CAVEMAN Cooking Wild Deer - WHOLE! | Catch, Clean, Cook in the FOREST

Ойын-сауық

We primitive spit roast an entire wild deer over an open fire at the small off grid cabin in the woods. Kevin's new channel will be found here at Modern Self Reliance: / @modernselfreliance
My Gear (Shop and Support): www.thewoodedbeardsman.com/shop/
We first butcher the deer and then carefully mount it over a set of sticks so it can be slow cooked for hours over the fire to make a delicious meal.
Spit roasting is an ancient method of preparing game for a tribe that consists of mounting a whole animal, or part of an animal over a stick, branch or, in our case, tree, in order to slow cook it over a long period of time.
Spit roast is like a primitive man's BBQ. The smoke and light heat will create a more tender meat as the heat breaks down the meat fibers over time. This primitive cooking method is very much like a slow cooker in our modern times since the outer layer prevents moisture from escaping. We did find this deer on the road as well, and wanted to make use of the whole animal rather than let it go to waste.

I'm drooling! That deer looks phenomenal! You should gather those apples on the property, make apple cider or vinegar and use it next time to baste that deer meat. I do the same when slow cooking on the bbq. The spit/spatchcock worked out great. Try the Patagonian or Argentine cross roasting. A meat is tied to "T" cross, staked to the ground, and angled toward the fire.

Spatchcock is one of my favorite ways to cook just about anything. It generally seems to cook more evenly. Kabobs are another favorite, especially with tenderloin. Also, one of my favorite scent/sound combination is fat dripping onto a fire. Thanks for the WOODOBO! I bought some and love it! I made a few videos to thank you guys for inspiring me to get back in the woods. I have binge watched a ton of your videos, as well as Zack & Greg and Chris Thorn... I found out about you from a Greg Ovens & Zach video, and I was inspired so much, I dug out my fire building and camping stuff and hit the woods ;) I haven’t eaten any groundhog yet, but, I had it as a kid and thought it was kinda like beef. 🤙🏻 I was curious about your spice, you guys really made it sound appealing; I was like, well, if it can make all the game you guys eat taste good, it will make anything I cook be good. I enjoyed your spice blend and created a Woodobo Barbacoa out of it. I hope you enjoy the vids I made for you guys... Thanks for getting me back in the woods and getting my mind in a better place and back to simpler things, getting back to nature is where it’s at... Respectfully... GSK ROCK ON! 🤘🏻

I know this comment probably won't be read but I laughed out loud when you asked if someone has spit roasted an animal this big 🤣. I'm South African and recently found your channel and started binge watching. We spit roast whole Kudu ( big arse buck) , lambs, pigs, and anything that moves 🤣. Love the channel, keep it up. Much love and be blessed 🙏

Thar deer got hit by a slow moving car, I had the misfortune of watching somebody in front of me hit a doe going 70 and the end result was.... very different to say the least. Sweet video though! I wanted to take the doe home that got hit in front on me but I had a jeep not a truck and my wife wouldn't let me put it in the back

Next time raise one side up more than the other and then put a catchpan on the lower side to collect the oil that drips off of it.
