Cathay Dragon is finished! As a result of the Covid pandemic, Cathay Dragon ceased operations with immediate effect and 5300 Cathay staff in Hong Kong will be made redundant.
The Airbus A321neos ordered by Cathay Dragon will be taken by Cathay Pacific, while Cathay Pacific will not start using Boeing B777-9s until after 2025.
Routes served by Cathay Dragon will be split between Cathay Pacific and HK Express. It is expected that popular destinations served by the Airbus A330 to places like Beijing, Shanghai, Phuket, Penang and Kuala Lumpur will be transferred to Cathay Pacific, while off beat destinations like Hanoi, Da Nang and Siem Reap will be served by HK Express.
