One thing I struggled to remember but found it much easier when I did, was stop hanging onto the handlebars for dear life. When I did this, I was tense, I was stooping over the tank, I was jerking the handlebars around and making life so much harder than it needed to be. So it was shoulders back, tits out and stop with the death grip. I still have to remind myself this! Also, when doing CBT, Mod 1 and 2, chew gum, sing to yourself and I made sure I took Rescue Remedy a good few hours before the test. It made a huge difference. But yeah, many tears, self doubt, thinking 'I'm too old for this', it is singularly the best thing I have ever done.

That intro really is so american its unreal haha😂 There is a stark difference tbf because im pretty sure their licensing system is crazy different to that in EU. From what ive seen they dont need to pass a manual car test to drive a manual so just learn by doing it and apply the same concept for the bikes i guess. Also their tests are probably equivalent to that of a CBT. Got my CBT booked for next month so fingers crossed it goes well. Thank you for the great video explaining everything!

Hardest thing I found when I first started was going slow, not fast that was the easy bit. But going slow felt so strange. My legs were constantly twitching to pedal.

I appreciate this video as someone doing their DAS in January. It is intimidating, and I am worried about dropping the bike (I did accidentally drop the bike during my CBT...), but it is something I've always wanted to do.

Keep going if it’s what you want and don’t let fear stop you, it’s only temporary. I know some advanced riders who drop their bikes all the time, and I’m not just saying that, obviously you don’t want to drop a bike but it happens, recognise the things that make it happen and plan to mitigate them the best you can 👍🏻

Be a nice follow up if you can show some riding in traffic as on youtube there are a few but the ones you end up watching are in the US as the quality filmed in the UK isn't always the best. Just something for thought.

Ive seen people fall off and still pass thier cbt. The modern training after cbt for mod 1 and mod 2 in my opinion is pretty poor. Ive been out with several riders who have come from the same training place as you've been and they are shocking. Teaching to pass a test is not the way to imo. Then even worse, as your mate knows, pass mod 2 and get the A licence, jump on a 1000cc 170bhp and throw it into the crash barrier. No matter age, you should be bike/power limited for at least 3 years.

I agree. I passed the cbt and even though I was a driver felt massively under qualified to ride a bike. Less so for the full access but that’s because I spent 2 years on the cbt riding weekends. Had I of gone from cbt straight into full access I would be under qualified on a faster bike!

Hated my riding lessons , weird eh, quite scared every time . The first time you set off and lift up ur legs feel’s like 100mph. The CBT when you set off and haven’t a clue as to how to stop or how to turn left on the ever so tiny practice area. Panick break and all hell breaks loose . If it wasn’t for you Don I probably wouldn’t have my full licence now .. ❤

Any chance you get always practice your emergency stop. Beginners are afraid of really pulling on that front brake with ABS. You have to get used to really pulling that lever in. Imagine there is a car and you need to stop as soon as possible. You wont be sup rised when a car pulls out on you. It will be muscle memory. If it suprises you then you will have a serious injury. Just practice.

Great tip 👍🏻 I practice an emergency stop (front and rear brakes) at least once a month.
