Ойын-сауық

From Coco Chanel's "La Garçonne" boyish French flapper look of the 1920s and Elsa Schiaparelli's 1930s Surrealist looks, to Christian Dior's New Look in the 1950s and André Courrèges' space-age mod fashion, take a look back at the last century of French fashion.

    Schiaparelli was Italian not French. She was actually the nemesis of Coco Chanel. Compared to Cut’s 100 Years of French Beauty, this isn’t accurate. During the 1930s and 1940s France was affected by WWII, so their style became less luxurious in order to send fabric to the front lines.

    I don't think this was accurate. First, that cloche in the 1920s looked more like british guards hat than a cloche. Second, the New Look came after the war, in the 50s it became popular. Third, the stripes were introduced by Chanel in the 20s, not in the 50s. Fourth, you didn't mention the Chanel suit in the 60s, that influenced a lot of celebrities that time, such as Jackie O. Fifth, you also didn't mention Saint Laurent famous androgynous look in the 70s, with the female smoking/tuxedo. Sixth, that crab thing in the 30s was ridiculous.

  • @Veronensis

    I agree with you on almost all of your points, but technically they were correct by placing the new look in the 1940's, as the fashion show where Dior presented this look for the first time was in 1947 to be exact. But the style only became popular in the 1950's, so I don't think the look represents the 40's well. And the dress they used to represent the new look was quite bad I think. way too short and clearly not worn with the proper undergarments

  • @carolinesa91

    @carolinesa91

    Ilse yes, I agree. I don't think that the New Look represents the 40s, since it appeared in the end of the decade and just became popular in the 50s. For the 40s they should've chosen a more simple garment, since during the war the clothes were simple and with less fabric.

La mode c’est pas ce qu’on voit dans tous les coins de rue, mais plutôt les inspirations artistiques venant de véritables professionnels. Donc oui, les dernières décennies évoquées reflètent bien la mode française.

  • @camillebourasseau5539
    @camillebourasseau55396 жыл бұрын

    Wish this would have been more accurate... You can't talk about Fashion in the country of Fashion without some researches ! WTF is this cloche hat shaped like ?? Schiaparelli wasn't only inspired by Dali, they actually worked together, she's italian, not French, and while she is a hudge reference in fashion history today, her style was totally avant-garde and really different at the time, only a few people would wore Schiaparelli's designs so it wasn't the major trend at all. 30's French fashion was for the most part more dull and classic, becaus it was a time of financial crisis, right after WWI, and with WWII starting at the end of the decade. Dior's New look was a big trend but only came out in the late 40's and was really very popular in the early 50's, because during WWII the outifts were really sober and modest, there was a big fabric penury. It was still pretty unusual for a women to wear pants in the 50's. Sure it started to be seen on some movies but most of the 50's, French fashion was all about Dior's New look, and elegant and expensive clothes. After the war, women wanted to feel more feminin and buy dresses made with a lot of fabric. This is a 60's look that was only seen in the magazines, but not that bad bc the big tren was to wear clothes inspired by Courrege, only less futuristics. The 70's was really the decade to introduce women's pants, like with Yves Saint Laurent's famous androgynous suit. Alaia was a very talented designer, but I feel like Thierry Mugler's style sum up the decade better, as it is really representative of the empowerment of the working woman in the 80's. After that this is rich pepole 90's fashion but why not.. For a more casual look, it was either minimalist or sportswear. The 2000 is accurate but kinda boring. The early 2000's were so blingbling ! It was also the decade of the cult of brands and logos.

    2010s Parisian Woman you see in fashion would be like 2000s, with a pump instead of a flat, and a structured bag. This whole very inacurate, and French fashion isn't just designer. Besides some looks presented on the model look nothing like the pictures

    French clothes have always stood out to any of the other clothes I wear. I begged my mom to let me get a beret and she is finally letting me get one! I think that they all stood out to me is because none of my friends or anybody I went to school with had them.

    1. This is not correct. Fashion in France was more different than this. 2. Why there is 80% asians? Excuse me but in 1900 (and after) asians didn’t live in France. Ofc some but not that much and it was very weird for people.
