I so appreciate this tribute and post . Thank you @JonathanDesVerney for sharing. I sing multiple genres of music HOWEVER, this is my roots and I thank God daily for my upbringing and rearing in the C.O.G.I.C where both Dr. Mother Mattie Moss and Dr. Betty Nelson and Iris Stevenson McCullough spent time with me to train me both vocally and spiritually. Let’s GO

WAS IT INTENTIONAL, OR AN OVERSIGHT? During AIM, there was a beautiful tribute to the History of the International Music Dept. It was an awesome tribute, but there was one problem… Two very key people were left out!!! JESSIE JIMERSON & MATTIE WIGLEY (Both of whom had children, by Bishop J.O. Patterson Sr.). Is this the reason their contributions to the National Music Dept was overlooked? I just saw the tribute to the History of the International Music Dept. (Excellent Work)!!! However, obviously someone may not have been aware. Bishop C.H. Mason, & Mother Anna Boyd Crockett, appointed my Mother Jessie Jimerson National Choir Director in 1951. She served in that position until we left Memphis in 1965. In fact, my Dad appointed Mattie Moss Clark (who was more qualified ‘Educationally’ than my Mother), to that position, because my Mom left Memphis, and he was angry with her. I hope at some point In the future, the church will correct the oversight of my Mother & Mattie Wigley. Because that is a part of the history of our music; and their memory. In fact the very first song they sang: “Get Away Jordan”, was from a tv show I was at the recording of… and My Mother, & Mattie were the lead singers on it. There are people living right now, who can still confirm this fact!!! Jonathan, you are an EXCELLENT preserver of COGIC History. But because of your age, you have to go by what is written down. There are some facts that for what ever reason, just weren’t recorded in the records. But there is no question, Mother Crockett & Bishop C. H. Mason appointed my Mother National Choir Director. And she Directed the National Choir in that very Convocation in 1951, and continued til 1965.

So true Ben a lot of history was left out and in era. This was a great tribute but they missed so much and left out important things. Madam Wigley and your mom were deeply involved. Even some of the years were off I believe Dr. Clark served in 1969-1994 not 1974

That's not true I l know Benjamin tells people that but she was never over the music department, but she did play a part in the music department the same as Bishop C.T. James did and others that weren't mention.

@@benjaminjimerson-phillips6343 How was that possible when Mother Crocket Ford was the National Music Department President at that time. Even her own family can confirm that fact. If your mother was appointed to be over the Music Department then what was Mother Ann Crocket Ford position? It's also a fellow name Bishop C.T. James who was also over a part of the Music Department.

@@JonathanDesVerney Jonathan, I think where the issue is, falls, is in the fact we are both correct. My Mother was never over the music dept. I said Mother Crockett & Bishop Mason appointed her National Choir Director. She worked under Mother Crockett. As I stated, there are a lot of people in my History group, still living, who remember and can confirm this fact.

I have always said, and will continue to say, YOU have a zeal for history! Hand you have preserved some amazing historical fact! I have no problem telling the world, my documentary’COGIC Pioneers Tribute’, was made possible (in part), because of your financial support! So I could never have beef with you, even if I wanted too! You have been to kind, and only a fool would turn on someone who has been that kind. We are ‘BOTH’ correct. Mother Crockett was over the music dept. However, without question, my Mother was National Choir Director, (under Mother Crockett). I myself as a young boy would be there at my Dad’s (Bishop J.O. Patterson) Church, Pentecostal Temple). Which is where the Convocation Choir Rehearsals, would take place.

Yes technically in 1968 but not official until 1972. Dr. Ford was still serving as leader of the Music Department with Dr. Clark under her wing. It was made official in 1972 when Bishop J.O. Patterson got reelected as Presiding Bishop in 1972.
