We do everything we can to reduce the effects of bacteria in our 3/16” lines. We use 5/16” drop lines, sterilize all lines post season and this year we are trying the Silver Spouts. Silver Spouts are made with real silver mixed into the plastic using similar processes as medical equipment. Bacteria does grow well on silver. Reducing the bacteria lines will allow the tap holes to flow longer during maple season. The silver spouts cost a bit more but you can use them for two maybe three seasons, If they work the extra cost is worth the expense.
