My parents taught me, from early childhood, to appreciate classic films from the 30s and 40s. Also, the music from 20s thru 50s: jazz standards.

Beautiful memories of those that encouraged us to watch these lovely classics. My beloved "Mamà" 1st introduced the Spanish classics then she introduced these beautiful classics. She didn't speak much English & yet, she loved Band music & classical music. She was a wonderful surprise in her interests. We lost her in "05" & I Praise Padre God that every day there is something that reminds me of her. This classic is something she would enjoy as well.

AWESOME!!!!! Thank you so much for a wonderful old classic that I had actually never seen. I have been addicted to classic movies from the golden era of Hollywood since I was in my 20's & I am now 50 yrs old. Consequently, I have seen just about every old movie ever made so I spend a lot of time watching the really great ones over & over again on youtube & amazon prime. It was really nice to see an entertaining old movie for the first time. The music in this film was enjoyable & just the right amount; in many of the old musical films they got carried away, having a sing-a-long in every conversation. I definitely think the costumes & some of the sets left room for improvement, but the hair stylist in this film did a beautiful job. As for the acting, You can't beat Walter Brennan, and Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell & Constance Bennett are all very talented actors in their own rights! Another entertaining musical classic from the talented Mr. Jerome Kern!

What a delightful surprise! I've watched endless musicals from this era but never heard of this one! The color is faded on this copy - would love to see a restored version. And what a cast! I live near Philly and seeing the 1876 Centennial recreated on such a grand scale was incredible to see. This seems to be Fox's answer to MGM's Meet Me in St Louis. While the score was not as good as that MGM classic it does have the Jerome Kern touch. Cornel Wilde's French accent was so good I thought I was watching a real French actor until I realized it was Wilde! A real treat - especially for Philadelphians. By the way, in the shot of the 1876 Exposition site the grand central building still stands in Fairmount Park - one of the few survivors of the Centennial buildings and the only major one. It is the first building of the "American Renaissance" of the late 19th Century that brought authentic European architecture to the US. It is now the Please Touch Museum.

I remember watching this movie every time it was shown on the afternoon movie show that ran each week day in Terre Haute in the 60s. It was one of my favorites and I have not found anyone who remembers seeing it before. Born in 1954 my mother had me watching old movies from my early childhood. I love TCM, but they show the same movies over and over, and are showing more from the 70's (not an old movie in my book!). This movie, To Each HIs Own, and Forever Young are my three favorites and they are never shown on tv. Thanks to KZread and those who take time to share them, I can once more enjoy these classics!

I love old movies. I was watching one in B/W one day, my grandson came in. He stared at it for a few minutes and asked, "Nana, what's wrong with T.V.?" lol

Wonderful channel. I'm afraid this is a second rate Meet Me In St. Louis produced a year earlier and an enormous hit. Despite the obvious talent involved, this never gets off the ground.

Yep, that was me. Only in the last few months have i gotten the rights back, to upload longer videos. So in the process of re-authoring/uploading all the films I had put up in multiple parts originally.

1:23:55 Enter Avon Long and five little kids performing a happy tune and dance. Love this segment that just appears out of nowhere. I also love that the boys are not actually playing the harmonics but just part of the scene. I don't think any of the kids got cast listed. Note the absence of harmonica music while the boys are blowing away later into the scene. Just a few of the funny little things you can spot in an old movie like this. BTW, I have always enjoyed Walter Brennan and this is one of his classy films, with a refined accent. He is not always a toothless squeaky-voice character. Lol! Well, not quite "karaoke" but I get your joke. :) Actually, a lot of films had a form of "lip synching". They did voice overs with another artist; the actors mouthed the lyrics. Sadly, the singers rarely received recognition as it would ruin the illusion; but, it's usually fairly obvious the actors weren't singing.
