Catholic Cooking May 2024 || Drinking With The Saints!
For our May cooking video we're in the kitchen trying out a very different type of Catholic cookbook. Our featured book this month is "Drinking With the Saints" by Michael P. Foley. We've been curious about this one for awhile; is it really as fun and entertaining as the reviewers say? We're going to find out today! Enjoy the Catholic cooking show - where (spoiler) things often don't go as planned- as we test out Catholic recipes and share all our culinary ups and downs. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my gosh, practically a collab of my two favorite catholic creators! I love listening to Mike's (and Alexandra's) podcast. Super cool to see the book made it here! Edit: after watching the full vid, I think Mike did say on his podcast he taste tested "most" of them 😂

Lol- good to know. If he had to skip one, the punch was the right one to skip!
I wonder if you used sparkling water instead of sparkling grape juice, the pineapple drink would taste better? I used to make lemonade by simmering sugar and water with the lemon zest, letting it cool, straining out the zest, then using the lemon-flavored syrup to sweeten the lemon juice and water. Puckery, but tasty, and no rind between your teeth. I've been busy baking for a bake sale this weekend. We are having our annual 4H/FFA lamb show, and our weavers' and spinners' guild is demonstrating spinning wool. I'm in charge of the bake sale, and I've made 6 batches of cookies so far. Don't ask me how much butter I've used! We use the proceeds from the bake sale for scholarships to help kids buy lambs to raise.

That is wonderful, Margaret! What a great cause. We' ll pray it is a tremendous success!
As usual...I am late to the party! Again! I puckered myself when you tasted the Von Trapp punch! You poor ladies! Thanks for your sacrifice! 😂 I always enjoy these fun cooking videos! God bless you! ❤😊

Our pleasure!
Ohmy! I wonder why the vontrapp recipes are busting. The ice cream does sound very good. I hope all's well with you all. My boss shared some moose sausage & I've been loving it in scrambled eggs. I'm currently flying back to my village from the big city after seeing the doctor. It's a beautiful day. Thank you for being here for us !

We would take moose sausage over the punch any day, Lena! We know from research that some of Maria's recipes are not really hers… but how many fake Von Trapp recipes can there be, right? It is disappointing. The VT family should publish a new recipe book with her real recipes in it… that would be wonderful!
What a fun video guys! Love watching you both💕

Thank you! We're so glad you enjoyed it :)
Never thought Maria's punchless punch would say Merry Christmas with sour expressions on your faces.😂

Lol- this might be some type of econo-punch Ebeneezer Scrooge might serve… or something...

I'm so glad you used this book. Like you, I've been curious about it but I don't drink. I think other members of my family would have fun with the recipes while I read the book. Lol.

A win win!
This was a fun video! We enjoy some cocktails, and my husband has found some great drinks in the book. He mentioned that the author does cover mocktails sometimes in his podcast. The von Trapp punch ... didn't look like much from the get-go. Apparently, there's a new edition of the book with color illustrations now. (We have the non-colorized version too.) Love your biggie cutting board and Kate's apron. 🙂

Lol- yes! The punch looked dubious from the starting gate. We will have to watch out for the color version; we would love to see all the artwork in color. Thanks for the heads up!
Great video! 🥂🍾 I'll definitely be getting the book. I'm not a big drinker either but I think it would be fun for get togethers. One thing about drink recipes I've learned is that they're designed to complement the alcohol. Without the alcohol, most of the time, you just get nasty tasting drink lol

Lol- yes… probably the first one we tried would have been better with real white wine. If you try any of the recipes, please let us know how they turn out. Cheers!
Great video! Cool aprons too.

Thanks!
Instead of Sparkling Grape Juice you could try plain sparkling water. It doesn't have any sugar or any flavors (unless you want a flavor) but you would get the fizz. You could even try cream soda or something fizzy with not a lot of flavor. It sounded good. Thanks for making the recipes.

I think Maria Von Trapp must have had some very strange tastes. 🤣

Lol- going by her published recipes, that is a fair statement!
