The Snake Charmer puzzle has made its way onto a few American blooper specials as well. That's how I heard about this show. It was also before I knew that this show was actually based on a short-lived American version of the same name from the mid-80s.

This is the censored version 😢. What you don't see is the pink cane the guy is moving up and down. Thats why the crowd are laughing! Seek out the uncensored version!

Sean was one of the best players Catchphrase ever had.

This was the first episode of Catchphrase I ever watched. I didn't understand the joke then but I do now! Just to clarify, I wasn't born until 2000, but I did get a Catchphrase board game as a birthday present when I was quite young (about nine, I'd say), and that led me to watching some of the episodes on KZread.

Best episode ever! Sean was a amazing contestant and the Snake Charmer was hilarious.

SNAKE CHARMER IS A FUNNY CATCHPHRASE 😆 🤣 😂

He did so well, but I did feel sorry for Marita, must have been a bit upsetting being so far behind... but it's the way it goes unfortunately

I've seen this episode loads of times on Challenge over the years and I am sure everyone would agree that the most memorable moment is right at the end of the credits, just before the "an ACTION TIME production for CARLTON" end card appears, when we see the screen start to show something before getting cut off by the end of the programme. I had always assumed that this was just some error left in the original programme and no one could be bothered to correct it at the time. For some reason, Challenge now have a new transfer of this episode and although Mr Chips' cane is still not animated (suggesting that this edit was made on the original programme rather than by Flextech, Virgin or Sky in recent years) the bit at the end is now revealed to be a contestant call that has always been edited out on the version that Challenge have shown up until now. So, if you see this episode of Challenge in the future, stay to the end to see a Ted Robbins voiced contestant call with the screen in the studio being used to show the address to write to. Amazing scenes. That is the only change I noticed, apart from the fact that at the time of writing the new transfer does not have AD.

it was edited by challenge, you can clearly see the screen has been overlayed with edited version, if you play the original and edited versions together you can see the sqares and animation completely different

I saw the original when I was only 7 I didn't get the joke until a few years ago...still can't help but giggle...

The main difference seems to be that the cane is kept stationary. Obviously some censor felt the need to tone it down.

Given the screens were not real, it would have been harder to disguise the editing of the Snake Charmer animation. I remember watching a Stephen Mulhern episode and the Sping Chicken animation was covered up obviously.

Sean reminds me of Banksie from Grange Hill

Roy must have won the super catchphrase in the new show hosted by the guy from britians got more talent. Even though two things. 1, it was in 1995, and catchphrase new episodes was in 2016. Second, there has only been 1, yes, 1 winner to get 50,000 pound. Or maybe he just won the lottery... and was never told.
