At approx. 8:28 you see Truck #56 pull out with a load. At 9:02 you see #56 heading up the haul road on the right, and at 9:31 #56 appears on the upper bench where at 10:10 it dumps its load onto the bench below. From where the dozer pushes dirt over the edge for the shovel to load onto trucks...again. Must be practicing 🤔

Actually the mountain stays in size because the trucks dump the same material from above, 50m from where they are excovating it. Doesn't make sense to me.

So.. Truck 1 gets a load and drives off, truck 2 backs in and loads, meanwhile truck 1 goes to top of hill and dumps load over the edge so the dozer can push it over the hill to fill truck 2... So.. is this job security for robots? or some fancy way of making gravel?

The trucks are dumping at the top of the pile. The dozer is pushing it down the pile to be reloaded. When the human supervisor gets back on duty who will be blamed for this futile activity. The best video I have seen to promote the need for dumper drivers.

Myles Harding firstly only the trucks are autonomous and secondly this is a demonstration area and not real World. Automation is vastly more safe and productive as has been proven in mine sites around the World.

I do not understand what's going on . the truck goes around and pours out from above, after that the bulldozer pushes down and the excavator loads it into the truck again. and so in a circle?

The irony is that John Deere recently figured out how to load a truck autonomously. They applied it to their forage harvesters. Great call, putting Trimble GPS on the shovel. Fantastic machine

So the 6060 loads the dumptrucks which drive around up top and empty. The dozer pushes it over to the 6060. The 6060 puts it back on the dumptruck. Like that big loader toy from 1980.

Many of the commenters here are referring negatively to automation. Automation is inherently more efficient. To do something more efficiently makes the end result cheaper and helps improve our overall standard of living. This is how nature works, people. Adapt faster and be more efficient and survive. Failure means to die out, whether its in business or in nature. Automation is coming whether we like it or not, what we have to do as individuals is adapt and survive, not stick our heads in the sand and wish it all away. Lets control the game, not be victims of it.

Automation is not inherently more efficient. It is however more consistent and that is it's typical value. It can also be used to keep humans out of harm's way. As to taking jobs, that's debatable. Robots don't make themselves.

As aggravating as truck drivers can be to a dump dozer, I don't think I would want an automated truck anywhere near me. In a mine, you have constantly evolving and changing dump, road, and weather conditions. These trucks are relying on a lot of sensors. What happens when it rains and the sensors get covered in mud? What about a crack forming on the dump face or a soft spot developing? How would the truck react to being stuck? Would it spin itself down to the axle before it realizes it's stuck or stop when it first starts to sink? The problem with a lot of engineers is that they think the world works perfectly like on the computer screen, it never does. There are too many scenarios in which an automated haul truck would be a hindrance. No thank you, I'm good with our worst driver over that.

You can see one of the loaded trucks dumping at the top of the hill above the dozer at 10:00 and 12:50. I think this may be the test facility south of Tucson.

That big cat is digging through that ground like potting soil.

I see the same trucks dumping at the top of the hill above the bull dozer as I see loading at the bottom. Is this a big test site? Look for #24
