These type of caving is the most reckless and dangerous of all. No equipment, no preparation, no photogrammetric cave reconaissance. Just straight up crawling your way through tight openings with no way to navigate your way back without understanding your own human anatomy limitations. It's just outright stupid. This is worse than the Tham Luang Thai Cave incident.

I would be open to some low risk caving, but when it gets down to having to exhale while prone to squeeze through a tunnel, no. Not even a little bit. I wanna walk around, maybe shimmy up and down a rope, but I do not want to be tempting fate by squeezing through a tunnel I barely fit through, or by going up and down vertical tunnels when there's a chance of inclement weather outside. Caves are neat, but I do not wanna fuck around like that in one.

There is nothing wrong with caving. But I seriously struggle to call what we've seen here caving, this is just some weird brand of stupidity. I've seen some beautiful caves in my life, but I've explored all of them in an upright, standing position. The worst I had to do was crouch to fit a 1.5 meter gap in an old salt mine cave. THAT is what caving is. No person with their survival instincts in tact would willingly squeeze their body into a narrow tunnel like that.

There's a reason why some people would develop claustrophobia, it's a warning sign for us created by our ancestors. For every single thing we fear our ancestors from millions of years ago had to live through it. People like John died because they ignored these warnings.

Some people clearly lack "something",when you go close to a ledge the body tells you ,you are in danger ,when you see something coming towards you or something falls, you cover your head first etc , thats why we have those warnings. Some people climbing on top of a huge tower without equipment ,just to get a selfie ,doing all kinds of "extreme"sports shouldnt be legal.because we have to send people to save those clowns, risking their own lives.

Not to mention, he dived into an UNKNOWN/UNMAPPED PART OF THE CAVE HEAD FIRST, which is one of the big no's of caving. You want to go in feet first. That way if you do get stuck like he did, you don't get stuck in such a compromising position and could potentially get out. All of this could have been avoided if he was smarter... and more responsible. When you're single, do all the daredevil stunts/activities you want. But when you have a family and kids your life isn't your own anymore to do shit like this. He didn't deserve to go like this, but he also should have known better.

omg... i'd never do that personnally, even if in a second life i would maybe be into cave dwelling, I prefer staying to big rooms and large caves rather than going into tight squeezes and dying stupidly at a dead end...

    Why not cut some rock

Likely many reasons. Even if the rock could be cut, the cave would just fill with rocks. Don't forget most machines still use gas which would generate a ton of poison in the air.

two big reasons, but not the only reasons: 1: You need to carefully remove the rock that you cut or it will cause even more problems. This can be difficult to impossible depending on the size of the rock and location in the cave. 2: You risk the integrity of the entire area of the cave system, risking cave ins, making the problem a hundred times worse.

If even imagine squeezing in there, I get really nervous and anxious. I don't even want to watch this to the end. What a terrible death it must be to get stuck in there. In my opinion, it's just plain stupid to do this. To be honest, I don't have any sympathy for people who don't make it.

Why close the cave off, why not just close that dead end passage off. Why ruin it for others just because this guy died?

How many people have to die before you realize some cave systems are just too dangerous to use? Don't forget several people got stuck before including a teenager. They all easily could of died too which is why the cave was first closed off. If they hadn't of caved in (no pun intended) to pressure from people like you. And kept the cave sealed off, John would still be alive. One fatality is one too many.

@@TimberlakeTigerGirl Because people have the right to do whatever they want, including risking their own lives for whatever reason they want. It is not up to you or I to tell people what they can and cannot do with their own bodies and lives. Instead of closing the cave, they should put a sign up saying, if you get stuck beyond such and such point, we will not send any rescuers in. Explore at your own risk.

@@vodkarage8227 All that says is you have a form of psychopathy if you don't care about other people's wellbeing. The cave is sealed for good; get over it. If you don't care about your life, or how it will impact your family (if you have one), then do what you want. But I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't want to bury their loved ones because they weren't thinking with their heads. And they have something called humanity (which you lack), where they don't want others to suffer the same fate as John. Especially parents who don't want to bury their children. The people have spoken; deal with it.

As the old saying goes; intelligence doesn't always mean wisdom. You can be very smart but also arrogant because you don't want to admit you possibly made a mistake. You can also be dumb as a rock and have a strong sense of intuition to distinguish right from wrong.
