I just purchased my first Chanel no 5 and I wish I hadn’t listened to the negative reviews from people who obviously do not care for the scent. It’s absolutely beautiful and works so well with my skin, it smells very sweet and musky (in the good way) on me when I expected only soapy aldehydes, it is so much more than its top notes! It was my grandmother’s scent so its now very special to me.

Wow wow wow what a fruitful review. When I decided to buy my first Chanel No 5, this was one of the many reviews I watched but I watched it until the movie part. Today I watch the rest of it and I love the sun metaphor. It really is like the sun. I think people should watch this video to appreciate the perfume. This tells us a story and more you know it more you love it. I should say this one chooses person and time. I wear it one day, it smells like a bouqet, the other day it smells nostalgia and the other day it smells baby powder. This is incredible ! Go for it, try it at least twice. When I first smelled it, I was disappointed. It seemed very old fashioned. Then I tried again and I loved it. Now every time I use it, I fall in love with it more and more.

My dad bought this for my mother every Christmas No. 5 is all my mom used and mom told me years ago when she was up in age . I asked mom what so special about No.5 mother. Mom looked at me and said once you use it you will understand how beautiful it is when having it on. Mom said no5 is a special smell and everyone will say if they come next to you that that smell is so nice Mom started wearing Channel no. 5 when Elva Mary Downes my mother went to Paris when she was a young lady in her twenties and channel no. 5 went everywhere with her. Now when my mom passed I put a little on her cheeks in the casket. Only you know this after reading this. Thankyou mom you always smelled like the fragrance only channel can bring. Thankyou mom and youngster’s if you don’t know go give it a try ..

Chanel 19 is my fragrance but you have convinced me that I need to have a complete wardrobe of chanels..Im in my 60's now and why have I not worn no 5?? Im awaiting a 100ml bottle of the eau de parfum and just bought my first bar of the soap. What an amazing scent. Yes...Chanel should be paying you or at least gifting you their products. You are truly unparalleled in your amazing descriptions.

Dacob always the most thorough, knowledgeable and passionate Chanel lover on YT:) I actually love Chanel N.5 and wear it regularly especially the edt coz its easy to pull off:) but when i want to "introduce" my friends to N.5 , i now always make them smell the EDP first; because their noses are accustomed to more bold scents and the nuanced fragile gorgeous edt fell flat on numerous of them. But the edp? everyone who tried it (mostly male friends:) was like wow! this is so different and deep and smells "golden" and different (they're used to male generic scents so duh N.5 edp is like an alien. Ok now time to resume watching your awesome review! xoxo

Ordered No 5 EDP & No 5 L’eau (blind buy) online & just received them a few hours ago. I’m absolutely loving L’eau which I know I’ll be wearing constantly once Spring arrives. No 5 EDP has always been to me one of the most unique fragrances. I wore it in my early 20s, so I don’t necessarily think you need to be “mature” to enjoy it. Being older now I find it to be an even more refined scent then I remembered it to be. I really don’t understand how anyone could dislike it. I’ve sprayed my wrists & literally cannot stop smelling them. . Heavenly! I guess I’m fortunate it works with my body’s chemistry.!

I have only ever bought the EDP. I will try putting it in the sun. I like using those pocket sprayers for L'EAU. Because it is not so lasting, it is nice to carry it around. Thank you for the video. it is an epic review. Thank you for creating it!

Chanel No5 is for the fragrance experienced. When I say the word perfume, Chanel No5 is the vision. Perfection.

My favourite version. I was a teenager when EDP was released and I am very much into the 80es (bad) taste, lol. I can wear it anytime in the year but love it in December too. Feel also related to it because fan of Chanel universe and born on may the 25th 71...

Finally!!! Now we got the EDP review along with the previously released EDT and Parfum reviews. The elusive dream in a bottle! 🤩🏆✨

I love the Body cream which is real magic and the EDP No 5 it is so classic but at the same Avant Garde as Dacob stated correctly. It is a masterpiece and a must have for Chanel lovers. 100%

Dacob, I love this review! It’s funny you associated the EdP with that movie. I always associated it with Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan and The Last Days Of Disco, if we’re associating No 5. with America; if France, I’d say Irène Jacob’s in Three Colours: Red/Rouge. I have 3 bottles of the EdP, my favorite concentration. The drydown with the sandalwood and vanilla! Heaven! I love the (2015) Premiere too because of the sandalwood vanilla but it’s abstract and minimalist at the same time, if that makes sense. Unfortunately, after trying the EdP, Eau Premiere, Egöiste, and Bois Des Iles I’ve recognized the signature vanilla and sandalwood. Bois Des Iles is the best of them, second is the EdP in my opinion. I see no point in wearing Egöiste if you own Bois Des Iles. That Ylang-Ylang is just so good in N.5 and Bois Des Iles! You should try Chameleon by Zoologist, Dacob! Extremely realistic to the essential oil and especially good for niche. Tyrannosaurus Rex BLEW me away. Smells like the earth being hit by the meteor and all life flees for its life as the world burns. Lava rocks is what I associate with it. Back to N.5 however… Sadly I cannot stand the EdT. Something about it turns me off in the opening and it persists throughout the journey. It’s kind of in the Parfum but not at all in the other concentrations. Wonder what note it is. Like a staleness. Last thing: my N.5 Red bottle EdP smells a bit different from my refillable 1.7 Oz. I’m not talking performance, I mean I get a violet note! Bizarre! Maybe I’ll put it in the sun and it will mellow out, or spray it more so more oxygen gets in. I’ve heard of people buying new fragrances and spraying 20 times before using so it can breathe. I have several vintage bottles of no. 5. They smell like I remember no. 5 smelling in the 70s, delicious. I agree with you about the EDP smelling better after it has aged. I have not put mine in the sun, but I would bet it the sun speeds up the process. I’ll have to try it with a newer bottle.

I love how you speak of a perfume's character. You are a true artist! ☺ I remember being mesmerized by the #5 ads from the 80's. At the time, I was a young woman in my early 20's, making $2.75 an hour, and #5 was an impossibility on my budget. But about 3 years ago, at the age of 59, I started dabbling in perfumes again. At first, I tried going all around #5 EDP. I started with Coco Mademoiselle, then Gabrielle Essence, then Chance, then #5 Lieu. I do love them all. But I was afraid to commit to #5. It was the holy grail. I wasn't sure I deserved something so iconic... so priceless. I was afraid it wouldn't like me, or I wouldn't like it, and the disappointment after nearly 40 years of waiting...would be too much . After about 3 years of trying dozens of other perfumes, I finally bit the bullet and purchased my first bottle of Chanel #5, EDP. I wasn't afraid of smelling like a Granny, because after all this time, I AM a Granny, lol! I am in love. It is the PERFECT time in my life for Chanel #5. I have grown into it. I don't even wear it out...my other perfumes are for that. I wear it at home, when I'm alone, just for me. How extravagant is that? It's my own intimate, private, companion. As you say...it is both mysterious, almost ethereal, but HOME, all at once. ❤

I just got a decant of a 2007 bottle. Wow, so different from the EDT and Parfum! It's so warm and fruity to my nose. The aldehydes in my vintage No.5 EDT and parfum remind me of ice crystals- not so with the EDP, where the aldehydes are like champagne bubbles hitting the bright sunshine.

Hi! Just discover your channel! ( sorry for my English, french Quebec girl here 😉). Chanel no5 is a star for me. That was the perfume my grand-maman wear all her life. My husband just bought me the parfum ( extrait). This is heaven in a bottle. But I find that it doesnt last on my skin for more than 2 hours. Do you think EDP last longer and is more volatile? I'm scare to find a fragrance that is too strong and not delicate, " fragile" and classy like the perfume. Thank you ❤ thay review is like a good book, just want it to continu.

I certainly need that gigantic (though not gigantic enough) bottle of chanel no 5. Always struggle with 100ml bottles running out way too quickly. 😂😅 Out of this world review as always ❤️

I’ve had every version of no. 5. Eau de cologne, Eau de toilette, Eau de Parfum, and Parfum. The Eau de Parfum is by far the best and my favorite.

I just left it by sunlight for two days and now the smell is stronger lol.

It's my first bottle perfume I purchased when Brad Pitt promoted this n I am male. It's weird but I love it as it settled

I consider, like alot of people, that Chanel #5 is the GOAT of perfumes. There are many beautiful classics around and beautiful new perfumes out now but, of the perfumes, #5 sits at the top. Like you, my EDP of Chanel #5 is almost out. But, I still put it in the window to soak up sun as suggested. But, it is still in the 40s around here so..... My sister gave me Chanel #5 Premire. It smells lke my EDP but, a bit lighter. A bit lighter hearted. The one thing with #5 on me is that I get the powdery scent when I first spray it on and then it leaves in a minute or so. I do get the Jasmine, which is one reason I love it. But, after it settles to me it is got this warmth. This gorgeous scent but, also this warmth to it. And like walking down the sidewalk with friends wearing the uneven hemmed sleeveless dress and cloche hat (and sometimes I wish I was as it looked to be a good decade.)

The EDP is still on my list, too many unexpected expenses these past months... the mini sprays are unfortunately unavailable where I am BUT i am eying that HUGE 200ml bottle, n'5 with BIG sholderpads! It does remain quite soft. I understand exactly what you mean that the pure parfum should not be exposed to the sunlight because it shines the most when its light. The testers of the EDP are also light and fresh however I am of the opinion that it needs to be heavier and stickier, I cannot wait to obtain that bottle and age it and see what happens! Funny how I couldn't understand the red edition bottle, but upon sniffing it recently i get vivid reddish-magenta powdery hues. So the red edition is no surprise really. Wish I could sniff that 10 year old one you have.. must smell devine...Ahhh if smellovision was possible....

To me the red bottle edition smells the same as the regular edition of N°5... maybe its all a mind game cuz the bottle is red so we think it smells warmer or something like that? Just like fruit loops all taste the same but we think they all taste different cuz they are in different colors?

Hey Dacob, I have a question about this one, or more so an opinion from you I would say. I purchased a fairly new bottle of the EDP concentration of N°5 back in March this year. It is a gorgeous concoction, no doubt in it, I mean it's N°5 duhh. However.. somehow it is not how I remember this concentration.. I remember my grandma had a bottle of the EDP, and whenever I went to visit her I would always take a sniff from the bottle, years back.. What's even more weird is that a friend of mine had it a few years back and I clearly remember how it took me on a trip to my childhood as soon as I smelt it.. anyways, she used up that bottle and got another one last year. It was not the same scent that I remember. That same thing happened with my newly acquired bottle of it.. I also have the vintage pure parfum, which somehow, in the opening, it bursts the aldehydes the same way this one does but way more rich and textured and they both dry down to the most creamy and delicious base of the N°5 that we all know and love.. My question is, do you think reformulation might be the factor here? Or does it have to do something with the different batches throughout the years?

Hello, I recently came across chanel n.5 L’eau and I LOVE IT. I bought the 50 ml version straight away. Now that I love L’eau, I would like to buy the EDP version but I’m scared it will be too overpowering or give me a headache. Do you think I could love the EDP given that I wear the “L’eau” regularly? I think you will love it. I was the same but as I spray it eventually your senses get used to the smell and won’t even realise you are wearing it but others can smell it. And I think it’s completely gone but people always say I smell nice so it’s a good indicator it goes well with my body chemistry. Get it you won’t regret it!

I could listen to you talk about Chanel 5 for hours...

Did Chanel very recently increase the price of their perfumes, including Les Exclusifs? I remember first buying Coromandel and Gardenia for $250 long ago, then it went up to $350, now I just looked and they are $400? My issue though is that they ruined the EDT when they reformulated the entire line to EDP... Coromandel is absolutely not the same anymore.

I'm very sad. Now it is too expensive for me. I like chanel parfum. I have coco mademoiselle and Chance eau vive. I looked for no 5 five eau première and chance eau fraîche.

I have since purchased the EDP, in the twist and spray version, following your suggestion, i left my half-full vial exposed to a 8 o clock winter sun, twice for about a total not exceeding 1,5hrs at most.....the powdery, aldehydic top notes are gone....the 'Party, party party!'is over....at least for you...you are in the bathroom, the champagne high stopped kicking, you powder your nose, touch up your lips, sober up and question your existence before you return back to the party guests.

The soapiness are the aldehydes and they are the main pillar of all N°5 iterations. However they are more tamed in the extrait.

Let me tell you a bit about the 80s. First of all, the 70s were copied in the 90s. They did the late 60s and 70s. They even tried to bring back bell bottoms and platforms. The 80s copied the 40s, 50s and early 60s. Perfumes like Chanel #5 were very popular. Fragrance before the mid to late 60s were much stronger. and not just in content but, the scent itself. In the 80s you had in your face perfumes like Giorgio and Poison. Strong perfumes. So naturally the vintage perfumes first became cult favs and then big with the younger women. They were not viewed as grandma. They were seen as elegant, refined, classy and glamorous. They carried a mystique about them. It was so big that they brought back in limited editions perfumes like Normandy. Patou other fragrances outside of Joy revived. Guerlain's Shalimar became big that decade as well as other Guerlain vintage scents. And these fragrances were strong enough to carry an edt for hours, let alone edp. The matte makeup mimiced the great movies and fashion models of the 40s and 50s. Unlike many think, the makeup was not all pastel. Actually most of it was varied in colors, and went from pale to deep. They were also easy to work with and blend. Brushes were big for blending and softening. It was not chalky pastels, but, of course there were pastel colors just like now. The 80s was llke golden age movie star meets the Riviera meets big money.
