Yes, I couldn't agree more that suggesting something rather than rendering it accurately makes for a much more exciting viewing experience. One should leave room for the viewer's imagination to fill in the blanks, provided they have one. Of course, this is easier said than done well. As an amateur painter myself, I'm only just now starting to be able to do this relatively skillfully after 5 years of trying. It's actually easier to render things accurately. Many people don't understand this. They think you're not doing that because you can't. But these people shouldn't be looking at art anyway and it's a waste of time trying to explain it to them.
