    If you pronounce something wrong, the citizens of KZread will let you know about it! I googled how to pronounce it at the time of filming and got the wrong answer from Merriam-Webster. Don't blame me, blame them.

    The sacred part, that (still) eludes me. The geometry though... very clear. It's stunningly beautiful! What struck me is this, the knot is actually two hearts (like the hearts of a deck of playing cards) placed (transposed perhaps?) in one another like the two triangles of the Star of David. So, it's a Star of Love? Ahw... so nice! 😄

    @@ZKorvin you go by the classic checker box on your paper, divide it into equal boxes.Then pick your pair of compass and draw small circles on the crosspaths of the boxes. now you are done with your base patron. now if you draw parallel lines with your ruler from circle to circle (the line should go from the outside middle of the circle to the other ,not suure if you get what i mean) you can start creating yourr celtic pattern.do 2 parallel lines then change direction or jump up a box n draw the next two . that should do the knitting .use compass for corners.or when you wanna make a turn. once you perform this you will get how it works immediatly then add your fantasy and you can do endless celtic creations

    "Seltic" is used for the football teams (Scottish and US), "Keltic" for the culture. Also, I'm fairly sure that the term 'Love Knot' to describe this only appeared in the 1980's (possibly late 70's) while the 'sacred geometry' comes from Plato's philosophy (c. 400BC) while the Celtic knotwork comes from the latter half of the 1st century AD. You cover most of the history of Western civilization in the title to this one!

  • @ZKorvin

    @ZKorvin

    @@marsupialdungbucket a few people have mentioned this now so I did a bit of research and it turns out that “keltic” started being used in the 18th century and just caught on, prior to that it was “seltic” whether it was for a football team or not. Kinda like how Americans say aluminum instead of aluminium. They all know it’s wrong but they won’t stop 😁

    @@ZKorvin From wikipedia (other sources are also available ;) ): "The first recorded use of the name of Celts - as Κελτοί (Keltoí) - to refer to an ethnic group was by Hecataeus of Miletus, the Greek geographer, in 517 BC". and "In the 1st century BC, Caesar referred to the Gauls as calling themselves "Celts" in their own tongue." 'C' was pronounced as 'k' in Latin, only to become the 's' sound later in the Romance languages. So Caesar called himself 'Kaizar' and it was only centuries later that it became 'Seezar', and the same with the Celts. Though I've never heard anyone call them 'Selts'. Yet. The sacred geometry, on the other hand, is wonderful to see done properly; hardly anyone does knotwork that way any more. I've been making copies of the carpet pages from the Book of Lindisfarne lately and Janet Backhouse's book shows the workings on the reverse of each one, very similar to yours.

    It's interesting you say this right now as I've been thinking about it a lot this week, no one seems to really know what the definition of sacred geometry is, including me. I must admit I have had the word "sacred" mixed up with "revered", I think. Geometry was sacred to me as in it should be respected and held at a high value. When I realised the word sacred actually means it's dedicated to gods, and seeing as I don't have any gods, I no longer feel right using the word. Thanks for your comment.
