    Dear David, Your tutorials are excellent - thank you SO much. I have been dabbling with knots for a wee while now (and not progressing very fast) but i find your methodology, with circles as spacers, works beautifully. I have achieved levels of complexity i had not imagined attainable so quickly. Your work is truly a gift. Thanks again. Best wishes.

    You're really amazingly patient with your little faerie! I can just see her sitting there - tendrils of hair all askew, furrowed brow, tongue peeking out of the corner of her mouth as she tries again and again to get it right! (My mother always said that it's all in the way you hold your tongue!) Thank you for another wonderful demonstration.

    The rubber that I'm using in Tutorial 1(and various others) I've had for 20 years. I like it because I can use it accurately. I has just run out and I've replaced it with a Pentel Click Erase, which is similar. However, any soft rubber will do. The trick is to do your guidelines lightly and not put any pressure on your pencil.

    Hi David, I have just began to learn how to do this art and I am getting on fine for a novice thanks totally for your videos. Just a quick question about this one. Do the circles that are used for guides reduce in size as I get nearer the centre or do they have the same radius throughout.( The Circles marking the cross-sections)

    I appreciate your tutorial and your tipical british sense of humor ( and the fairy too of course) but I can't understand what's your problem with the compasses... Is obvious, if you grasp a leg and try to draw naturally the compass will open. There is an handy pin on the top for the twisting, use it, you'll love it

  • @davidnicholls100

    @davidnicholls100

    ^The compasses and me go back a long way! I stole them from school when I left there in 1964! they were always a bit loose and I over-tightened them. It's sometimes tricky to set them to the right measurement but better too tight than too loose (as the actress said to the bishop!) ;-) I don't have a problem with them - I LOVE them and I would never part with them! I have at least 6 pairs of compasses and I always go back to my old school ones! Thanks for your kind comments, Luca PS Mine don't have the 'handy pin on the top' but I don't care!!!! ;-)

    Dear Mr Nicholls, I didn't mean to disrespect you, I follow with amazement and wonder your tutorials and, if if I should, in any way, offended you, I beg your pardon. I just remembered my technical drawing teacher, who, seeing someone using the compass for the leg, was used to throw the blackboard wiper with homicidal purpose. Personally, to avoid the opening of the compass, when I have to keep the precisest distances, I use an instrument that, in Italy, we call "Balaustrone", a compass with a micrometric screw that regulate and block the opening. I wish you my heartfelt greetings, and I hope you can add many more exciting tutorials. P.S. please, forgive my poor english too... Best wishes

    Luca I can't think why you might have offended me, but I can assure you that you haven't!!! I have three of those screw compasses and although they are easier and more accurate, I still go back to my school compasses. I'm glad that you enjoyed my videos. I haven't done any for a long time but I'm half way through a series on The Golden Section and I'm planning a series on four-dimensional projections as ornament (check out Claude Bragdon and Charles Howard Hinton on Google if you are interested). Thanks again for your kind comments, Luca. I hope you have a good New Year. Best wishes, David

    Be a little nicer to your fairy! Correct her not in front of us! That’s humiliating and takes the fun out for her!
