're a very well worded, eloquent man! Thank you for showing the pure" duende" of the country I love. 🇦🇷❤️
As a "porteña", I must admit that you've done a great job. Thank u for being this respectful with our country.
I like that look of Evita in the 1940's portion of this research video it makes me sort of think of her singing the Don't Cry For Me Argentina number in the Evita musical.
Is Mariela argentinian? she looks and acts SO argentinian... if she isnt she deserves an oscar

Great job Chris, you made a perfect crash course into Argentinian history of the 20th century.
this is amazing!!!! as an argentinian girl , i can assure you did great research on this. well done!!!!!!!
I never heard of Duende, but is more a concept in Spanish (Spain) arts, that's why i never heard of it. While García Lorca brought it to Argentina by his lectures, it is not a term very Latin American. Well i have just 23 years old so, i'm not that qualified to discuss the topic XD

Yeah, it's a term generally used in flamenco here in Spain, specifically in Andalusia.

It's from Spain, not used in Argentina. But pay attention to people and ads, we have used "Angel" as a synonim. "Esa chica tiene mucho angel", habia una publicidad de una gaseosa o algo tambien que lo usaba el concepto.
I'm currently taking geological engineering major yet I'm so freaking fascinated by anthropology, archaeology, and history (western countries, east asia, india, and middle east history to be precise). And this video is really amazing. Thanks for bringing back research behind the 100 Years of Beauty video!
This was incredible, guys. You really did well!
Thanks for doing this, all of you did a great job representing the beauty of Argentina, I got a bit emotional in the 70s and the part where they talked about the Falkland Islands
this is what i look forward after 100 years of beauty vids. the research behind it. i'm not an argentinian but well done!
I'm just binge watching all of Chan's videos. I find his intelligence and speech just really charming and sexy.
As an Argentine woman, I think the video was great and I thank you and al your team for the research you've done. Excelent job!
It would be awesome if you make a Chanthropology video about Brazil. Over here, we thought it was weird a red hair girl rather then a girl with black skin.

Could you do Australian beauty? Aboriginal and European Australian
we argentines did manage to fulfill the goals we had for our country at the turn of the century, even becoming the seventh wealthiest nation in the world, so it's not like political unrest and economic disasters are all that would happen in later years. it's a pity you kind of left that detail out, especially since you mentioned the importance of the past; that era is a highly relevant part of our history and it heavily shaped our culture. aside from that, it's a good video.
I would love for you to make a 100 years of beauty in Peru!
Do one about Chile!

I noticed throughout these 100 years of beauty and research videos, that no matter what country it is, the country goes through a bad time, like, Philippines - Martial Law Ireland - Bloody Sunday Argentina - coup? America. -You know! and other countries
