Believe it or not, I was an extra on the Golden Girls in 1987 and the only star to go out of their way to be super friendly and ask all about me...where I was from, how long in LA, etc., was Betty White. So rest assured, she is exactly as wonderful in person as she seems on screen.

Hearing Betty White's voice brings back memories of me watching Match Game in the early to late 1970s with my mom. And The Mary Tyler Moore show. It's so interesting how to me, by the time The Golden Girls came in TV, I couldn't recall a time without Betty White entertaining us with her gray wit and prefect comedic timing: by the time she played Rose, I thought how cool it was that these four women were given roles in their "old age" (I'm their age now!). Hahaha! How fortunate to have these wonderful memories with our moms. Betty White used many innuendos on Match Game, but was never raunchy or dirty. Always funny and with the most beautiful smile on her face. Have you seen the Betty White bloopers from Hot In Cleveland? I only saw one episode of that show, but I'll tell you what, Betty White's bloopers reel in one of the funniest (about...) 20 minutes I've ever seen from TV... tied with Tim Conway & Harvey Coreman 's Dentist Sketch from The Carol Burnette Show... oh! And also tied with Gilda Radner and Candice Bergen's Saturday Night sketch from the first (or second?) season, where Gilda is talking about dumb people of the country. I own the tapes. Candace blows her line, and Gilda saves the sketch, but Candice can't stop laughing!! 😂

Man, I loved me some Betty White! What a fascinating, kind, hilarious, bright light! Like so many others, I've seen her on TV most of my life, from Password onward...She lived quite a brilliant life and was truly a comedic genius!

😂😂😂 I love that Betty White never breaks character when she's given these ridiculous lines. On the Golden Girls her stories from St. Olaf were so random that the other two actresses would break character, but Betty would keep a straight face! This comedy is where she shines!!

@@kilroy2517 trust me, she breaks character. They just don't use those takes. On SNL she's been in rehearsal already. Also, she has decades of experience and is a consummate pro which is why she was so smooth on live t.v.

She could have joined the cast. Her comic sense was impeccable and her wit razor sharp.

SNL’s writing wasn’t consistently good enough for her, IMO. They would’ve dragged her down.

SNL hasn’t been funny for decades. If Betty was on the ratings would skyrocket, but it wouldn’t last long since the writers are terribly unfunny. Betty would have to ad lib every single time she was on.

@@taoist32 That's why I said SNL would have dragged her down. Also, her manager said that though she was a real trooper that entire week or rehearsals with the very grueling pace of the show, at one point he said she gave him a look that said, "Never again". At her age even in 2010, it would have been too much as a steady gig given her age. She was great in this bit, wasn't she?

Everything about this is just BRILLIANT

I always love her stories when she would explain something when she was a child. They where always so outlandish. I even google Saint Olof where she always said she was from on the golden girls…lol

The world is a lot less funny today. We will miss you, Betty. You were a funny class act!

Betty white is priceless. Nobody ever wrote a joke she couldn't make work.

I've watched this sketch several times, and I literally just noticed the cue card behind the door as Tina Fey's character leaves.

That was legitimately one of the funniest SNL sketches I've ever seen, Betty White is a legend

This is one comedian that I can never get tired of seeing. Being older than some here, my introduction to Betty White came when she played Sue-Ann Nivens, 'The Happy Homemaker'. My entire family rarely watched television shows together. 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' was one of them, along with 'The Carol Burnett Show', "The Bob Newhart Show" and later 'Rhoda'. When my mother was out of the room my dad would explain Sue-Ann's dirty jokes to me. My dad was bipolar, but went undiagnosed until a few months before he died, so I had a confusing, mostly unhappy childhood. Watching those shows are among my happiest memories of our family together. Betty White will always have a special place in my heart.

Yeah same here I was born and grew up in the 1960's in Minnesota mostly in Minneapolis actually I'm living back here now. I used to love the Mary Tyler Moore show.

I feel better, I first fell in love with her on the MTM Show as well. I was a precocious child, so I understood her dirty jokes. She was hysterical 🤣 and I loved her even more on Password. The only thing that keeps me from breaking down completely is that she's reunited with her beloved husband, Allen Ludden. May they both SIH

My parents wouldn't tell me what the dirty jokes meant. Now in heaven Betty, Ted, Mary, Phyllis, and Valerie are laughing together over all those great scenes they gave to us.

"superior to Asian".... one of the few people who could actually pull that off and get away with it, and damnit she did!

I loved how she genuinely never intended to be funny but always manages to make you smile and laugh. It’s sad she didn’t make it to 100, her birthday would truly have been special as she was going to celebrate with everyone.

Betty White was the greatest. Another great talent, gone far too soon. RIP Betty, thank you for everything!❤️

Betty White was a comic genius! She had the timing, delivery & that innocent charm that fooled you into thinking she was naive. Losing her & Norm Macdonald last year was devastating. RIP to both of them.

Doing a bunch of magazine covers and articles about turning 100 and then dying right after they're printed and in stores is a very Betty White way to go. Like you said, timing, delivery and charm :)

@Lux Aeterna you know what, Lux? She would have loved the irony of putting a small dent in people’s New Year’s Eve/Day. Not never with mean-ness--it’s just that we were all home, making a vodka and eating hot dogs, we had time to reflect on her life without other things getting in the way. Nice thought of yours.

I just found this! Funny as hell. Miss Betty will be greatly missed. Rest in peace special lady...🙏♥️
