Challenges and opportunities for sustainable digitalized production with Mélanie Despeisse

Speaker: Mélanie Despeisse, Associate Professor, Industrial and Materials Science, Chalmers
Accelerated technological advances are reshaping the way value is created, delivered, and captured in ever-more complex and connected industrial systems. More specifically, the increased digitalization in production presents new opportunities to tackle pressing issues such as climate change and the accumulation of waste and pollutants in our environment. While industrial developments and research on Industry 4.0 are growing exponentially since 2015, many of these studies often do not address environmental sustainability concerns explicitly.
At this seminar, we address questions such as:
• Why is eco-efficiency so rare?
• How do we close the knowing-doing gap for sustainable production?
• What do we need to drive change towards sustainable industrial development?
