Chad Robichaux's Interpreter Aziz | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 122

Who is Chad Robichaux's JSOC interpreter Aziz? During their eight deployments together in Afghanistan, Chad and Aziz saved each other's lives more times than either could count, providing invaluable intel and establishing connections all over the region. But when the Afghan government fell and interpreters began being hunted by the Taliban, suddenly Aziz and Chad had bigger problems. Because it wasn't just getting Aziz out that was the problem - it was getting his family out safely too. And of course, neither could have known at the time that they were building the foundation for Save Our Allies, an organization that's helped thousands of families escape since.

What a great journey! This shows that the brotherhood formed in combat transcends borders and nationalities. More importantly, individuals are who make a difference in this world. Governments and institutions will cut you off with no second thought. But people will stick together and help a brother.

What our government did to our loyal allies and friends in Afghanistan is disgraceful. All those years of service and they were left to die. Sickening. I'm pretty sure the Taliban / Paki relationship is blessed off on by the State Department. Back in 09'-10' we chased a bunch of Haqqani guys to the Khost/Paki border. A bunch of Paki border guards actually engaged US troops and caused an interference for Haqqani to try and escape. If you remember in 2010 they closed the border, set a bunch of trucks and supplies on fire etc etc. Long story short, the state department tried really fucking hard to fry our chain of command for causing a international shit show for killing a bunch of Pakistanis who were protecting Haqqani at that time. The video magically got "leaked" publicly and everyone kind of shut up about it. We ended up smoking like 20 Haqqani and like 10-15 Pakistani border guards. Fun times after that. We ended up eating grilled bread soaked in butter and sugar for a few weeks when food ran out...... Also, if anyone remembers when RC East lost all its cellphone coverage in 2010....That was also us. Blew up the towers to shut down Haqqani cellphone ability because we would intercept traffic on air hammer missions. We'd pass up the intel and we got told to let it go. Eventually a few bases were attacked after senior leadership sat up on Disney sipping tea. We "accidentally" blew up a few towers during engagements.

It's been going on for longer than that, Afghanistan sent boys to schools in Pakistan because it was safe, that's where the origin of the word Taliban comes from, it means scholar. They get radicalized at a boarding school then come back home.

I had to stop at that point. What in the actual fuck man. BAF is so valuable that we need to keep a wartime presence in a country in perpetuity? And comparing the number of troops in other countries to the number in Afghanistan? That is such a disingenuous, straw-man argument. Last time I checked there weren't thousands of terrorists who'd gladly kill any American they see off post in Germany, Japan or Korea. Fuck right off with that analogy. As much as I love SOF guys, the fucking hubris some of these fools have is amazing. "Just give us the support we need, and we'll win!" Bro, ya had two decades, and billions of dollars in support. Some things are just not possible...like creating a democracy in a country that was piecemealed together from bands of tribes.
