When Cate Blanchett was around 5, she wrote a mini essay-saved for years by her mother and unearthed serendipitously during a recent move-envisioning her possible future as an adult: “When I grow up, I would like to be a man. I would still love my family. But I could light a fire and go to work. And when I’m bored being a man, I think I’ll just be me.”
Blanchett, 53, is drawn to multi-shaded characters who don’t court our approval-an all-time favorite is Ibsen’s compulsive manipulator Hedda Gabler, whom she’s played onstage-but Lydia Tár, in all her self-destructive glory and compelling unlikability, is like no one else we’ve ever seen onscreen. “We’re all imperfect creatures. And sometimes we don’t want to look at the unthinking, unintentional, inexplicable, ambiguous sides of being female,” Blanchett says. “We are brave, we are noble, we are generous, we are collaborative. But we are also the dark side of that, because women are complex beings.”

This woman really was born to be an ‘actor’. And she is so much more. She is a legend! ❤️🔥👑
I love how she talks about the collaboration and conversation being what draws her to a project. Could listen to her talk about her craft for hours!
🤩 In only 3 minutes she managed to make better points than most people would in 1 hour.
At 53, she still have so much to give us

She is as fake, dishonest and artificial as everybody else in the industry.
Grace, intelligence, passion, hard work, a pure human being and unbelievable talented!
Cate is such a talent. Her insights, intuition and words always awe me.
Remember seeing her as Blanche on stage in A Streetcar Named Desire. Without a doubt one of the most powerful performances I have seen on stage.

Love these actors with an older perspective, they actually go into their craft. Reminds me of that one Sir Patrick Stewart interview where he actually talks about acting as opposed to whatever people do on talk shows now

Cate Blanchett has been my favorite actress since "Talented Mr. Ripley". She is a force to be reckoned with in the world of film.
She is so incredible! While I haven’t gott into some of her heavier works, Galadriel and Hela were definitely two of my favorite roles she took on. As a LOTR enthusiast, the gravitas she brought to the role of Galadriel, a character so large in the mythos of Middle Earth, in the short time she was on screen, was nothing short of the purest gift for any fan of the work. Unmatched and irreplaceable.
I would image it is an honor to be chosen for the title and cover of time and there is logically some marketing strategy involved. I was personally elated Cate was chosen. Not only for her talent in stage and screen but for the incredible person that she is. I wish her all the best in her work and her life.

Cate is extraordinary. So intelligent, so versatile and her acting seems so effortless. I've read that she has an INFJ personality. I wonder if this is true.

She's such a class act so articulate and mesmerizing with every move and every word she says. If she doesn't win the Oscar for her role in TAR unfortunately Oscars are actually rigged. Her performance was otherworldly and deserves much more attention.

Cate Blanchett’s picture on the cover sells Time magazine. They’ve been getting away designating a man of the year forever. Besides in this era of social media, this print magazine must stay relevant with its time honored tradition. Cate is making a lasting statement of what it means to be an actress who will be studied for years by those who enter into the profession. Now if she could only find the cure for cancer, I think that would really be worth noting. For me, I’ll just settle for her being on a magazine cover. She is a woman of our times and a damn great actress. I enjoy her performance in every movie of hers I have ever watched. I hope some day someone will put together a retrospective of her work. That would make me giddy with delight. No, I didn’t get to vote to name her woman of the year. That decision was made by some editors at Time. It’s their self appointed job and I ain’t mad with them for picking Cate.😊

Have they defined a woman? Seems a little arrogant to declare a woman of the year without first having defined a woman. I love Cate Blanchett. She can be the undefined person of the year or anything she wants really.
