Chemical engineer here, so I apologize if my question is stupid. Wouldn't an LED be drawing too much current from the CD4011 output? It looks like it would be 22 mA (5/220) but the data sheet for the chip says output current max is like 1 mA.

LED's can glow even par it's max current rating but not too high like a 20mA rated LED can handle 30mA but definitely not 1A resistors are used accordingly I see no problem here

Very good video, thank you! But what the difference between cd4011 and cd4093 ? Thanks!

CD4011 is just a NAND gate, but CD4093 is Schmitt Trigger NAND Gate.

@@EEWave Thank you for the answer! Excuse me for my incompetence, I assume that the trigger fixes - as if it remembers the state, and cd4011 - just keeps the level while the signal is coming?

4011 vs 7400 both are NAND but different family, which one is better ?

  • @EEWave

It depends on where to use. 4011 has larger voltage range, +3v to +18v. Consume low power. 7400 needs +5v, Faster than 4011, Consume more power than 4011.

@@EEWave I just want to light up some LEDs maybe 7segment displays or LED matrixes or maybe small scale graphics or something for my LCD display primarily for understanding logic gates suggest me can you ? I am looking for logic gates, multiplex/demultiplex, counters, shift registors etc is there any edge of 74XX over 4XXX or vice versa accordingly
