Mirandese is a wonderful language. I wish I could learn it, but unfortunately there aren't many people to practice with.

You can still learn it; find a friend willing to take classes with you so you can practice. When I was young we studied languages in high school but we didn't speak them per say.

Acabo de saber da existencia do idioma mirandês. Assisti 3 videos sobre e já percebi que para mim, que sou brasileiro, é mais suave entender o mirandes que o portugues de Lisboa. Assim também é com o galego. Estas linguas têm mais afinidades fonéticas com o português que por aqui falamos. Saúdos brasileiros aos mirandeses.

Wow, this is probably the language that is most closely related to Portuguese. I understood 100% without any difficulty at all, and I'd say that some 85% of the words sound exactly identical, with not even any minor differences, and the other 15% sound very similar.

I'm a Portuguese speaker. To me Mirandês is a blend of Portuguese, Castelian & Archaic Portuguese. The majority of the vocabulary is Portuguese. Like others from northern Portugal, g.e. Minho, where vinho (wine) is pronounced (binho)& barco(boat) is pronounced "varco" their pronounciation of words starting with v & b are switched as they say "bamos" instead of "vamos" etc. The word "vir" in Portuguese becomes "venir" in Spanish. I believe because of their isolation from other inhabitants of Portugal & their proximity to Spain, they acquired & incorporated spanish words into the Portuguese language which has been passed on for generations. Some of their vocabulary are the same as in the Capeverdean dialect which makes me wonder if it's because people from Trás-os-Montes populated some islands in Cabo Verde.

The Astur-Leonese populated the area but due to feudal complications the territory was granted to the County of Portugal and thus the influence began once pastors and such from other places in Portugal came to bring writing, scripture, etc. At this time in Zamora the only language spoken was Leonese so there was not much advantage to incorporate any Castillian or Portuguese into their daily lives. (Until around the 18th century).

I am an English speaker who has learned Spanish and Portuguese. The first time round I thought that she was speaking Portuguese (she sounds 'Portuguese' to me) but she said 'penso' or the like for 'I think' not 'acho' and 'la' not 'a', and some verbs differ.

"Penso" is used that way in Portuguese, instead of "acho". It sounds more formal so you wouldn't hear it being used like that so much in more informal instances, but that wasn't what gave mirandese away in this video.

Pensar is a perfectly acceptable Portuguese verb. If you've learned Portuguese, you should know that.

I love the languages that have very little hard stops, and have a lot of "sshhhhh" sounds and the natives communicate with a more closed mouth. It makes for a gorgeous language. I hear it in European Portuguese and Albanian, and now I know about Mirandese :)

Muita gente surpreende-se pela similaridade entre as línguas portuguesas e Mirandesa, e por isso pensam que é no máximo um dialecto isolado. Mas atenção, o Mirandês é uma língua separada e distinta. Na verdade, é o nome pela qual a língua Asturo-Leonesa é reconhecida em Portugal. Many people are surprised by the similarity between the Portuguese and Mirandese languages, and so think that it is at least an isolated dialect. But attention, Mirandese is a separate and distinct language. In fact, that is the name that is used in Portugal to recognize the Asturo-Leonese language. That is a language, unfortunately in decline, spoken in the historic regions of Asturias and Leon, in Spain, and Land of Miranda, in Portugal, similar, but different from the Galaico-Portuguese spoken in the rest of the country.

Wow, people here questioning whether this lady is speaking Mirandese or not when she didn't really have to make this video for us and could've kept her language to herself. Besides, why would she lie? Even if it were a Portuguese dialect (which Mirandese is not), shouldn't we be thankful?

The more the better! I think it's educational. I wish I could speak all languages & dialects so I could converse with everyone. I'm a Portuguese speaker & have no problem with Mirandês because I also speak Spanish.

Não, ela fala mirandês. Eu acho que há diferencias poucas por exemplo "la musica" em vez de "a musica" mas os falantes de português podem entender.

You do realise that's how every language forms... they evolve from substrate languages and are changed slightly to become a new language. She isn't speaking Portuguese she is speaking Mirandese.

Then Portuguese in Salvador de Bahía is a different language compared to Portuguese in Porto Alegre... their differences in pronunciation are just as "big" as the difference between this "Mirandês" and the standard Portuguese. Everyone here is confusing accents and minimal word choices/changes with a new language. Whatever, let them have it. By the way, I speak a language called Argentinian. It is different than Colombian... though I am fluent in the latter too ... lol :p

Precisamente Caio. Essa forma de conjugar também é utilizada por Açoreanos principalmente de São Miguel. É interessante notar que Mirandês parece ser uma mistura de falantes de Trás-os-Montes, Alentejo e Espanha. Tanto no Brasil, como no arquipêlago dos Açores usa-se a palavra "botar" embora com significado diferente. No crioulo de Cabo Verde "bota" significa jogar fora (botâ na lixo) e também "atira-me essa bola", por exemplo "botam quel bola". Meus amigos Açoreanos dizem "bota o botão no vestido" significando prega o botão, "bota aqui o copo" em vez de "põe aqui o copo". Aparte do uso de certas palavras também têm um sotaque diferente dependendo da ilha e ou aldeia. Para "eu" vestir-me " eles dizem "para mim vestir". Em vez de "disse-lhe" eles dizem "disse a ela" Acho interessante as variantes da mesma língua. A propósito, os Mirandeses dizem lhéngua que nem é português nem espanhol. Em espanhol seria lengua.

@@rosariaarteaga1665 no Brasil é muitíssimo comum essas duas últimas formas de falar dos açorianos, é inclusive, citada como um dos principais erros gramaticais dos brasileiros. Minha mãe, que é professora, sempre me corrigia quanto a isso, se bem que acho que no Brasil nem consideramos disse a ela ou disse pra ela como incorreto. Só em português formal, os brasileiros falariam "disse-lhe". Mas nunca falamos o português formal mesmo...

Tu, também, falas Mirandês, mas é mais vigorante teu sotaque Português. Não que isso seja um defeito, e sim uma qualidade! Faz com que o Mirandês não seja esquecido!

Entiendo perfectamente'l mirandés gracies a qu'hala la llingua hermana del asturianu y del lleonés dambos formen el dominiu lingüisticu ástur. Mancar que les variedaes lleoneses esten bien influyida poles llingües dominantes. El mirandés foi influyíu pol portugués, l'asturianu y el lleonés pol castellán. Comparte carauterístiques col lleonés y asturianu occidental próximes al galaicu-portugués, pela so parte l'asturianu oriental, central y estremeñu comparten más traces col castellán.

De hecho, creo que ambos son más o menos el mismo idioma, ambos son vienen del tronco Asturleonés que a su vez vienen de un dialecto del latín, supongo que si hiciéramos una variante estándar de todas las lenguas asturleonesas, debería basarse en el Asturleonés de los texto mas antiguos, en el Asturiano y en el Leones principalmente

General Franco this is an Asturian language right? I always wondered if the “ü” accent mark like the one in “lingüisticu” came from the Suevi or other Germanic tribe, since that accent marking is Nordic. If any region of Iberia, that influence would have been preserved in Asturias

And that's curious. Mirandese, Catalan and Galician-Portuguese languages share some characteristics that don't exist in Castillian. Ex.: Verb "TO LEAVE" - "DEJAR"(SP) | "DEIXAR"(GL, PT, CA and Mirandese). And the pronounce too, as you said.

Because she have Portugal accent. In the '50 Portugal recaived a lot of French teachers who transformed the Portugal accent for complete. The asturian or leonese speak in Spain, sounds much more "original" than mirandese.

Aqui (Brasil) a influencia foi direta de franceses aqui e a corte falar igual a eles. Mas muitos lugares aqui no Brasil ainda se fala o "r" vibrante duplo, mas por influencia italiana ou castelhana.

by the way to the folks watching this the best way for me to learn another language is from its music. of course not everyone has the same taste in music as I do. but if that is how you learn I encourage it

Well, first of all it is definitely not Portuguese language. And is very important to clarify that there is no such thing as “Spanish”. If you are thinking of Castilian, then no this is not a form of Castilian. Mirandese is the name of the Asturo-Leonese language in Portugal, a very old Iberian language that is spoken in Asturias and Leon in Spain, and Miranda in Portugal

A única diferença fonética que eu percebi foi na substituição do V pelo B. De resto, o que muda praticamente são apenas as palavras. Quase totalmente inteligível.

É por culpa da influência portuguesa no mirândes. Mas a escrita é completamente diferente, exemplo: "Todos ls seres houmanos nácen lhibres i eiguales an denidade i an dreitos. Custuituídos de rezon i de cuncéncia, dében portar-se uns culs outros an sprito de armandade."

O mirandês é falado em Miranda do Douro, um concelho no nordeste de Portugal onde o português falado não diferencia V e B (na realidade em praticamente todos os dialetes do português do Norte de Portugal esse é o caso, mesmo em cidades maiores, como Porto ou Braga). Portanto, no contexto da região de Portugal onde é falado, nem isso é distintivo. Mas como a senhora disse, ela aprendeu mirandês quando já estava no quarto ano, não fala mirandês de forma nativa. Se for ouvir videos em mirandês de pessoas mais velhas que são falantes nativos, notam-se mais algumas diferenças.

@@ArthurPPaiva "Influência portuguesa no mirandês" Todas as línguas do noroeste peninsular, incluindo o galego, asturiano e alguns dialetos do norte de Portugal possuem essa peculiaridade, que é medieval; não foi o português que fez com que o mirandês a adquirisse. E não há culpa porque não há crime.

As a Spaniard I understand Mirandese better than Portuguese.

Sounds like Portuguese to me. I understood every single word. If that's a separate language, then so is Brazilian...and Azorean...and Madeiran. Because the differences with those dialects are greater than what I just heard.
