"We painted these walls, we...made these toys." The toys part gets me, for the very first time in his absurdly long life, Dracula used his skills and knowledge to craft something...with love. With care. A little stuffed bear here, a wooden horse there. Not a machine for war, or a blade or stake- but something a little boy could play with. The most powerful being on the planet, stooped over his workbench for hours, crafting a beautiful little wooden horse for his boy. My heart.

A very good point, and I’m reminded about Trevor’s end speech to Death about the creature not making anything, not creating anything, only killing/eating and hiding… which was exactly what Dracula was doing, killing things and hiding away in his castle. It was only when reminded of what he had done in the past, and he compared it to what he was doing, did Dracula realize that he had fallen so far.

You can almost see it. HE can almost see it. The room bathed in moonlight, Dracula gets a little paint on his face and Lisa giggles at him, maybe he’s shocked for a moment but then he giggles too. The giggles subside and they share a beat, a single moment, a small but sure smile, and an unspoken “I love you” and then back to work. In pop culture it’s a scene we’ve seen a million times. Two people who love each other paint the baby’s room in content silence and we the audience know how much they love each other. He says it and you can almost see it, and it breaks your heart

Almost all my favorite moments in the series are in this one episode, all the best fights, and of course this. Sometimes I feel like a series/movie cops out on the final battle (the end to Kill Bill 2 didn't satisfy me), but this was so well written and acted and I liked it so much better than if Alucard has somehow just got the jump on Drac. You really feel the tragedy of both characters. I want to see Drac come back later on just so they can get kill him again if I get more acting like this

Agreed, most of us (myself included) were expecting an epic fight all the way to the end between sypha, simon and alucard vs dracula.... the classic "good vs evil", but at that last scene and the dialogues between father and son up to the point when they reach alucard's room, you realize that this story is not that simple. We have a grieving man who lost what he loved most, that which made him human and alive once more and all that sadness and anger towards the world was his way to say "please end my pain". Its all a tragedy on its own and a masterpiece in writing.

I think the saddest thing about this scene was that Dracula reverted back to his old habits on a smaller scale; he confined himself to one room instead of the overall castle he used to roam. This was probably the first time in years that he stepped foot in that room when the realization hit him; in all his fury, he forgot who is son really was... which was his son.

I love how Alucard still wasn’t able to beat Dracula in a fight and make it unbelievable. Even in a weakened state Dracula was still THE Vlad Dracula Tepes, the KING of the vampires and could have taken on anyone one on one and win by a wide margin. The only thing that was able to stop him were the human qualities that Lisa taught him. He was defeated by guilt, compassion, sentimentality, humility, and love. Had he’d truly thought of her as only a pet he wouldn’t have hesitated to finish off Alucard. Just like Hector said, he truly loved her. In turn he loved Alucard. His love made him the shell he became and drove him to madness. Lisa fulfilled her promise, Dracula taught her the knowledge to truly help people and in turn she taught him a thing or two about humans. Her gift of humanity, personified in Alucard, was the most precious gift he had ever received in his long reign. But that same humanity was what destroyed him. Humanity finally defeated Dracula.

@@AgustinRamirez-wl4mg I would've loved to see Camilla, executing her plan with near perfection, probably with a horde of demons and vampires, and probably some typical vampire weaknesses in her plan. Judging by how she had the bishop turn water holy to defeat some of Dracula's forces, this tells me she's smart enough to use her own kind's weakness as a weapon. However, despite all her maticulous planning, Dracula endures, probably barely scathed, and dismantles her army, makes short work of whatever vampire weakness/weapon/trump card she had, and lays waste to Camilla, reminding her of who he is. He's not just some cruel old man, he's the damn KING of the VAMPIRES.

What makes this somewhat cathartic is that Dracula knew what Alucard was about to do. He realized that if he was really ready to destroy the last living piece of Lisa's legacy, he would prefer death. And those words, "I must already be dead" are both his acknowledgement of the fact, and a way of telling Alucard that he's ready for it to end. He chose his end, and his son gave him his last wish.

I like how you can see the doubt begin before this. Dracula knows Alucard is right when he says “if you wanted to kill me you’d have done it by now” then he steps into this room and realizes...oh my god he’s right. I’m infinitely more powerful then him. Certainly more than Belmont and Sypha and yet they’re all still alive...oh my god I don’t want to kill them. I don’t want to kill my son...I don’t...want to kill anyone anymore. Lisa didn’t want me to kill anyone....I must already by dead.

Not just that; Dracula realized he was as much a danger to Alucard as he was to anybody else. From a father’s perspective, he had done the unthinkable in deliberately raising a fist with killing intent against his own child. It also harkens back to Alucard’s warning at the start of the series; no matter what Dracula says or does, it doesn’t change the fact that he unleashed his Army of the Night on Wallachia, killing innocents by the score. So he elects to do the one thing that would assure he would no longer be a danger to his own child or anyone else: end it.

If you can’t stand up for what is right you don’t have a say. But then again this is the church and back then ppl mindlessly believed everything the church said. The part where he realized that he was killing the last living part of Lisa and himself was heart wrenching. “Your greatest gift to me and I’m killing him” he realized he didn’t lose her completely and the fact that Adrian (Alucard) existence was proof of something greater and more powerful, he was Lisa but more. In this moment of clarity I feel like he finally realized Alucard as something more than an annoyance but his son. His own flesh and blood, half of himself and his beloved Lisa. He may have had a small part of his kind self return as he acted slightly fatherly. Its super sad we didn’t see more moments like this because there’s nothing better when a cold character has a warm, soft moment, especially with their child/children. Alucard is an ok char in Castlevania 3, but in SoTN, he shattered the entire game to oblivion, and he's not as opened as this Alucard. But hey, If you're interested in the game, do yourself a favor and buy the compilation on current-gen console or PC. It's never too late to play one of the most beloved franchise ever.

This scene is even sadder when you look into the early Castlevania lore, Dracula became the demonic king of vampires in the first place due to losing his first love while he was off fighting a war. He returned home to learn she had died, he rejected God, and in turn his humanity. He also caused the first Belmont hunter, who was also his close friend Leon Belmont, to curse his name. He created the Belmont hunter legacy. After years of fighting between the Belmonts and evil, the events of Castlevania 3/ Netflix series happens. Humanity created Dracula, and ruined him, and his son fought with his heart and soul to protect them. 😢

I see comments of Dracula being able to redeem himself or anything that would change his character. However, this ending fits the way his character arc should end. There could of been redemption, but he knows he doesn't deserve it. He knows it's his son Alucard who deserves to be the better of them both. Dracula presented here is a tragedy of man who lost his wife and lost everything only to realize at the end that all isn't lost. That the love he thought was gone couldn't have been more apparent with the existence of his son, the living proof of Lisa and Dracula's love, forgotten in his madness and grievance. Not until the very end. That all along the very thing he despised, was the driving force of his very own emotions, human one's to be exact.

Even though Dracula wants to be redeemed, he has two tragic flaws that will prevent it. These are explored in the IGA games plots. They were also similarly interpreted in the Lord's of Shadow's version of the series too. 1. His hatred of God and Humanity which has been his sole motivation Since his first love died. This will always repeat itself due to his immortality. His love is destined to reincarnate and die over and over again in every incarnation. This is a cruel curse he cannot overcome since it was his Hubris of hating God and Mankind that spurned him to gain that very same immortality. 2. The curse he placed himself is a the power of chaos, which is fueled by all his hate and loss. By gaining immortality, he absorbed into himself the very essence of a chaotic evil that draws from these worst of human emotions. As much power and immortality as it gives him, it also spurns his worst qualities making him lose sight of what matters to him and what little of his original humanity he has left. Prior to regaining some of his sanity in this scene, he was completely consumed by his own powers and bloodlust from the raw emotion until he was triggered by the sight of something that had his happiest memory, building a life around his wife and son. Alucard stabbed him in this moment, knowing what the nature is behind his father. As a result, these two things will constantly cause dracula to resurrect, love, weep, and hate again in repetition for all eternity. It is a hell of his own making in abandoning his humanity, and will always be robbed of what little he has left due to his own choices.

The way the lighting went from a blood red to a dim, silver moonlight illustrated the shift from battle to the death to that sorrowful realization. You really realize now that Dracula never really saw Alucard as his son until now. It was only minutes ago he said that the war on humanity endured in Lisa's name.

This is a great scene in that he actually loved Alucard as his son instead of just loving him because he reminds him of Lisa. Credit the voice acting and the writing. The fact that this moment is as believable as it is and as heart wrenching as it is speaks volumes to the talent of everyone behind this

The acting in this whole scene is just so heartbreaking. The moment Dracula starts to moaning what he is doing I felt the cry in my throat climbing up

The true tragedy of Dracula wasn’t just how his story here ended- alone, a broken old man who had lost his will to live- but also what he could have been, what he almost was. He could have turned his intellect towards helping humanity better itself, become more advanced and abandon superstition. But in the events that came to pass, the greed and fear of powerful men made him into a villain.

The first two seasons were truly a miracle, weren't they? It's rare to see something with such high quality in almost everything from the fight scenes and animation to the music and drama. What a pity that by the series finale it all fell apart and completely lost its luster.

This damn moment was so heartbreaking on so many levels. Season two was already miles better than the first, but to then have such a kick to the emotions here and at the very end...damn this was wonderful

I think this is the scene that made me really love Dracula as the tragic villain he was. When he finally came to terms that there was truly nothing left in him and just resigned himself to his fate, this scene just cut deep.

Everyone is talking about how emotional this scene is, and I'm just wondering why Alucard's room looks unchanged since his childhood... -- Wasn't he living there until recently?

Alucard probably hasn't been in there since he was a kid, and I suspect one of the servants cleans the room as I doubt Dracula would go in there.

Well, he did said he aged fast, so maybe they were about to change his room to a more grown up one when his mother was capture by the church, or maybe when he grew out of this bedroom he just moved to another one, like someone else already said, the castle is huge and must have lots of rooms

At some point before season 1 kicked off, I believe they were living outside of the castle itself. Remember that Drac comes home to find a place that is very much not Castlevania burnt to the ground. Likely something to do with living/walking the world as a mere mortal. In a lot of ways it contributes to the tragedy of it all. Because if they were still living in the castle, I somehow doubt that a bunch of medieval zealots intent on a pogrom would have made it past the castle's defenses to arrest Lisa in the first place. And I have little doubt that fact was tormenting Dracula the whole time as well.

This moment makes every hit in the fight before it hurt so much more, it’s no longer a cool fight between Alucard and dracula, it’s a father hurting his son
