On September 30, 2023; Inchcape Philippines (local distributor of Changan) introduced the all-new 2024 Changan X7 Plus to the Philippine market in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City. After that, they held a week-long (Oct 1-7) car display and offered the opportunities to test drive some of their products too! One of the vehicles available for test drive was this 2024 UNI-K. Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The Changan Uni-K's exterior design looks really modern and high-end w/ its use of sharp lines and thin LED lights. It also has a bit of a sporty look especially at the rear, with its quad exhausts. The door handles that go into the door when the car is locked gives the side profile a clean look. Moving over into the inside, one would notice the high quality materials used in the various surfaces. The car seats inside are all very comfortable and are clothed in high quality leather. This car is also well-equipped w/ tech features such as a high-quality Sony sound system. It also has 3 different screens (speedometer, driving info, and the infotainment) and a small information panel that shows tire pressure and the AWD system. In sport mode, the driving info shows a g-force meter, which is a cool touch that adds a sporty feel to the drive. A switch on the steering wheel may be clicked to turn on the rear-facing camera (angle is similar to the rear view mirror, but the video feed shows up on the driving info screen). All the cameras of this car is of good quality and the 3D mode of the 360-degree camera is smoother than the UNI-K's. The interior has some large storage spaces though, like the one under the center console, which can literally fit a DSLR camera.
The turbocharged engine of this vehicle really makes good power to propel this car forward. It is very responsive, especially in sport mode; while in normal and eco mode, it provides for a smooth driving experience. Power may be sent to all four wheels or only the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic. The AWD switch may be used to choose between two-wheel drive (2WD), automatic, and four-wheel drive (4WD) lock. The transmission responds well enough to inputs in manual mode (some delay when downshifting, though) and shifts smoothly in automatic mode. Both of its gas and brake pedals respond well enough to the driver's inputs. When turning, one would feel that this car's steering is nicely weighted in sport mode, which is the best mode for the steering assist because it provides for the most feel. The other two modes may be used if one would prefer a lighter feel. The suspension & chassis provide for a comfortable ride even over uneven surfaces, as well as good stability when driving enthusiastically. Overall though, this UNI-K feels wider than the UNI-T (because it is), which might make some prefer that over this car. This could mean that the UNI-T would be easier to maneuver around tight spaces.
