Great review! I finally tried it today! It reminds me a lot of Apres Londee by gurlain and a bit of L’heur blue as well. It is like a sweeter more powdery version of both. I am wondering what is the ingredient here that reminds me of the guerlain, do they have common ingrediants?

When you say simplicity, I remember the first time I smelled N° 5 L'eau. It's simple, yet there is an elegant complexity in its freshness .

Hi again Dacob! Update: I bought the 200ML Comete today! I went in 2 days in a row and sprayed and sniffed and it wore on my skin for 12hrs! I really wanted to see how the top, mid and base notes developed and smelt on my skin. I did enjoy it on first "bubbly aldehyde" spray, but the way it changed and sat beautiful on the dry down was simply dreamy!! I went in and bought it today, first thing ( Tuesday), I was going to go to the Chanel Beauty Boutique, but hadn't had great customer service with them the last few times, so went into Chanel Myer Melb and it cost $630.00 AUD 😮, but got it for $570.00 because they had a "Spend $500.00 and get a $50.00 gift card" promotion thingy, so did that, and with points it was cheaper- woo hoo! Still pricey, but it felt better for me after that price increase. Got it beautifully gift wrapped and tied with the lovely pink and orange ribbon, and even put in the now rare big gorgeous white Chanel bags. Also got a couple of Comete samples, so this gal is very happy! I really love it!! I found a spray on each wrist, and one on the back of my neck ( to leave a comete trail) the right amount for me!!! I can understand your excitement, I feel exactly the same. This perfume came at exactly the right time for me. 🎉❤❤❤

I hate I missed the pre show review but I love your interpretations of the fragrance! I wanted to go today to visit my SA and now I’m so excited!!!! I love a gourmand scent! If Chanel finally made one that comes close, then I’ll definitely have to purchase it. I suffer from migraines and the perfume must agree with me. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

I love the dark crystal too and I also love the tv series. Such a shame Netflix cancelled the show after the first season. To me the movie Dark Crystal is more like the perfume “Tubereuse Criminelle” by Serge Lutens… if we were to connect the perfume to the Skeksis vibes… but if were were to connect the perfume to the planet Thra, then maybe Comete would be more appropriate… 😉💫✨

Olivier does have a tendency (at least for me and just in my opinion) to warm up in a too fuzzy way the perfumes sometimes and I don’t particularly care for that in Chanel perfumes. Its kind of his signature… alas…

I finally tried it. I totally agree that this is far more complex than the opening almond blast would initially suggest, and I did get stardust vibes in the drydown. It was also giving old Hollywood vibes to me for reasons I couldn't put my finger on. Having said that it didn't move me in the way the very best Chanel perfumes do... Cristalle, No.5, No.19, Bel Respiro etc all hit me like a knife to the heart emotionally, this doesn't do that, for better or worse. I did find it very beautiful though.

Your celestial background reminds me of Lagerfeld's Sun Moon Stars commercial with Daryl Hannah. 1994. It was my favorite back then. ❤❤ ☀️🌜⭐️🌠🌌🪐💫

My sister just sent me a sample from her trip to Paris to the Chanel boutique. I’m trying my sample as you are trying it…I’m doing the same. My first impression is this is a Christmas Holiday perfume in a snowy cold climate. It reminds me of a house filled with fresh Christmas trees, cookies, and London broil cooking in the air & a huge fire crackling in the fireplace. The doorbell rings & you open the front door to greet your guest, the strong wind blows freezing cold air in & swirling snow dust your entry way as it follows your guests in the door & melts on the marble as quickly as the door closes. Everyone is filled with the Holiday spirit. Lots of warm feelings. Kiss kiss. My sister is bringing me back some perfume from Paris, tomorrow & I have to choose from the samples. I was looking for Cristalle & 19 for the summer. Something cool & refreshing. Leaning toward Cristalle, but this new fragrance, Comete, is a story onto itself. Its final dry down is lovely. Enveloping coziness. I had it on my arm last night & kept sniffing it, thinking this is warm like a hug. Not for summer in the South. Watching you & testing my sample is like an interactive experience. So delightful. I get the barnyard vibe. Stables in the winter. The hay & woodchips. Catholic Church Christmas mass, incense. I’m a Chanel 22 & Beige. Last night I was enjoying it. I was an Opium & Poison wearer long ago & faraway. And Vivienne Westwood. So I truly love your videos. I feel like I relate to your perfume history. Comete is a little like Boucheron. Comete has tenacity. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. It does have an amazing vibe…but not sure it’s me now. I’m more in a Cristalle state of mind. The OG Cristalle with the bite & the ashtray. 🥰😘 Thank you for your videos. Great interpretations of fragrances. What fun!🎉🎉🎉

Thank you dear. This perfume borderlines to sickly sweet but never gets there, it borders to bitter almond but never gets fully bitter… it teases a lot but remains in its own lane, classically elegant like a true chanel. But still, when it goes into the sickly sweet direction on the skin, it can get annoying in a way until it shifts gears again. Not a blind buy in my opinion. But nevertheless a beautiful creation.

I’ve been waiting for this with bated breath, darling. I’m as excited about your review as I am about the perfume itself!! As soon as you said ‘dense’ I thought ‘A bottle will be with me on release date.’ (I wonder when that is in the UK?) I didn’t want just a straightforward, spring floral which is how Fragrantica kind of make it sound. I wanted a COMETE and it sounds like we get one. Loads of love, as always. Hi Dacob, I just got mine over the weekend. It is exactly as you described. The almond is a lot! I do love how it goes from hard to soft 🤣😂 should it be the other way around 😉 As it warms up on me and dries down, its gorgeousness is truly eminent! OMG I also got the Gardenia L’huile and ooohhh ahhh dahling it’s soo… Goood!! 🤗😘❤️

Its worth a sniff or two for sure but I believe it is not for everyone. The smell is not easy to love.

Hi Dacob, how are you doing?❤ I'm quite curious about this new release, not managing to get what it is about 🤔 , but my point is: I can take the lack of projection and longevity from Paris Venise, or Cristalle. But as soon as they charge you 500 bucks for a bottle, I'm getting tacky 😅 I'll definitely give this comete a try, but, I know I'm not going to buy it. Thank you for this video! 😊😘🤩

Seriously though… these other perfume houses need to slow their roll with releases. No more than one a quarter maybe 2 a year. Its out of control!

I agree, and actually I am happy to get one new release every year or two. Makes it more special and magical for me. It also gives me more time to discover and appreciate the perfume that was just released, without putting pressure on me to already have to run out and buy yet another new release just a month after this release. I like to have time to let a perfume simmer and talk to me. Its a very long process, hence why I do not buy many new perfumes. I need a lot of time to let a perfume really open up to me. And I take that time too. Time is the biggest luxury and I take it. 💖💫🌅

Thank you for the tip but I really do not like oud. Very difficult for me to like it.

Dacob- If I were to say one descriptor that ties the traditional Chanel fragrances together is a certain waxiness. Do you know what I’m trying to say? You used the word “buttery,” which might be what I’m trying to say. Is there a waxy quality to this new one? Great first impression and analysis, as usual! Great job!

Hmm… waxiness… I think I know what you mean… maybe at a certain point it has that quality… but perhaps more resinous than waxy. Or maybe a bit of both properties together.

Hey Dacob, I recently found an old No. 5 extrait probably from the 1960's but it has a sticker on the shrink wrap that says T.S.S.A. Could you tell me what that means?

I get a lot of Iris, aldehydes, and bitter almonds in this, but don't fine it sweet. It has a strong Chanel DNA, but sadly it does not last long on me at all!

Thank you melanieng 🙏🏻💖 Yep, indeed, Chanel actually probably felt the need (and I am just speculating here) to have to keep up with the price range other niche and luxury perfume houses demanded for their fragrances, in order to not be perceived as lesser than. Allegedly.

Hi Dacob, do you know how this compares to a Celine Dans Paris type of sent? It's also a very heliotrope and musk type of affair...Any idea of when this will be out in the EU? Still no word in Italy, the sales assistants are treating this as if it's the second coming of Christ and no word on a date.

It smells luxurious

I have two 75ml with batch code 9401 and one 200ml batch code 9502. Comete has been on sale, officially, in the US for less than a month and world wide less than six months. That's three batch codes, including the samples, released already. Is Chanel churring out batches that rapidly?

Don’t forget that this perfume was supposed to be launched last year originally… they might have had also some stock waiting to be distributed for a bit longer… plus its not uncommon to have a few batch codes for the world release if the batch codes vary so slightly.

Dacob, what a wonderful informative yet poetic review. As regards bling buying - currently Chanel Europe (at least my country's website) offers to send a sample of Comente with a full bottle purchase so you can try it first and if you don't like it, you can return the full bottle. I agree this is a surprising complex frangrance. Whent it first spray I get a huge dose of Guerlain Insolence EDT (original version), and then it is immediately follow but huge amount of dry almonds. At this phase it smells ALMOST rather cheap but it doesn really go there. When I first tried it and after few minutes when it calmed down my next though was - this is not a Chanel frangrance, this is very very reminiscent of Dior. But again it doesn't fully goes there. Then comes a phase when I stopped smelling it on myself but when I do a quick move I catch on myself and it is a mix of Insolence EDT and musks. I am definitely buying a full bottle.

They are due a new male pillar. Hopefully, this year.

So funny, right after I saw Dacob’s review, my San Antonio associate texted me That it was in. I just picked it up! I’m a happy camper. The opening is not my favorite but after 10 minutes, it becomes slightly sweet, airy, and elegant. Thank you for the review.

Its slowly trickling into boutiques worldwide. Official launch is May 2024 but some boutiques already received it and if they did receive it, they will not showcase it on the sales floor unless you specifically ask for it. If you ask for it, they might bring a bottle from the back to let you test it and eventually purchase it.
