Ceramic Coating Wax Sealant Longevity Test - 42 WAY - UPDATE 20 - 2 YEARS 1 MO - FINAL UPDATE

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

....and the winner IS.......
1 Month followup to our decon wash/clay bar from the final 2 year update JUST to make sure doing that didn't change things!
Pretty impressive results. We follow up with a decon wash and then trying a clay bar to see if we get any improvements afterward.

    So it seems basically all coasting last at best 2-2.5 years under optimal wash conditions, meaning no aggressive pre-washes and soaps and no driving conditions or bugs, and the only thing that keeps it looking nice is the maintenance which gives it its hydrophobics. Personally I would say meguires ceramic wax and griots 3in1 are all anyone really needs, apply once a year with a light polish before application. Where as if you have a old coating there is more prep and more money and time put in to apply the product.

    I dunno, man. Ceramic coatings were making some bold 2,3,5 year claims. Maybe you could just keep this panel outside and do a quarterly update or check it after 6 months. We wanna see the the last one fail! We've come so far! You could be the only one the really tested a coating for it's full lifetime!

    On the basis of this test I decided to buy Mothers Ceramic CMX Spray. Yes, it is easier to apply than traditional hard waxes. However, three months on and the beading effect has almost gone. I'm glad I didn't throw out the Collinite 976 and 915. They seem to last but this didn't.

    Thank you Scott. You said there were maybe 30 washes during the 2 years. Question: What causes the coating to fail? 30 washes doesn't seem like a lot of washes. Is it the sun? Radiation? If I coat (which I did) my non-daily driver which sits in the driveway most of the time and wash it every couple weeks, will the coating last longer than if I were driving the truck every day? OK so that's like 3 questions. :) Thanks again Scott. Love your tests

  • @ScottHD

    I would say "weather". Combination of rain (and some snow), heat, UV, dirt from the wind, etc.

  • @ScottHD

    Also I think coating your truck sitting vs driving every day would probably affect the longevity, but it is dependant on use. The "road grime" wouldn't be reflected in this test and would likely shorten the lifespan further

    Moisture, temperature, solar radiation, air movement and pressure, precipitation, chemicals, and micro or macro organisms. Those are the things that lead to deterioration of chemicals.I’m sure the hood saw every one of those.

    Odd..I have been told by many pro detailers that claying a coated car ruins the coating and does not bring it back

  • @BlackHawkPSU

    @BlackHawkPSU

    3 жыл бұрын

    There are differing opinions on that. My personal feelings are, it depends... If the coating is clogged I would try an iron decon product first and work it in with a quality wash mitt just as you would wash a vehicle and do it in the shade. After that do a wash with a pH neutral soap, my favorite being CarPro Reset. Then dry with my favorite drying towel, the Griot's PFM drying towel LOL! If that doesn't help with revival I think the coating is probably toast. So at this point it can't hurt to try a MILD clay bar and gently glide it over the surface. If the coating is shot, it's shot, claying won't hurt at this point. Long story short... Proper maintenance is the key to longevity. Coatings aren't something that are easy peasy maintenance free. You could apply a "topper" to that tired coating and like many others make yourself think the coating has been revived :)
